Sad news from the Northwest. My dad passed away yesterday afternoon. He struggled since last Aug after a surgery. He was in a lot of pain and is now, we know, in a much better place. Sad for us since we will all miss him, but not sad for him.

Virgil, prayers for your dad as well. Hug him.

Angie -- so sorry to hear abuot your dad. We will keep you in our prayers.

Prayers and Pixie Dust for all those members of our "family" out there that need them.

I have a house full of company this weekend and haven't had much opportunity to check in. My parents and both of my brothers are here. My oldest brother has had to cut his trip short and will be leaving tomorrow. He has to get on a flight on Tuesday for Manchester, England. My youngest brother will be here until Tuesday night and then my parents are driving back to Austin on Wednesday. We go into a 4 day swim meet starting Thursday.

We have been looking at new cars lately. Charley drives a GMC Jimmy which doesn't get very good gas mileage, so we are looking at a Hyndai Sonata that gets much better gas mileage. Haven't made a deal yet, not sure we will, but who knows. Still looking for an older car for DJ

We have not heard from Matt this weekend since he is on a three day raft trip. We do know that the guy going with him broke his leg, but decided to go anyway. He should be off the river this afternoon and home tonight so maybe a call tonight.

Here is his week three report (one week late):

Sunday 6/18: I woke up this morning at seven, which was before anybody else, so I went online to check my email. While I was online Sergio the brother messaged me, he thought I was the sister. I told him I was not and we just talked. He is currently in Paris, France and is getting bored of it. After everybody woke up, I found out that I was not going to church I was to stay and watch the house. When they got home, I went out side and played soccer. Then it started to rain, so I came in got changed and went to the mall. While at the mall, I watched the movie Poseidon, it was ok but nothing special. After the movie I came home and made dinner. For dinner we had chicken Marcella with out Marcella wine and two of the spices. For the wine I use a Cabernet Sauvignon and for spices I used random ones that I have cooked with before. The chicken was too thick so I had to keep adding extra wine. The dinner was very rich! After dinner, the family watched television while the sister emailed her cards out.
Monday 6/19: I had pancakes for breakfast and then went to school. Today we learned something new and at ten, we took a break and watched the first half of the 10 O'clock soccer game. When we left, it was still 0-0, so I decided to check my email and received a tear jerking letter from my sister Lisa. I the came home and did my home work and played soccer until the rest of the family came home. We then had the leftovers of lunch for dinner, then the family played risk. Then we all went to bed, because non of use got a good night of sleep last night because of the dog barking (thank you molly for not barking).
Tuesday 6/20: At school, we watch the whole Costa Rica vs. Poland game. This was Costa Rica's last game in the world cup. They ended up losing the game 2-1 and came in last for their group. Then we worked on some Spanish grammar. I then went to a café for internet and lunch. I then rode the bus home and did my homework. Since it was not raining, I decided to play soccer. After the game, I had to go to the supper market with Claudia because Claudia cant carry the bag and look in the news paper for cute guys. For dinner, the family had tacos. I than watched television with them. I got bored from Claudia using the computer, the phone, and the television at the same time. So I went to bed, it was only eight.
Wednesday 6/21: For breakfast, I had watermelon and bread with butter. At school today, we worked on the parts of the body. There are 46 parts for me to remember in the four days that I am in Nicaragua. While talking to the mother I found out that, we are leaving tomorrow at 2:30 in the morning and that it is a nine-hour bus ride. During my school break at ten, I watched the rest of the Mexico vs. Portugal game, Portugal won 2-1 but it was very exciting with two penalty kicks. After the break, we continued to\ work on the conjunctions of verbs. After school, I took the bus home and started to work on remembering the body parts. Since nobody was home, for lunch I had rice and meat. I then played soccer for one hour. Afterwards, I had dinner with the rest of the family, which consisted of spaghetti and garlic bread. Then the sister did homework, I studied, and the mother watched television. I will be going to bed a little late tonight so I can sleep for most of the trip tomorrow.
Thursday 6/21-Monday 6/26: I was in Nicaragua, with my family. It was excessively hot, it consistently reached 104oC. For the four days, we spent a lot of time in Managua (the capital city) and Saint Thomas. The family needed to give paperwork to the other family members that we were visiting. Well there I got sick, because I was so dehydrated.

I just love Matt's letters!!

This one in particular had me grinning. No wonder he dehydrated. I googled the conversion for 104 degrees Celsius (since I'm not so good at converting temperatures in my head) and got:

104 degrees Celsius = 219.2 degrees Fahrenheit

Yewozer, that's HOT!!!!! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Sunday fun in Cave Creek:
She looks like she's saying "What? I'm giving him a head start!"

Matt just called. He told me about this post.

It's sad, but he gets off the river after three days and checks DIS before calling his family.

He is going to try and email another update tomorrow. He is to tired tonight.

Tori thinks this is "sooooo funny!!!!"

Thanks, everyone, for your kind thoughts and words. :grouphug: I just got off the phone with my cousin; she's doing OK - feeling a bit "numb" even though they knew it was just a matter of time for my uncle. And now he is in a better place and at peace.
