5 Girls and a Boys Not So Scary Halloween PTR ~ 10/10 TR link

Hi everyone! Please pardon my interruption from DIS-ing lately. My laptop crapped out and I just got it back. Lots of catching up to do and I'll post our last movie night very soon once I get my pictures loaded up.....

Seriously, how long of a flight is it you think from TX to your house LOL!!! I want to come over to a movie night LOL!!!! Lady and the Tramp I bought that for a very special 5 year old and I hope to borrow it from her soon so I can rewatch it that and Tangled LOL I can't believe I haven't seen it yet!!

YAY for going to see POTC 4 I really want to go see it but we'll have to wait and see what the weekend brings LOL!!! Maybe I will take an afternoon and go see it in Disney when I'm down there in June!!!!

:rotfl: Anytime Jen! I hope you've gotten the chance to see those movies -- you'll love Tangled!

Woo hoo, your June trip is almost here! We enjoyed Pirates -- anything with Jack Sparrow in it is fabulous -- but I'm not a Penelope Cruz fan so that kinda took away from it for me. But Jack is still the man! pirate:

Yay for watching Lady and the Tramp!! :yay: I watched it yesterday and loved it! I was hoping to cook some spaghetti meatballs but did not end up doing so :rolleyes1

The looking for bones activity looks like fun - something my competitive side would have enjoyed doing!

I forgot to say that when I revealed the evening to the kids, I'd set up my computer on a youtube clip for Belle Notte to play. :teeth: It made all the kids laugh and we had a great time.

You should have seen Demetri racing around to find the bones while Ariana was much more methodical. It was fun!

Another great movie night! I love Lady & the tramp and used to watch it every day when I was little! Your activities were so cute too! I had wanted to do a L&T night before our trip but I was told we didn't own the movie.. I later found out that my mom was just hoarding them because she didn't want me taking ALL of the Disney movies :rotfl: Maybe before our Disneyland Half Marathon trip...

Too funny, your Mom was hoarding the movies! :rotfl: I love planning these movie nights but have to admit I'm enjoying the more low key ones. Saving energy for the once in a while "all-out" one! :thumbsup2

I'm loving the movie nights! You are both so creative and I'm getting such great ideas for when we start ours!:thumbsup2

Tracy--Great choice on Lady and the Tramp!! It's one of my all-time favorite movies!! It looks like it was a fun night.:goodvibes

Can't wait to hear all about your movie nights Angie! I thought of you often planning out our Lady and the Tramp one... :teeth:

great movie nights by both :thumbsup2

where did you find that perfect tablecoth for the Lady and tramp night night Tracy...and I have some Ariel fans in my house too...shell pasta is the perfect meal :goodvibes

I was at Party Packagers looking for clearance items for movie night inspiration and found that table cloth - it was plastic and meant for picnic tables so it was the perfect size for our dining room table. I bought it (that and the route 66 signs at the same time) and tucked it away knowing we could use it for Lady & the Tramp night. Besides the wine bottles, I had everything on hand for that night. :thumbsup2

I'm still loving the movie nights! It's great to have double the fun to read about in this PTR! :thumbsup2

Our schedules are so crazy, I love having these movie nights. :lovestruc

We watched Secretariat and I thought it was good, we had never seen it before.

We only have 125 days till our trip now, I can't wait to get down to 99!!!

I haven't seen Secretariat either, we'll have to see that! Wow, single digits are coming up soooo soon! :woohoo:

Fantastic movie nights!! We are starting ours back up in June!! I am not sure if we will do one every other week or once a month... I'd prefer one every other week! :lmao:

I made that same jello dessert. It took FOREVER to set, and then the fish got gross. But it looked pretty! :rotfl:

Yay for your movie nights! :thumbsup2 Do them as often as it works for you. I came close to postponing our movie night last week when what I'd downloaded was on my dead laptop, but we made it work and it was one of my favorites. :goodvibes

We had fried chicken and rice for dinner and for dessert we had frogs (made from apples) frog eggs (grapes) and green jello (forgot to get a picture )

Love your Princess and the Frog night!!! The frogs are adorable and I love your masks and table setting!! The game was awesome too... I just may have to borrow everything you have for when we do that movie.... :rolleyes1

Loving your movie nights, they are all great and you are wonderful moms for putting forth the effort every week :worship: Fridays are generally family movie night in our house and while it is often a Disney movie its pretty much limited to watching the movie and eating popcorn :) Maybe once our trip gets closer I'll be inspired to add in the dinner and activity themes...I know where to go to get ideas!

Hey thanks! We've had a lot of fun with these movie nights. The movie night thread inspires me all the time - people are soo creative!

You are smart to wait till you get closer to your trip to add themes cause I think my kids expect it now :confused3

:rotfl: Demetri loves the crafts and activities part of our nights too. Ariana loves the movie part the best!

Another fantastic night. You are all so creative.

I'm totally stealing those Princess and the Frog ideas!!

Natalie - How did you make the frog eyes? Those are adorable... Zach would love a froggie snack. :goodvibes

Last week's movie night was, for the most part, planned out when my laptop died. I'd download character pictures and were going to hang them on our fireplace as part of our decorations and setting. So when it became evident I wasn't going to get it back in time, I considered putting it off for a week but in the end, decided to just go with everything else we had. I'm so glad we did, it was a great night!

Our choice? Aristocats!

With the Parisan theme, I'd debated what on Earth I was going to serve that my kids would like and relunctantly ruled out french onion soup because only Alex and I would eat it. Darn, I LOVE french onion soup!

Then I realized, I could have whatever I wanted.... and just use the french names! :rotfl: Then it became fun just deciding what to do.

Our setup was very simple. White linen tablecloth, an Eiffel Tower centrepiece......

2011_05240002.jpg

Our crafts were fun and inspired by the movie of course. Toulouse is an artist, so I found these great simple frames that you slide your artwork into for proud display. I also found these awesome Crayola markers that look like paintbrushes so the kids could do their very own paintings!

2011_05240003.jpg

I also found a really cute make your own suncatcher kit that was three kittens who just happened to be the right colours. :thumbsup2

Dinner was:
Soup du jour - mushroom soup
Poulet Pané aux champignons sautés et poivre vert - breaded chicken with sauteed mushrooms and green pepper
Servi sur une crêpe - served on a crepe!

2011_05240005.jpg

Delicious!!!

The suncatcher was going to be done in stages so we started with that first. It was a metal frame that you put different coloured tiny beads into and then put in the oven for about 20 minutes or so. Let me tell you, this was pretty detailed work that took longer than I thought it would... but the kids were very patient and intrigued with how it would look when done.

2011_05240008.jpg

That set up and in the oven for the first stage, the kids did their drawings and chose which one they wanted to display.

2011_05240010.jpg

Ariana drew Cinderella's royal carriage, while Demetri went with the movie cassette we had on the table.....

2011_05240011.jpg

Ariana then decided she wanted to draw her favorite Princess...

2011_05240012.jpg

... and that's what she decided to put in her frame. I LOVE how these turned out and they are staying on our fireplace permanently. :lovestruc

2011_05240013.jpg

A quick check on our suncatcher in the oven....

2011_05240014.jpg

... and it was time to move to the living room with our Eiffel Tower to have movie snackies of chips and a vegetable tray with FRENCH onion dip. ;)

2011_05240016.jpg

By the time we got threw the previews and setup for the movie, our suncatcher was done and cooled down.....

2011_05240021.jpg

Isn't it cute??

Time for the movie to start.... hey wait, something isn't right here ??

2011_05240017.jpg

Ah yes, of course. That's better..... ;)

2011_05240018.jpg

We love this movie and I just love singing along to Scales and Arpeggios and Thomas O'Malley Cat. And of course, the best of the movie, Ev'rybody Wants to be a Cat!

I'd originally wanted to try having something in our menu that was "Creme de la Creme a la Edgar" but I decided to opt out of that one. :confused3

In putting this night together I also read that an Aristocats II, meant to be straight to video, was in the plans for a release in 2007 but the project was scrapped when Pixar was purchased. Anyone know what the storyline was going to be?

Anyhoo, after Edgar was shipped off to Timbuktu, it was time to take another segment of links off!

Another week closer!!

Great Update!!! Eryka loves Marie so much... ha funny I just realized that Marie is Eryka's Middle name :rotfl2:

Eek at your laptop dying - sounds like you had a great time anyway!

I still have not seen Aristocats but am hoping to rectify that this week. Love the Eiffel Tower centre piece and the suncatcher!

Marie has always been a favorite of ours too  Ariana has a Marie stuffie but I couldn't find it. She has some of my favorite lines from the movie --- "Ladies don't start fights, but they can finish them!"

I was so lost without my laptop! Again I was going to do face painting because 'everybody wants to be a cat' ;) of course, but ran out of time. Back in the idea file!

Last night was another movie night for us and I chose a family favorite.

the-incredibles-poster-6a6ca.jpg

The Incredibles!

My favorite character is one that doesn't have a whole lot of scenes in the movie -- Kari the babysitter. Oh my gosh does she make me laugh in the small little scenes she is in, and the Jack-Jack short after the movie? Hilarious! :lmao:

Anyways, our setup for the evening was all about secret codes, super heroes, and thwarting evil plans -- muhwa-ha-ha!

2011_05310009.jpg

Red, yellow and black were the colours of the evening and printouts adorned the fireplace.

2011_05310006.jpg

Our centrepiece was simple, the Incredibles logo on black posterboard with a few toys.

2011_05310008.jpg

Our games for after dinner were ready to go... make your own Super masks and a Save the Supers from Syndrome code game I created -- but more on that later. :thumbsup2

2011_05310007.jpg

Our printouts were of the Incredibles, Syndrome and Batman type mini posters scattered here and there saying "Pow!" and "Bam!" and "Clank!"

2011_05310003.jpg

Hold on! Where did these guys come from?!

2011_05310004.jpg

:rotfl2: It was too cute not to use!

Our sign welcomed the kids to the NSA (National Supers Agency) and with more Batman signs, let them know what we were having for dinner.

2011_05310001.jpg

2011_05310002.jpg

We had Incredible Pot Roast, Syndrome's Super Yummy Potatoes, Edna's Vegetable Medley and Frozone's Ice Cream Smoothies

2011_05310012.jpg

Everything was a smashing success (I tried a new receipe for the pot roast in our slow cooker and it was DELICIOUS!) and Ariana shocked me by eating some broccoli and cauliflower from Edna's vegetable tray. She'd discovered this past weekend that she liked celery -- she'd refused to try it before now -- so I put the veggie tray out thinking she'd eat the carrots and celery, Alex would take care of the bell peppers and tomatoes and Demetri would tackle the cauliflower and broccoli. Well darned if she didn't just stun me by trying those new things! :faint: :yay:

During dinner we were quizzing Ariana on what the super powers were of the different characters and Demetri said if he could chose his powers, he'd want to run fast like Dash.

After dinner we cleared some space for our games and activities. While I was cutting out their masks, the kids did some activity sheets I'd downloaded. Using more black posterboard with red and yellow ribbon, the kids had their masks.....

2011_05310015.jpg

.... and were ready for our game.

MirageCodeGame_Page_1.jpg

I had fun making this! Ariana rocks at these kinds of code games and she was outside of her comfort zone working together with Demetri on this. Ariana can speak but she doesn't articulate very well, and to quote a friend of mine, she isn't very conversational. ;) But for this game, she was forced to communicate with Demetri as they were telling one another what letters the numbers stood for, and to annunciate so he could understand what she was saying. She was motivated, so she did it.

MirageCodeGame_Page_2.jpg

Each clue solved led them to a hidden super and the next clue.

2011_05310020.jpg

2011_05310014.jpg

2011_05310013.jpg

Frozone was the last guy saved and he announced it was time to watch the movie. So with a cheer, we headed to the living room and got the movie ready while I fixed dessert. A last minute change had us snacking on ice cream while we watched....

2011_05310024.jpg

2011_05310026.jpg

We love, love, LOVE this movie! It's one of the DVDs that is usually in my van DVD player and just continuously plays each time we drive anywhere - we never get bored of it. It'd been taken out a while ago though and so we hadn't seen it for a bit. Perfect for movie night!

After dinner, it was time to take another segment of links down....

2011_05310027.jpg

Another week closer!!

We got a great laugh out of that Increditoys picture  The game was a bit of work to put together, but worth seeing the fun they were having and working together to do it. :goodvibes I hope you get to see the movie soon -- you'll enjoy it!
