Thanks so much for the live updates. It's been great fun following along during your cruise. I hope you have a great time for the remainder of your trip!!:yay:

Hi,
Just left Cadiz. Was a real nice day. Wine tasting at Tio Pepe!

The weather has been a bit bumpy, but was every bit worth it.

Vista Spa Villa was wonderful. Will give a Disney version report when we get back.:lmao:

Skype is blocked. Not sure about voice on Yahoo Messenger. But AIM and messenger itself work fine.

I have not seen any laptops to be used. Just the desktop type in the Promanade Lounge and Cove Cafe. So you can not hook up a camera or anything to it.

Debbie

Using a laptop now....in the room. It is great.
Probably not fast enough to do a camera though. 1 mps. Although it has gotten as fast as 5 mps.

Bob- Disney style report huh! You and Lee inspired Robb and I to book the Rasaul on the 11 night after your last Disney style report! :rotfl: I wonder if they drain the hot tub after each guest?

I was wondering about a laptop with a photo camera. Are you using yours or theirs? I really don't want to bring mine. My teacher for grad school is being kind enough to let me do my final late, so I don't really need it. Maybe I'll use Char and Andy's- I heard you toured with them in Cadiz.

Day 11: Cadiz! Tuesday, May 22, 2007

I cannot believe that it is already the 22nd of May….
Anyways, we arrived into Cadiz this morning at about 8:00 am on the dot. We have always arrived pretty much right on schedule at all of the ports, and even though the time was about the same arriving, there were A LOT more people up this morning.
We watched the ship dock into port, we backed into it again, and ate breakfast at Topsider’s. Our excursion didn’t meet until 10:15, so after breakfast we went back to the room to take our time getting ready.
Here are some pics of where we docked:

We were doing the Royal Equestrian school and show excursion and I was pretty excited. When we went to Rockin’ Bar D (the meeting place) and it looked pretty popular. There were a lot of people there. I think I heard someone say that there were 5 busses going. They separated us into 2 groups, preferred and grandstand….We happened to be the preferred seating, but I have no idea why…maybe when I booked that was all that was left since it was more expensive. I don’t remember, but we were happy we had it!

The ride over through the Andalucian coutryside was just beautiful. Lots of hillsides, although not as green and lush as Tenerife. It was about a 40 minute ride to the town of Jerez.
Our tour guide was great! She was very friendly and talked the whole time about the area, and its history, etc. When we arrived, we walked around to the main gates while our guide got all the tickets. We ended up pretty central on row 1. Since our DS4 was with us, we were really happy about that. No pics were allowed inside the arena, but you could take as many pics as you wanted outside. There were even some horses outside training, so we were able to see them and take pictures. I knew that since no pics or videos were allowed, they had to have a DVD or something available for the show, and made my way to the gift shop in the few minutes left before show started and bought the dvd. It’s a good thing that I did because during admission the line was like a sardine can, with the line backing way out into the hall…..I am just very glad I did not need to use the restroom, every time I passed by, the line was soo long to the ladies room. There must have only been a few stalls or something.

Let me say that these horses had to be the most beautiful creatures I have ever seen. If you have seen the Lipizzano stallions, they are pretty much the same. Our guide told us that they both come from the same Arabian ancestry, but the 2 breeds branched off to become 2 separate breeds. These horses were so beautiful….The show was awesome. The things that these horses could do were simply amazing. I found myself saying, “WOW!” the whole time!

Afterwards, our guide told us that we were very fortunate to see the show since it is only held 2 times a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. She said that the other transatlantic repo cruise would not get to go to it since the ship would not be going to Cadiz on a Tuesday or Thursday. I am sorry I have to gloat a little to the westbound med repo since they get to GAIN an hour almost every night instead of losing it almost every night. Grrrrrrr! So that gave me a little consolation about just one thing. LOL

On the way back the bus, there was a policeman on one of the Andalucian horses. So beautiful and majestic, even when they are just standing there.

The policeman was being very nice and letting people (kids) go up to the horse to pet it. So I took DS up to it, and the girl before him was petting the horse on the nose, so when DS went to reach up for his nose, the horse maybe smelled the chocolate on his hand from the kitkat he ate at the show, took his mouth and slurped his whole hand! You know how horses grab things with their lips first, before chewing?? Well, he slurped his whole hand. It could have been an awful story with the horse biting his hand, and the horse was kind of chomping on his bit, and moved his head right when DS reached up to pet his nose, and I saw teeth as he was chomping on his bit. BUT thank goodness, he just slurped his hand, and did not bite it. It would have been awful if the other scenario happened, BUT since it didn’t, it was pretty funny the expression on DS’s face when it happened….too funny!

They changed the excursion to include some traditional Spanish tapas and some sherry wine tasting instead of the boxed lunch that was planned. We don’t drink, so we just had some sodas. It was held at a huge winery where they specialized in sherry. We ate lunch, they really did not have enough tables, but there were chairs where we sat near a table J
DH told me to take some pictures upstairs. I went upstairs to the wine cellar, and wow, it was the biggest one I have ever seen! Well, it was actually the only one I have ever see, but it sure was big! It had barrels and barrels of wine as far as I could see. It was climate controlled and had mist spraying down from the ceiling. Our tour guide on the way back home joked about it taking so long to make good wine, just to be able to drink it so fast.

We arrived back at the ship at about 4:00pm. So basically it was just driving out there, getting there just in time for the show, no time to even really take many pics or really even to shop at the gift shop, seeing the show, and then getting back on the bus and driving back. I actually liked that it was that quick.

We got back in time to get DS some pizza, and try to convince him into the kids clubs. We wanted to head back into town to explore Cadiz and take lots of pics and video. I had to basically get him occupied while I snuck out--this took a little more time than I wanted it too, but I knew he would totally melt down if he watched me leave. I knew he would be a little upset when he noticed I left, but he would be fine. They were going to the Lab in an hour, and he loves the Lab. We had to hurry so we could get back in time for dinner at 6:00pm

Cadiz is a beautiful city. I wanted to head to their oldest church, I am sorry I don’t know what its called right now. I will edit it in later. Simply beautiful cathedral. DH and I paid to go up to the tower which they said was just opened up to let people up there. It had breathtaking views of the city! Thank goodness it was a ramp to walk up instead of stairs. DH saw flashbacks of Paris and walking up so many stairs up to the tower of Sacre Couer…did we really want to do this? But they said it was pretty quick, and when we saw it was a ramp you just walked up, we decided it was not bad at all! It is on a raw rock surface, so make sure to wear something with traction on the bottoms of shoes, if planning to go there.

I wanted to go down to the crypt, and inside the cathedral itself. They only allow you into the church a little ways, before you have to pay 4 euros per person to go the rest of the way in. DH did not want to (I think crypts scare him a little!), but I wanted to. That kind of stuff fascinates me. For those of you going to the Vatican, pay the extra money to go down into the crypt underneath….sooo worth it!!!

There was a center of the room that had an AWESOME echo. I could just shuffle my feet and you could hear it throughout the whole crypt area (not as big as the Vatican‘s by any means, but still branched off into several rooms). I could not take much video since the low light kept making my camera go out of focus. The echo and the atmosphere down there was pretty cool though!

We wandered through some side streets (These were really neat since they were so narrow cars could not go down them, just watch out though, because scooters can, and they go down them pretty fast too). DH said I spent too much time in the church, and it was time for dinner. We got back onboard just in time to go directly to dinner. The dining room was not that crowded at all. Our server said that on our rotation, there is not even a late dining after us since it was not a full sailing. There are on the other 2 rotations, just not after ours. I always wondered why they never rushed us out of there to get ready for the second seating. Now I know why!

The table next to us went on the other most popular excursion which was the excursion to Seville. They said it was beautiful there and they were not ready to leave. They traveled around by bus and saw the sites with their group and guide. There was no free time or shopping time there, but they still had a great time. They had 2 kids that looked about 8 and 5, but there was no way our son would have been good on that one. He would have hated it, so we would have had to do that one without him, and we wanted to do our outings with him if possible. That is why we chose Loro Parque in Tenerife because it would be the only thing he would like. Sorry for digressing…

Dinner was great, and although we were beat tired, we wanted to go and check out a little more of the city, since our time was cut short. But after a huge dinner, and being so tired, we decided to go and catch the show with Jim Brickman instead. He was really good, but so relaxing, we were dozing on and off throughout the whole show. He even had 2 of the show performers perform some of his songs with him. They did a great job!

Since we did not leave port until 10:30, we still could have taken a quick walk, but nope, way too tired now. We went and caught the Match your Mate show, very funny, and then headed up to bed to call it a night.

Tomorrow will be the debut of “When Mickey Dreams” show. I am pretty excited to see that.
And of course Gibraltar--DH is most excited to see there, so we will have another fun, yet exciting day. We are planning to just do it on our own, so we have the flexibility of going back to the ship whenever we want. It should be less expensive too. We think DS will LOVE watching the apes there.
Stay tuned!

sounds like another great day
thanks again for taking the time to post

Thx Michelle, for your amazing, detailed reports..........

I know that someone had posted a blog that was a group of women and it was under like davidson or davson family adventures or something like it. I can't seem to locate it again. It was a wonderful blog and I was enjoying following it. Could someone please post it?

Thx to the Davidson's for their detailed blog!!

Thank you Michelle :) My best friend is a Cm and i havent heard from them since the 5th... your reports are invaluable :) fanastic pics too! keep up the good work :)

I accidentally stumbled upon the magic docked at the Strait of Gibraltar (if anyone is awake at this crazy hour - I'm not supposed to be). I went to the webcam to prep it for whenever the Magic docked not knowing it would be there.

http://www.llanito.net/webcam.htm

Just wanted to add that it's very pretty with the sun rising on it and the city.

We are in Gibraltar!

Got up around 6 am and was able to see us going through the Straits of Gibraltar in the dark. Would have been better in the daylight, but could see the lights on both sides. So that was cool.

Can see 2 continents and 3 countries from here :)

Looks like a great day outside. Last nights Jim Brickman concert was wonderful. Tonight is Mickey Dreams. A new show and is supposed to be wonderful.

Only a few days left!!!! It has really flown by.

Off to see the apes!

Debbie
