Well here is my evaluation of the Holiday Inn Sunspree hotel. I searched these boards before I left trying to get info about this hotel. Most the info was from feb so I thought i would give a thorough review of the hotel for anyone looking to go.
Gimmicks and Food at the hotel
First of all
if you have a free dinner coupon at holiday inn you will probably pay 10-90 dollars more for your room. So you really dont get dinner free you could probably eat somewhere else for less. And the food isnt the greatest at this hotel. Anyway Gimmick #2 is the Kids eat free deal. Well its true the kids eat free but the hotel charges you a 20% gratuity on their food and automatically charges your gratuity for the adult meals also. Well you might think its a good deal if you only pay 20% of the food the kids eat. But let me tell you the food was ok nothing great and if you have a pickier eater you are in real trouble. I am the kind of person that believes in tipping for service and for the quality service i receive i dont care for a mandatory 20% no matter what. Especially on a buffet when the waitperson only brings you a drink. So I tip the wait person about 10 dollars for bringing out drinks for 4 people. Gimmick #3 the buffet. The buffet which is 12.95 has these choices for breakfast cereal about 6 different kinds, bagels, toast, cold eggs, cold to lukewarm bacon, biscuits gravy which was watered down and oatmeal. The kids eat from a
SEPARATE!!!!! buffett. Choices are pancakes, french toast, and toast. If you have a picky eater big trouble. Kids are not allowed to eat off the adult buffet and vice versa. So dont share your eggs or you will be in big trouble with your server. Dinner buffet for adults had BBq ribs chicken some chili mac and cheese onion rings and deserts. Kids are not allowed to have the deserts like the cakes. The kids buffet had a hot dog, hamburger patty soaking in hot water, french fries, mac n cheese and pudding. Remeber dont even think about kids sharing off your plate. Anyway here is the only good thing I saw about this restaurant. They had a kids table that was a long picnic table with two tvs playing cartoons. My kids loved it in the morning. But in the evening i was disappointed to find that the movie Blade with Wesley snipes was playing on the tv with a group of 2-7 yrs old watching in a stunned fashion. My 2 year old was scared of all that kind of violence. Each parent should pick what their kid gets to watch but it s bad when it s the kids area of a restaurant and the whole place has to watch it. The restaurant does have a regular menu but you will pay 9 dollars for a salad about 9.95 and up for anything else. The cheapest thing was a bowl of soup for 3.50. Which is a tip if you arent that hungry and the kids are and you are stuck at the hotel. You can go in and have a bowl of soup and the kids will eat free. Be prepared to pay 20% of what they eat and 20% of your soup. Bill will be probably about 15 dollars.
The Room
If you are on a tight budget and want to spend every extra penny at the parks you can stay in this hotel. If you are looking for a nice place to relax in your room between parks forget about this place. First of all the rooms smelled really bad like mildew and mold. It is just an overwhelming pervassive smell. Especially in the kids bunk beds I had my 2 yr old sleep in the bed with me because the smell was so strong in the bunk beds. My 4 yr old wouldnt miss sleeping in a bunk bed if the world fell in so I let her sleep on the top bunk. They do have their own vcr make sure you bring some movies. The hotel charges 12.99 for movies however it is unlimited for the time you were there but they only had acouple new kids movies most were pretty old and not great for little kids. Probably 7-10 yrs would like them. When they came into clean they did not clean our bathtub I actually had to wash the dirt out of the tub when we came back from the parks that first night. The floors were not cleaned the crumbs that were there from the first day were still there when we left. It was kind of strange because the toilet paper and bath towels were all folded up into little points and pretty designs but the place wasnt clean. Another BIG WARNING this hotel has ant problems big time. We got up in the morning and the whole sink of the kitchenette was covered in ants we didnt leave anything out but they were streaming around the coffepot and fridge. I think they probably had not cleaned under the coffee pot before we checked in and the ants were everywhere. They were there everyday we just didnt use the countertop you could wipe it down and they would come back the next day. So bring some ant stuff with you if you go. The fridge was nice though it was about hip height and the freezer was about 12in long and about 8 inches high. We could freeze 6 bottles of water in there at a time. The ac in the room worked well it was very cold. The tvs worked although the maids kept taking the remotes with them when they left after cleaning we had to call down a remote for the tv.
The kids activities
Now this hotel has some good kids ideas but they are a little cheesy. If you hype them up to your kids they will probably go over well. First off when you check in they give the kids a goodie bag we had to wait till the next day to get ours they were out we checked in at like 3 pm. The have a treausre hunt which is very easy and alot of fun for the kids. You go around finding all the pieces. BEWARE every kid wins this game however they only pick three kids to get prizes. Only one of my 2 kids got a prize the other one was very upset because they both got everything right. There is a large arcade in the hotel be prepared it cost 75 cent to 1.25 to play 1 game. The kids got 4 tokens each in their goody bag that was worth 1 game each. The kids movie theater is pretty cool. It is just a big screen in aroom with some chairs but they did have the latest movies out and were playing disney movies. At night they have bingo and karaoke for the kids. THE BEST FEATURE OF THIS HOTEL IS THE POOL
