4th of July MK planning?

We are going to spend the day of the 4th in MK (twins 13th birthday) but I am struggling with the best way to do it. Yes, I know it will be crowded, hot and crazy - completely prepared for that. We have a 12:20 reservation at The Plaza (figure it will ensure we will get in, doubt crowds would reach level 4 at 11am). It is not our only day in MK so the focus is really on parades and fireworks for their bday. I have read a lot about RD, going to one ride while getting FP+ for other ones we would like to do but after reading a recent trip report and their love for the parade FP+ I am wondering if I should make that our focus? Between the afternoon parade, fireworks and MEP I am wondering if we won't spend our day saving our spots? I know I have plenty of time to think about it and when our window opens (off site) who knows if it will be an option but just looking for some input. Should I concentrate on the major rides I know the kids will love or save us the time of saving parade/fireworks spots? I know ultimately it will depend on us but hoping for a discussion that may sway me one way or the other. Thanks!

I prioritize the rides, myself.
And, yes, we DO watch the parades and fireworks, too.
But, it is actually LESS likely that you would be able to get a FP+ for the afternoon parade -AND- MSEP on July 4th,
and, since you will be in MK on another day(s,) I'd do the parades (at least one or the other) on another day(s)

Many details, logistics, and FP+ priorities found HERE.

Thanks! Good point! Maybe we should consider saving the afternoon parade for the second MK day (the night time fireworks & parade are a bday must). If we position ourselves correctly during the afternoon parade we may be able to check a few rides off our list. I am a big believer in setting our expectations and I know what we are in for being in MK that day but I am trying to think it out a bit and do what I can to make it as enjoyable of a day as possible for the birthday boys.
