5 months in the Most Magical Place on Earth...my College Program TR

I don't know how I got so behind but just finished reading your last two updates and have to say the job descriptions for CRT were very interesting. I bet you did a little happy dance every time you got to be the Breezeway Greeter! :thumbsup2 I would've! And you got paid besides! :rotfl:

Great mini trip report from when your Mom came too! Did you enjoy the dining plan? We tried it for the first time last January (2011) and I have to say I don't remember EVER being hungry! Of course, I could've passed up one or two desserts..................nah! :lmao:

One other comment, the picture of Flynn Ryder that you posted is the same one my grandkids met at the Rapunzel Meet N' Greet. He spent a long time talking with my two grandsons (who had just been to the Pirate League) and doing a little sword fighting with them. They thought he was pretty cool!

Never pass on the desserts!!! :rotfl: There are no calories in Disney right?

awww their interaction with Flynn sounds awesome! So magical :goodvibes

One of the items that was high up on my Disney "to-do" list was to finish the infamous kitchen sink. You know, the GIANT sundae with eight scoops of ice cream, every topping in the house and an entire can of whipped cream :scared1:

I LOVE ice cream so I couldn't wait to try this!

A bunch of us from CRT had the same day off so we (and honorary CRT-lovey, Lisa) decided to conquer the kitchen sink!

A few weeks before this, I was scheduled to go to a "Welcome to the CP" event for Magic Kingdom CPs. I had already been working for about a month so I thought it was weird that I was just getting scheduled for this now. Plus, nobody else from CRT was scheduled with me :confused3

The event was held in the Diamond Horseshoe. Since it is a seasonal location, it was closed to the public at this time and so I guess they use it for cast events. Once I found my way there (I am not a fan of the adventureland/liberty square section of the utilidors...definitely not as fun and "pretty" as Fantasyland HAHA) I went into the Diamond Horseshoe and took a seat. The class ended up being super fun....we played Disney Scene-It (seriously...I was getting PAID to do all of this!!!) and watched some videos about current CMs who started on the CP. My team won Disney Scene-It and we all got 2 free movie tickets for the AMC at DTD!

Now, I haven't mentioned this before but I totally love Justin Bieber :rotfl: Judge me all you want! So when his movie came out, I knew I HAD to see it. I finally convinced Annie and Sam to come with me (I think having free tickets is what sealed the deal for them)

So...on the day that we all had off, I met up with Sam and Annie in the morning and we headed to DTD to catch an early showing of "Never Say Never". I loved it. As for Annie and Sam...let's just say that they are now "beliebers" :rotfl2:

(Annie and Sam at the movie)

After we dried our teary eyes (seriously, we all cried multiple times during that movie!) we hopped on the bus and headed to Hollywood Studios.

Lisa, the coffee bean, met up with us and so did Abby and Brent. We did a few rides and then decided to head on over to Beaches and Cream. But first we took a couple of group pictures...

We had plans to see Fantasmic that night but finishing the kitchen sink took us a lot longer than we thought it would :rotfl: We all waddled back to HS and then headed back home to just SIT for the rest of the night.

Looks like a fun day:goodvibes That is a boatload of ice cream!! We have never tried it, but it looks so delicious...maybe one day:thumbsup2 Did you get a discount on that? I was wondering if you get a discount on food everywhwere or not.

Reading this trip report totally makes me want to go back and do college again just for the experience, but um....11 years post graduation...um, no. :)

I love the look of the kitchen sink...but I wouldn't like most of the icecream flavors...I'm most a vanilla kind of girl...kind of defeats the kitchen sink idea. :lmao:

I can't believe you guys finished The Kitchen Sink! I don't think I have ever seen anyone do that before; I will have to try next time we go now that I know it's possible.

Congrats on finishing the Kitchen Sink:worship:
My DS (11) and DD (14) want to try to finish it when we are there in June.
Any strategies?? Should we wait a certain time after we eat, between lunch and dinner or later in the day after dinner???
Can you substitute the ice cream flavors? I think I remember that one is coffee. My son has watched the making of the Kitchen Sink on Youtube and is really wanting to try it.
Also, I'll have to let my DD know about you going to see Justin's movie and being a Belieber!!
We saw him in concert 3 times on his 2010 tour:cool1:
I really enjoy your TR and all the neat info you are posting.
Thanks:)
Amy

Looks like you all had a fantastic time eating all that ice cream!! How fun!! We've done the kitchen sink once and I was most surprised that there were full size candy bars in there!:lovestruc

Oh wow, this is so awesome to see! I'm doing the Fall 2012 program and am checking in on August 20. I'm super nervous.

A quick question: are most people on the CP in the 18-21 age group, or are their a good handful of people in their mid to late 20's too? I'm a non traditional age student but still in my 20's, and I worry about being totally out of place and not being able to make any friends!

You wil definitely have to try :) At table-service locations like Beaches and Cream, we got a 20% discount but then the 18% gratuity was automatically added :rotfl: But it was still nice because we would have left that tip anyways! We did get a discount at some quick service locations but not all. Also, a lot of off-property locations would give a discount so I would always ask!

hahaha well hopefully you can re-live a little bit through the TR :thumbsup2

:rotfl: Honestly, (this is kind of gross haha) I don't remember tasting the different flavors! It all kind of mixed together

I was just wondering if you took any classes and if so which ones? Also did you like those classes? :goodvibes

I did! I took "Advanced Hospitality Management" and "Exploring Guest Service at the Walt Disney World Resort"...I would not recommend the hospitality management course only because the instructor was not great. I didn't learn anything in that class and unfortunately found it to be a big waste of time (and I LOVE school haha) The guest service class, however, was AWESOME and I would highly recommend it!

We are champions! hahaha yes, you will have to do it! It was super fun :)

First, I am SO jealous that you saw him in concert 3 times!! My cousins went when he was in Honolulu and it looked like it was a really good show!

As far as the kitchen sink goes....we did it after lunch and sort of in place of dinner haha. I would say eat an early lunch, then do it a few hours later. That way, you will have enough time to let the fullness pass and then eat a (small) dinner that night :thumbsup2
Really enjoying your report!

Thanks :goodvibes
Joining in. Going back to read now!

:welcome:

yea, it was full of all sorts of surprises! :rotfl: I was most surprised about some sour, gummy piece!

First of all, I am SO excited for you! (and totally jealous). You will have the best time! What role are you doing?

I would say that yes, a majority of the CP participants are in the 18-21 range but you definitely wont be the only "older" one. One of my fellow CRT CP-ers was in her 50s!

Thanks for the kick in the butt! :rotfl: I've been meaning to update for a while but time has been slipping away from me!

Is your Mom home yet? We fly down tomorrow, but going to Universal. I think, if I remember right, we just miss each other.

This is such a great way for others to decide if the CP is right for them. Thank you for your WONDERFUL sharing & insight :goodvibes

While on the CP, I took two of the offered classes...Advanced Studies in Hospitality Management and Exploring Guest Service as the Walt Disney World Resort. {more on these later!}

When attending class, you can either wear business attire or a costume. You will usually find a majority of the class in professional attire because most CPs do not want to spend any more time in their costume than they already do :rotfl: And while the latter is true for myself and Lisa....that isn't to say that there weren't OTHER costumes that we wouldn't want to wear...

So one day we headed to the MK costuming building and tried on a bunch of our favorites.

That last one is a little frightening :rotfl:

We decided that the BBB was our favorite costume so we checked one out each and went home to have a photo shoot of course!

And in case you were wondering...this is what the BBB skirt looks like when converted to a dress...

That is too fun that you can check out other costumes! Is the green one from the Haunted Mansion?
