5 day park hopper to dlx annual pass upgrade

Hello all,

I am hoping that someone out there can help me with this one. I found a great package price to Disneyland that includes a 5 day hopper pass, but I was thinking of upgrading the day we get there to a dlx annual. Does anyone know if and how you go about doing this??

I believe that you can stop by Guest Relations, to the left of the main entrance, and they will guide you. Have fun!

My suggestion would be to NOT upgrade the first day. You can upgrade to a annual pass any day of your stay. No matter what day you upgrade, your annual pass will reflect the first day of use for the 5-day parkhopper.

My reasoning for not upgrading is that with the annual pass, you're not eligible for EE. I'd just use the 5-day and do the EE whatever day you want and then upgrade to a season pass on the last day of your stay. Just go to the main street bank (on the right as you enter the park) and they'll take care of it all there. That's what we did. It was recommended to us by a CM to wait until the last day. We just went directly to the bank on our fifth day when they opened. We were in and out in about 20 minutes.

This is great advise- I'll just add one thing- once you've used your EE day, go ahead and upgrade. You will get a 10% discount on food purchases both in the park and most of the DTD locations. There is really no reason to wait once you've used your EE.

Depends on what you paid for your ticket. A deluxe ap is $229. I had paid $149 for a 3 day hopper, is it was $80 to upgrade. Depending on the special you got and when you trip is, your 5 day hoppers are valued at anywhere from $149-219. Pretty big range!

Typically, the price is on the back of your hopper, under or near the bar code. Sometimes its not, but its a good place to start. I bought mine thru disney travel, as part of the kids free promo. The price wasnt on it, but she was able to find it in the computer and see what I paid.

There is another minor reason why you might want to wait until your last day to upgrade. The AP is good one year from the time you upgrade, not from the time of your first park hopper usage. If you might visit the same time next year, it could pay off to wait. Last year, we went to DL Aug. 1-7 with a 5 day hopper. We had AAA enhanced FP parkhoppers, so we didn't want to upgrade until the last day. Our APs are now good through Aug 7, 2006, which is cool since we may return the first week of August again. If you don't expect to return the same time next year, and if you don't have a AAA enhanced FP parkhopper, I would definitely agree with hlbtimes2 -- upgrade as soon as you use your EE to get all the discounts (many of which have been added since I upgrade). BTW, A few of the discounts are also available with AAA card or Disney Visa.

That's not how it worked the last two times we upgraded. The start date was rolled back to the date of first park hopper usage, not upgrade date.

Really? I guess we just got lucky. I had expected the date to be rolled back to our first usage day (8/2) and was pleasantly surprised when it wasn't. OK shrunkenheadned, don't count on that in your decision as to when to upgrade.

Upgrading is really easy. The line at the bank to upgrade seemed pretty long, but it went very fast. Without us asking, a cast member told us exactly how long it was likely to take and he was right on.

Good point, hbltimes2! I forgot to mention the 10% off at the restaurants. Now that you mention it, I had wished I had upgraded a day earlier b/c we would have saved $15 at our Princess meal with our AP discount had I did the upgrade the day before.

If you are going to be there any blackout dates, make sure you don't upgrade until after those dates! Otherwise you will have to buy a black out pass for those days.

Disney's current policy is for guests of the 3 onsite hotels to get Early Entry on any day it is offered (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday.) It has nothing to do with the APs.

I know it has nothing to do with APs. But a normal ticket they stamp with an EE stamp that way they can stop people from EE more than once. I was wondering if, because they won't stamp an AP, you can still get EE if you stay at a disney property, and if so, can you get in early each day it's available?

It does not matter what you entry media is- hopper or ap- you get EE each day it offered IF you stay onsite. If you are staying onsite you'll need your room charge slip, as proof, at the gate.
