Today, I decided to go to the singer audition despite a yucky feeling throat. There were close to 200 people there, and I had to wait over 3 hrs before I got to sing. At least talking to a few people I was sitting with helped pass the time. I met a lady who does mime for Disney for special events and a girl from Tampa who comesto audition for Disney a few times a year. They both talked to me about theatre in this area.
Anyway, the audition itself went pretty quickly. I brought both "Far From the Home I Love" and "I Cain't Say No." I started out with the former since I knew that was my stronger one. The 2 men who were there seemed impressed. One of them commented about where I wrote on my resume that I sang the anthem at a River Kings hockey game, and he asked if I could sing a little of it acapella! (never mind that it was 6 years ago that I did that! but he didn't know) I only sang the first line or two because I was scared that if I kept going I'd blank out on the lyrics and feel embarrassed! I knew that some day that song would come back to haunt me. I was actually quite pleased with how I sounded. Of course, it helped that the room I was in had great accoustics. hehe. They didn't ask me to return or anything but they were nodding and saying very nice. I will try again next month.
I didn't have copies of my headshots besides the masters so I took one to Walmart to have a copy made so I didn't look foolish at the audition. It worked fine. Coincidentally, I was wearing the same shirt I had used for the pictures, so I definately looked like the same person as the photo.
On my way back, I stopped at a mall a few blocks from the apartments. It was small and pretty but rather sparce with several closed stores and empty shop spaces. There was this nice discount clothing store, and I found a cute shirt and skirt set for only $13.
Yesterday I was feeling rather bummed because of the character audition so Chris invited me to his place. It's really nice to have a guy like that around. He's good at cheering me up.
As far as a job...I'm not quite sure yet where to go from here. Hopefully Disney will have an opening in attractions soon at least. If not, I guess I could try Universal...but I'm reluctant. All my friends here are CMs, and I'd feel left out.
