Hello,
My 4th grade son needs to complete his state project by making a food item for their state food festival next week. His state is NEVADA. We are having difficulty finding a "state food"-something to represent Nevada. From research, Ken's dressings and Ocean Spray have offices there, but those products in Connecticut where we live are distributed out of Massachussets.
Their major crops are potato and onion, along with livestock and sheep. Any ideas for an easy recipe that is kid friendly and can sit out for a little while. Each class (there are 4) will be sampling the items. When we visited in November (before I knew about this project) I brought the kids back Prickly Pear candy but it's made in Arizona. I'm out of ideas.:confused3

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!:worship:

Evidently this is a common problem for 4th graders! ;) I couldn't believe how many hits I got when I did a quick Google search. Some of the suggestions I saw were Native American foods, things made with sourdough, and Basque recipes. If he included information about Basque sheepherders in his report that might be the way to go. (I have no idea what a Basque sheepherder is BTW. ;)) Here's a site with Basque recipes - maybe a bread or dessert? http://www.buber.net/Basque/Food/Recipes/

One site had a link that isn't working for me, but maybe you could try it again later since it seemed pretty good: http://www.classbrain.com/artstate/publish/nevada_recipes.shtml (Go down to Foods from Nevada “The editors of Nevada Magazine compiled a “sampler of some of the prominent ethnic and regional foods found in Nevada.” The following is only a brief selection from The Great Nevada Cookbook: Recipes of the Real West.” It includes Basque, cowboy, Native American and miner recipes, including Sourdough Hotcakes.)

Thank you for the suggestions. We have decided to go with a coyboy/miner theme-Chuckwagons and do a Dutch Oven Dump Cake. I got the idea off another website. I appreciate your help :)
