We are looking at going to Aulani on the 4th, how was it for people who were just there? Any fun special activities?

I was at the Marriott Ko Olina a few years ago over the 4th (we go every other year for a couple weeks or more). It was the first time we chose that time, and they had a super fun carnival type thing that year over there; games, food booths, etc. It was the busiest day ever; we secured one pool lounger for us to share, so we could take some time to sit. Usually at the Marriott, you can find a pool lounger mostly any time of the day, but not on the 4th! I’d assume at Aulani, it’s also a very busy time, so I’d do some planning ahead if you want a cabana type thing. They did have some nice fireworks, which I’d assume will return in the future. I’d check and see if the Marriott has the carnival thing again; it was fun and all the money raised went to charity (I think it was a children’s hospital). Short walk over for something different.

We were there this year, and there wasn't really anything (covid)... apparently pearl harbor had a firework show this year! I think it would be pretty cool to celebrate the 4th there.

There's usually a family-friendly event that includes fireworks, food booths, rides, games, movies, etc. Hopefully it returns next year!

Can you share where you've attended this event? I'm asking because Aulani doesn't do fireworks or anything like this. Ko Olina Marina does the fireworks (except this year). Is this event at Ko Olina Marina?

It’s always been in the public areas of Ko Olina such as the beach, never at an individual resort. The fireworks used to be launched from lagoon 1, which is the beach directly in front of Aulani. Has it moved to the marina?

Here’s a link to a site that has pics of the 4th of July event http://hawaiiahe.com/koolina-celebrates-4th-july-spectacular-aerial-fireworks-display/

It‘s been awhile since I stayed at Aulani for July 4th, but I don’t remember them having any special events. Although it’s not guaranteed, the Ko Olina Marina Association had fireworks which were visible over the lagoon and had a soundtrack. Aulani won’t guarantee that there will be fireworks, but you can call closer to the date to check if they will happen. Basically, the area hotels put on the display.

July 4th is a busy time at Aulani, so pack your patience and be prepared to go down early if you want a pool chair. The resort usually clears out a couple of days after the fourth, so things should be less hectic then.
