They are more than likely using experimental processes that yes, some do involve water with a bunch of soap additives that are supposed to prevent shrinkage. My personal recommendation is look for ones that are using a petroleum based cleaning process. It's the safest, least harmful to your clothes, and the least potential harm to the environment, if you're worried about that. I'd more be concerned about how the cleaner uses the chemicals at his disposal than the chemicals themselves.
Even drycleaners still using the cleaning solvent with a bad rep, perc, arn't all bad, it's more the fault of the people operating the machine than the solvent itself. A good working modern cleaning machine shouldn't leave strange odors or cause any kind of release of the solvent, unlike what the news 'in depth' reports would lead you to believe.
That's my .02 on it.
