Hello all!

I've been busy with work this morning but decided to take a little break.

Emily broke our hearts this morning. She started crying and saying that she didn't want to go to school because her tummy was hurting. I asked why and she said that she was nervous and scared. She said that no other kids want to play with her. I told her that she was out 2 days last week so she would just have to work a little harder at making friends this week. I'm not sure if I should try to contact her teacher or not. I hate the thought of my baby not having anyone to play with. Her birthday is Thurs. and I've already decided to bring cupcakes to school. Her teacher said to bring them at lunch.

Being a parent is so tough sometimes!

We had a similar problem with Alicia in first grade as well. Her "problem" was the teacher. This silly twit was yelling at the kids. After figuring that out, we both went in and told the principal in no uncertain terms that she was changing classes. It's amazing what you can do when you get mad!!

Hi I have been a member since 2003, but a lot of things changed in our lives since we last went on our Disney trip, for one thing we moved to a new area in Alaska, and now we've been here for 10 months, and I really missed the DIS boards, so decided to jump back in! I've been reading your thread on the double dip cruise, I wonder if it's sold out yet? I would love to be able to give this trip as a gift to my family, since their birthdays are in May, June and July respectively! Anyhoo, I wanted to introduce myself and join your group! :wave2:

Oh, poor baby! What grade? She's very sensitive, obviously. Is she really smart? Sometimes the smart, sensitive ones have a heck of a time fitting in.

Emily is VERY sensitive, like her mom :guilty: . She just started K. She's been in day care all of her life so she's used to interacting with other kids and teachers but she was at the same one all of her life. So being at elementary school is a whole new world. I'd like to think she's smart but don't really have anything to compare it to. When she got out of pre-k she was starting to read. She's on the young side though. She's just turning 5 this week when some of her classmates will probably be turning 6 next month! She just made the Sept. 1 cut-off.

Kelly,
Welcome, Welcome!! We'd love to have you. The only requirement is that you need to call DCL and book the trip, and get up to speed with the group by reading the 924 pages of this thread!!! :) JUST KIDDING! Just jump right in and tell us all about yourself and your family. I'd love to hear about living in Alaska. I'm fascinated with the state. We are AVID Iditarod watchers here and I'd just love to go up there sometime to watch the start (or the end) of the race. :)

Again, welcome. :)

We had a similar problem with KT in preschool. All of a sudden, 1/2 way through her second year of being at the same preschool, she didn't want to go anymore. Red Flag. Turns out one of the little boys was hitting her when the teacher wasn't looking.

We had a somewhat similar problem with KT in kdg. A little boy who had been in "anger management counseling for 9 months after his father had been tragically killed in a bar fight" targeted KT. Told her he hated her and was going to bring a gun to school and kill her.

I found out 2 days after it happened....and it was KT who told me. I asked the teacher about it and she told me that was exactly what happened, but she talked to the two of them, and this little boy said he was sorry and he really wouldn't do that. And she told me "he is such a sweet boy, I don't think he'd ever do that." And I said "is THAT the soundbite you want to hear played on the 6:00 news after my daughter is shot???"

The next day our "notification to homeschool" went into the superintendant and KT hasn't gone back since.

Welcome Kelly! We're first-time cruisers and can't wait to go. I know the cruise is not sold out yet but prices have jumped quite a bit. Hope you and your family can make it.

Kelly...welcome!! We're first time DCL cruisers, also. Hope you can join us. Some of us have cruised together before, not me, I'm a newbie but am looking forward to meeting everyone and experiencing a week long cruise with a double dip at Castaway Cay. Jump right in....

Let me add my WELCOME to the others! DH and I (he doesn't post) are longtime cruisers, but first time DCL'ers... Mary is right- check out her website to see who all of us are!

Hmm... what else can we tell you... we celebrate the TOP post of every page (and some days its quite a competition to get it)... some of us break into song on Friday mornings... Banfi is the beverage of choice for many of the Double Scoopers... we have a long ways to go before the cruise, so there's not a WHOLE lot of cruisetalk going on- we pass the time with 'fluff', fun, and family updates, knowing that it will make the cruise that much more fun when it gets here... we've had quite a few mini-meets already, though I'm not sure that the chances are very good that there'll be one in your neck of the woods... and a lot of good-hearted fun-poking and pot-stirring goes on on this board... jump right in!!!!

Update ... Emily had a great day. I asked if she played with anyone and she said "Yes. Sarah P." YEAH!!! :cheer2: Now I know if she has a meltdown tomorrow morning, it's just because she's tired.

I talked to another mom at day care this afternoon. Her son was in Emily's pre-k class last year and is doing after care as well. He goes to a different elem. than Emily. She said that he was being bullied last week and tried to fake sick one day. She said that she promptly had the issue addressed ... the child was a known bully ... at kindergarten ??? :confused3 He must have been some bully because I always thought that her child could hold his own!

I was watching our 'wonderful' ( ) weather guy on the news last night, .....61 days this summer over 90 degrees... no kidding....

Us too.....I want a job where I can predict 50% rain or not....yeah, like 'dem odds!!!!

finally got my reservations at the Radisson for the 26th a few days ago.
- I looked at Ron Jon's - no thanks...I'd rather keep my $$$ for what the Magic has to offer. Onward to the next choice!!!

Emily broke our hearts this morning. .... She said that no other kids want to play with her. I..... Her birthday is Thurs. and I've already decided to bring cupcakes to school. Her teacher said to bring them at lunch.

Poor little thing....I fast forwarded and hurray for Sara was it, and Moms like you.

ALASKANTWINKS - Welcome Kelley - wade right on in, the boards are fine!!!! Book now, as long as you can get your deposit back, and decide later!!!! and as for [Banfi is the beverage of choice for many of the Double Scoopers...] nope, it is really Fairy Tale Champagne....Yup, honest...

We had a somewhat similar problem with KT in kdg. A little boy who had been in "anger management counseling for 9 months after his father had been tragically killed in a bar fight" targeted KT. Told her he hated her and was going to bring a gun to school and kill her.
Thank you for acting firmly....I do NOT want to believe this happens....

I think that brings me up to date. Now on with the fluff :cheer2:

The glasses finally arrived.....only 10 days after they were ordered....so much for the one hour service and 2 pairs for $99......I always wonder about those commericals.....if you do not need glasses, come into our store and we will give you two pairs for $99. How many pairs do you think that ad would serve.... :rotfl:

OK venting over....

And yet more fluff to help with our post count....

The plants I thought I had toasted while DH was away as I did not water, have recovered....That is the good news. The queen palm is deader than a doornail..(or is it doormouse?) Anyway, we really think it was hit by lightening. We now have a matching set, the one on the other side had it's top wiped out by Hurricane Jeanne....

Kikikaren - along with shingles, roofs, fences - do you know how hard it is to hire tree cutters? Bet you do......
