So since the holiday weekend is upon us, what is everyone planning on having at their BBQ's? I'm trying to pull together a menu today, so i'm looking for any new, fun ideas & recipes anyone wants to share.

Fun & cute decorating ideas are more than welcome too!

I'm having a cookout for family and friends and here is what I'm doing:

Hamburgers
Hot Dogs with Red Hot sauce
Barbecue chicken
Homemade baked beans
Fruit Salad
Macaroni Salad
Potato Salad
Veggie Tray
Meatballs
Deviled Eggs
Chips
Red, White n Blue Cookies
Red, White n Blue Cupcakes with flag toppers & sprinkles
Smores

Can't wait! They are calling for nothing but sun with temps around 82:cheer2:

Soda, Beer, Juice and Captain Morgans for me:cool1:

Forgot decorating ideas;)

Everything will be held outside for the most part. I have 2 8 ft tables with blue tablecloths. On top are red n white checkered placemats which will be placed along the middle of the table. In the middle is this wooden "thing" which holds 6 small flags. On the other table will be my cupcake tower holder with the red, white and blue cupcakes.

We also have face paint for the kids :) and glow bracelets for evening and fireworks.

Badmitton and bocce ball (spelling?) and water balloons.

We bought a new fire pit to roast marshmallows for smores.

Plus the boat and tubing - we live on a lake:boat:

This is close to what I think i'll most likely end up with. Has everyones favorites, right? And the Captain will be plentiful around here!

Ooo I LOVE tubing! We live on the Long Island sound, but there are so many boats out that day we decided to not deal with the headache, and just stay here, then head over to the beach to watch the fireworks. We can see many shows from Long Island, and tons in Connecticut.

I can't wait, this is one of my favorite holidays!

Oh, and I think i'm stealing the cupcake tower idea. I got a new cupcake holder and haven't used it yet - perfect time to break it in.

We do a pot luck with the inlaws every 4th. The grandkids LIVE for this day. :lmao: We don't do much for decorating but we have some left over balloon weights that have stars and streamers in them so we are going to put those on the tables. The kids run all sorts of relay races and other "track" events. We have bocce ball, crocquet, and KICK BALL is a must. Mostly the kids run around and have fun and the parents relax and drink various "adult" cocktails :lmao:.

Do use it :thumbsup2and make white cupcakes. Divide the batter into 3 parts and color one red and the other blue. Fill cupcake liners with a dollop of red, white and blue batter. Let me tell you, it is so easy but everyone just LOVED it so! Very festive!

We'll be having chicken breasts, hamburgers, and hotdogs on the grill. Also coleslaw and baked beans and kohlrabi, asparagus, broccoli and carrots for dipping.

My son (7) and I are making fans out of paint stirrers, cardstock, and sliver star stickers. I think we're going to make banners (a la the pennant style that car dealsers, etc have) make out of patriotic craft paper and ribbon, too.

Hit a deer on the way to Disneyworld. Car is in the shop now and was to be done tomorrow. They just called with unforseen damage and have to order parts. Won't be done until the 5th, then needs inspected.

Thus, Wifey and I are sharing my beater car. I get home and she jumps in and goes. I'm not walking 40 miles to the store to get stuff, so no 4th of July picnic for us.

Our 2nd car is "getting" fixed too-it won't go in until tomorrow at the earliest so we are planning on renting a car for the weekend because DS17 needs to get to work and the rest of us have plans :lmao:.

ok heres the tentative menu - lots of food! I LOVE to cook & entertain, so this is fun for me.

APPS:
bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers
veggie platter
deviled eggs
chips/dip

MAIN:
chicken (different kinds of marinade)
burgers - will have a topping bar with lots of different things for the burgers
hot dogs
sausage
pulled pork (going to make in the crock pot - super easy)

SIDES:
baked beans
cole slaw
potato salad
macaroni salad
contemplating a regular green chopped or ceasar sald

DESSERTS:
flag cake! (chocolate sheet cake, vanilla buttercream, with strawberries & blueberries)
red, white, & blue cupcakes
fruit salsa with cinnamon chips
apple pie or apple crisp - can't decide - opinions?
raspberry peach pie
strawberry pizza thing - absolutely delicious

I think I gained 5 pounds just typing all that out!

Everything looks great! I love to entertain too, especially decorate

I suggest Apple Pie - to me that is easier. I LOVE all your dessert options! Maybe I will add Apple Pie to my list too, afterall, it is the Fourth of July;) My SIL just called and said she is bringing some sort of side dish and a dessert so I guess my menu is expanding as well.

have a great time!

Thanks! I actually just changed up the menu - scrapped the chicken & pulled pork, now we're doing a huge burger bar - I have about 20 different toppings on my list so far.

I think im leaning towards the apple crisp. It's a family tradition, and if we don't have it I think people might cry! I should post the recipe, super easy and unbelievable delicious.

You have a great time too! Thanks for your ideas

Well pretty sure it's just going to be the 4 of us so we will probably BBQ the tri tip I have in the freezer. :) I'll make some roasted taters to go with it and maybe a salad of some kind. I've got the goodies to make a really good broccoli salad so I might do that. I've also got the frozen apples & pears ready to go to make an apple or pear crisp so I'll probably do that, will probably drink some wine with our food. :) My apple crisp recipe is super easy and delish too, we have a pear tree so I actually use pears instead of apples sometimes, it's super good. :)

Our town has a huge outdoor festival every year, so we will be going to that. I'll take sausage balls, ham sandwiches, chips and dip, carrots, grapes, chocolate chip cookies, and rice krispy treats. Other friends/family will be there as well, and there is no telling what they will bring!

Since it'll just be me and my husband (and maybe his granny), for dinner I'm thinking fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, and apple pie. For lunch, it'll probably be grilled Nathan's hot dogs and macaroni and cheese. OM NOM NOM! :)

I always do fruit pizza, in the past I have made burgers and fruit and slaw but I am thinking of BBQ Ribs and corn on the cobb..

anyone ever made BBQ ribs? Know a good recipe??

My aunt makes the most wonderful ribs. She just slow cooks them for awhile in the oven on low heat, then mixes equal parts bbq, honey, and duck sauce together, and brushes it on them when they are almost done. If you do it too soon, then the sauce will burn. However I know a lot of people love dry rubs on ribs, so its really personal choice. I find a lot of great recipes from recipezaar.com. Just search what you are looking for, then sort by ratings. I have yet to have any complaints from a recipe I found that way!

Also, people looking for dessert, check out these cupcakes! I found them while doing a search, they are so unbelievably adorable, I cannot wait to make them this weekend.
