5 People in a hotel room

You don't have to stay onsite you know, they will still let you into the parks if you stay offsite.

We only have 2 kids, and we never stay onsite. Can't stand the thought of all 4 of us cooped up in one room, sleeping in double beds. No way. No how.

We rent 2 bdrm condos offsite. For the price you are paying to be at POR you could easily rent a 2 or 3bdrm condo or townhouse at Windsor Hills or somewhere similar AND still have money leftover to pay for the rental car you would need, and daily parking fee at the parks. You would have a full kitchen so you wouldn't have to get 5 people ready in one tiny hotel room, and trudge to a foodcourt for breakfast. You could enjoy your coffee in your pyjamas and have a regular breakfast. You could enjoy keeping water bottles and juiceboxes cold so you could take them to the parks in your backpack, and it would chill the adult beverages nicely if you wanted to have a drink on the screened in balcony after the kids have been tucked in to their own beds, in their own rooms. You wouldn't have to sit on the bed in the dark waiting for the kids to fall asleep. You might also enjoy being able to throw in a load of clothes in your in room washer/dryer. It is very nice not having to bring dirty clothes home and start doing laundry immediately.

I have been getting quotes from owners for our Dec trip. I have quotes as low as $69 per day for a 3bdrm unit.

Don't let anybody try to brainwash you into believing that you HAVE to stay onsite to be "fully immersed in the magic 24/7". Magic is what you make it. I always took the philosophy that since I never stayed onsite, I don't know what I'm missing! (although I have a pretty good idea I that there would be no magic to be found, if my family was sleep deprived from having to sleep in the same room together for a week or more. )

We have been to Orlando 3 times, and are planning our fourth trip. I can categorically guarantee you that as long as our children are travelling with us, we will be in larger accomodations offsite. Add the fact that we (GASP) go to Universal, Islands of Adventure, and SeaWorld (your boys would LOVE Islands of Adventure!) as well and that just makes staying offsite a much better option.

I agree wholeheartedly

I have three children and couldn't imaging between packed like Sardines in a tiny disney room/suite, I don't call that Disney magic. We don't rent a villa but we stay in nice suite hotels. Our second trip we priced up an on-site stay, from the UK it would have cost us $2000 more!!!!! They want to charge us more for less space:rotfl2:, We love suites, two bedrooms (or at least a seperate bedroom), and a kitchen area, two tv's with cable, free internet access. Free breakfasts at the places we have stayed, nice pool and lots and lots of space. My DH can watch tv in one room while the kids sleep/watch tv in another. We have a fridge, cooker and microwave so we buy food in and cook for overselves if we don't feel like eating out.

I couldn't imagine having a relaxing holiday being packed into the same room with my kids. My DH and I need our own space, and so do our children. I can do without EMH (we avoid the EMH park that day anyways). I cant think of any more perks that could entice me. Thinking about all the extra money I save by staying off-site and how many more souveniers I can buy makes my decision easier too.

We stay for two weeks, so that may make a difference, I could probably cope in a Disney room for a couple of days. Disney is not all we visit Orlando for, we do other things too, KSC, Universal, Gatorland etc. so being off-site makes more sense for our touring plans too.

I was wondering, my husband and I are taking our 3 boys, ages 10, 7and 4 to WDW on Spring Break in April. We currently have a room reserved at POR since that was where we could get 5 of us in one room. I am wondering everyone's opinion about booking a room at the value resorts and telling them we have only 2 children. I'm kind of disappointed with needing 2 rooms at the value resorts or a family suite (which is more money than POR) with a family of 5 the value resorts are a much better find on our budget. Our youngest would sleep inbetween my husband and myself anyway. I know it's not honest but was just wondering what everyone's thoughts were, I'm sure people do it all the time.

If you lie to Disney about the number of people in your room, you are putting your family at risk. Which child would you not want the firefighters to know about? I know a fire more than likely won't happen, but what if it did?

Also, you would not be able to take advantage of the dining plan, Magical Express, or the Extra Magic Hours. You must be listed on the resevation to use ME, and every family member must show a room key in order to get in for EMH. Even the little ones.

I honestly think Disney has lots of options for families larger than 4. As far as them being affordable, what is affordable for you may not be affordable to me. And sense when did Disney have to make it affordable anyway? A trip to DisneyWorld is not a right, and the Disney corporation is not run as a charity. They are in it to make money.

I know this is coming across harsh, but it always boggles my mind when people make excuses for breaking rules. Disney is not cheap. Most of us have to save for quite a while to take our trips there. But you are not owed a price break because you decided to have a larger family.

Yeah..it does sound harsh. I don't think she was looking for a discount because she has a larger family and asking for input. It does appear to me she hasn't visited before. She was commenting as to how her options are more limited because she has a larger family. You could have simply answered her question. Likely she has her own religious counsel should she seek advise regarding rule breaking.

I did answer her question. She asked what everyone's thought were on her putting 5 people in a room meant for 4. The OP alredy knew it was wrong. I'm not going to tell her it is ok when it is not.

The OP has all of 10 posts... Your response wasn't much of a welcome. Perhaps they aren't as familiar with the "rules" as you happen to be. In any case, you certainly made your position perfectly clear.

Before we had our 4th child we stayed at Port Orleans (when it was Dixie Landings). They have a limited number rooms with the trundle bed that allow 5 to a room. We did this when our three daughters were little .Two years in a row. It worked out well for us.

We have 4 kids now so we get two rooms with the connecting door.

For one thing POR AB is only 2 stories tall. When they were built they were built to hold 5 persons in each room. Thus they meet the fire codes.

But I thought the CBR rooms were the largest of the mods?? Also, isnt CBR only 2 stories...at least I thought my building only had 2 floors. Just seems odd to me...especially with all rooms exiting to the outdoors.

....I'm just saying that in going to Disney for 17 years with a family of 5..this has been our experience. In that regard, I can't help but sympathize with the OP frustration with the limited number of accomodations on a value level(in the OP's case) or even those available in a moderate level. Again, I don't think that's an accident on Disney's part. They've been at this a while, and I'm fairly certain they know what they're doing, and how to fill those Deluxe room.

Exactly. This is the point I was trying to get at, but obviously didnt do a very good job of it.

My thoughts-it's the wrong thing to do and saying people must do it all the time is an attempt to rationalize what you know is wrong.

Keep the POR reservation.

We are also a family of 5 and and stay in a room that accomodates 5 people or get connecting rooms. Yes-it's more expensive but that's what we have to do if we want to stay onsite.

We had connecting rooms for our last trip and it ended up being a great choice to have 2 bathrooms and tvs and it let us spread out a lot more.

we ended up getting adjoining rooms at POR. At the end of the day, the space will be greatly appreciated by all.

I completely agree. As a family of 5, its very hard to find a place to day that isn't low end of the line. We all would like a little bit of luxury wherever we can find it.

Again, the OP stated that she knew 5 in a value was against the rules. To me her post read as she was looking for validation in breaking those rules. I'm not going to say it is ok when it is not. If that makes me unwelcoming, then that is unfortunate.

That's true, but you haven't exited the building until you have gone down the stairs and away from the building - unless you plan to drop over the side of the railing. If the building is on fire and you are still just outside the room, you are still in danger of getting burned and inhaling the smoke from the fire.

Remember your fire drills from elementary school? You weren't safe until you went out on the playground far away from the building.

She didn't ask for your okay. She asked about the prices. Give a newbie a break.:grouphug: :)

Actually, she asked this:
I was wondering, my husband and I are taking our 3 boys, ages 10, 7and 4 to WDW on Spring Break in April. So the OP did ask for others' okay or thoughts on breaking the rules.

Yes, CBR also has two floors but when CBR was built the buildings were most likely built to specs for 4 persons per room. When the POR AB buildings were built they were built to specs for 5 persons per room.
(I mentioned the two floors because I was trying to explain one of the obvious differences between the AB buildings and the Mansion buildings at POR.)

Each of the POR AB buildings might have less rooms per building or they may have fire walls spaced closer together or they may have wider doorways or wider stairwells or wider walkways than the buildings at CBR.

As Canadian Guy said there are lots of variables involved.

I completely agree. As a family of 5, its very hard to find a place to day that isn't low end of the line. We all would like a little bit of luxury wherever we can find it.

As a family of only 3 (so far) I can even feel your pain. I can only imagine how the large families feel, having such limited and pricey options. :grouphug:
