5 days! No kids! Where would you go?

Don't do Disney (gasp, I know).
You will find yourself missing the kids too much when you see all the other kids having fun. Happened to us :(
Do the cruise!

Now see we were the opposite. My DH and I went to WDW for 3 days and then on a Disney cruise for 4 days. I LOVED being at Disney without the kids. Didn't miss them at all, but I also knew they were having just as much fun without us, and they were staying with an Aunt that went un checked when it came to spoiling them. lol People would ask us how we got so lucky to come without our kids. lol It was a blast, but then again we are die hard Disney junkies.

We'd go to an all-inclusive resort. There are so many in Mexico to pick from (riviera maya...not cancun). You can be as active or relaxed as you like. The area has tons to do off property. If you aren't "beach people", you may like Secret Silver Sands. It prices a little cheaper than some, because it is not on the best beach!

We'll be off to Jamaica (Secrets Wild Orchid) in 4 weeks to celebrate our 20th! I can't wait!!!!

Have fun....whatever you do!!!

My husband and I just got back from a 5 day cruise. I was in the same boat as you looking for something we could do that was affordable. The cruise was much less expensive for us then most other options. My husband had never been on a cruise so he was reluctant. We had a great time. All the things I worried about i.e. not enough to do, eating with strangers, being stuck on the boat etc ending up being the best part. We had wonderful table mates who were a joy to talk to. There were tons of activities but honestly we enjoyed just relaxing. It was so nice to have everything taken care of for you. We got to enjoy just hanging out with each other talking. I highly recommend!!!!!

I also vote for a cruise. There is no way you can every be bored. On board, there is always something to do; casino, pool, planned activities, etc. Also, every port you can explore the town or sign up for an excursion. I'd check cruises from somewhere in Florida going to the Caribbean. My parent always cruise in Feb. and it's always nice and hot wherever they go.

My vote is for an all inclusive- either Riviera Maya or Punta Cana. You won't have to do a thing except decide which pretty drink to try! And an adults only is even better, we've found- it has spoiled us!

All-inclusive is the way to go. It doesn't have to be relaxing. There are plenty of excursions you could do and nighttime entertainment at the resort.

Sometimes the excursions can add up so we hired a driver when we went to Jamaica and did 3 excursions plus saw all the sights for a fraction of the cost if we had booked them separately.

Tripadvisor is a great place to find out about excursions, resorts, etc.

Provided you have low or no cost transportation to Florida, you can easily do a 3-5 night for under your budget. I wouldn't pay anywhere near $2000 for a short cruise, you can do it for half that, depending on cabin category. If you wanted to spend that much, you could do a Disney Cruise to the Bahamas and Castaway Cay.

Have fun whatever you decide.

5 days? No kids? SOOOOO jealous!!!!

Hubby and I went to New Orleans for 5 days once and it was under 2k from MI, including travel. We had a GREAT time sightseeing, eating, drinking, eating again, etc. ;)

We have talked about doing Disney w/o the kids but they would NOT be happy with us and I would suffer from MAJOR Mommy guilt the entire time. Maybe we will have to try Universal without them instead. ;)

New Orleans or Chicago. Either place is nice for a 3/4 day visit.
I vote N' Alens! Chicago would be VERY cold and windy.
Lots to see and do in New Orleans. Look for direct flights from Cincinnati or maybe Indianapolis. Remember that anything can get bad, weather wise, in February so allow time for delays. Cheap flights would probably be Las Vegas on a charter from either detroit, Chicago or maybe Columbus. Look at Apple Tours online for charter to a beach destination. Oh, and your husband needs to learn to slow down just a little. Schedule some 'time in the room', ya know!?

I would do a cruise. I dont think you would get bored with that. They have excursions you can do when you dock, and plenty to do on the boat:thumbsup2

My 1st vote would be for Disney! I can't wait to go without kids someday.
You could probably do a 5 day all-inclusive trip to Mexico but would be pretty tight on that budget.
Carnival has a 5 Eastern Caribbean cruise and with flights you could probably do it for around $1500 for the two of you. That still leaves you a little extra money for transportation to port etc. Keep in mind that will not include alcoholic beverages and excursions.
Also know that the week of President's day is heavily traveled and prices are very high for airfare so I would avoid that week.

I'd first look at a cruise. You won't get bored! Then I'd look at an all inclusive in Mexico as my next choice or. going to Puerto Rico, St. Kitts, or St. John.

We are doing just that in a week or so. Ours is a trip to Texas to visit some friends in Houston and to go to a college football game (Texas v. WVU...probably the only game we are going to this year as we did not buy season tickets this year).

We have gone to Disney World several times without the kids, and we really enjoyed the trips. I didn't feel guilty or bad, because we knew they would be there again pretty soon. But if that is a concern, I'd go with the cruise.

This is us too. With APs and DVC, it's always easier and cheaper to do a short trip to Disney w/o kids. Since the kids go so often, we actually feel less guilty going there without them than a place they have never been like this summer when we went to San Diego. WDW w/o kids is a totally different experience. That being said, everything listed on this thread is on our list to do without kids. In order of preference: northern California, Vegas, New Orleans, cruise. We would love to go to Europe but we would feel too guilty going there without them.

Oh No! I should not have read this thread. We are going without the kids in 2 weeks. Cheapest possible trip for us, best airfare and we have APs. Its out first time away from the kids I hope I don't miss them the entire time. Maybe we will hide in our room and only visit the F&W.

I would suggest NYC, but since you want warm in Feb that won't work. Our nation has some great southern cities that you will not find to be boring. How about Charleston, Los Angeles, San Diego, New Orleans, Nashville?
A cruise is a great suggestion. You can be as busy or as relaxed as you want to be on a cruise. Look at resorts in the Caribbean. DH and I are going to Curacao and we got a great deal on an airfare/resort package.

We are also from Ohio and just took a 5 night cruise out of Charleston this past Feb. We went to the Bahamas on the Carnival Fantasy, it was great and the weather was perfect! Even charleston seemed so warm compared to Ohio! We drove, took about 10-11 hours so it was a relatively inexpensive getaway. We were never bored, would highly recommend!
