I was looking on a site that gave transportation times does it really take 45 mins on the monarail to get from ep to mk? Or 49 min to get from chef mickys .to pop? If this is true I have to rearrange our schedual to allow more time for travel :sad2:

Transportation Calculators are famous for giving inaccurate information.

However... here's the thing. Walt Disney World is 47 square miles. It's about twice the size of Manhattan. It can take 15-20 minutes to get from one end of property to the other. And transportation runs about every 15-20 minutes.

So it's always best to over-estimate transportation time, realizing that although it probably won't take that long, it COULD take that long.

If using disney transportation to go from a resort to another for a meal I think they always tell you to allow 1.5 hrs. That is a great rule of thumb to stick by ....better to be a little early then be really late.

Any time you need to take more than one bus/monorail/boat, you do need to leave extra time to get from one to the other and then wait in line.

The first time we ever did a character meal, it was Chef Mickey's. We were in EPCOT and I asked a CM how long it would take to get to the restaurant. She told me that it would be about 10 or 15 minutes. I have no idea which little piece of my brain said not to trust that and to get going early, but I'm glad I did. By the time we got to the monorail, realized we had to get off at the TTC and transfer to the other monorail, waited for the second one, and got to the Contemporary, it had taken well over a half an hour and we barely made our reservation time.

That said, I like the WDW transport system and we use it on every trip. (The above happened on our first trip....) If I get to running late or just want to get somewhere quickly, I'll hop in a cab, though.

I sure hope it was wrong it said 44 min ride from epcot to mk plus add 5-10 min for waiting for monarail to arrive. Is there any site that is closer to the actual transportation times? Thanks

I think the reason for the total time is due to you having to change monorails at TTC. I think the time is about right having done this on 2 different trips.

YUP That sounds average.......However if you go during a busy season...you CAN wait 45 minutes just to get on the monorail!

You can always try the bus to MK and then walk to CR, or the bus to CR from Epcot....and then monorail back to Epcot at your liesure if you need to get back there.
Just another option....or a cab..I think it would run anywhere from 10-15.

we will be going in the off season hopefully that will help. Boy, am I glad that I found this out now instead of while we were there. At least I know how to plan thanks to this board! :thumbsup2 Thanks everyone!!

I just looked at some pictures that I took on our last trip (in March)....based on the times on the pictures....the monorail left right after we boarded at Epcot and it still took 55 minutes to get to the Magic Kingdom gates...we missed the connecting monorail at the TTC....so we did have to wait for the next monorail....I never realized it took so long...sure didn't feel like almost an hour.

Our longest trip from Epcot to MK was about an hour around 2:00 p.m. on President's Day.

We were lucky to get on as soon as we got to the Epcot station. Then decided to try the boat instead of transferring to other Monorail. Wasn't aware that the ship doesn't sail until it's full...or we would have made better time.

Of course we got hung up waiting for the parade to end to jump on the train @ MK to Splash Mt.

In the future, think we'd spring for a taxi; if we didn't use our rental.

Middle of the day often there is just one ship going between MK and the parking lot. It cannot sit at either dock very long otherwise it would not complete a round trip in half an hour and the time between ship pickups should be less than that.

During more busy times there are two or sometimes three ships running. With three ships sometimes one ship will be waiting just outside the dock for another to finish loading or unloading. Fortunately there is almost never a huge crowd getting off and also a huge crowd getting on at the same dock.

Which is still better than Manhattan, where it can take you 15-20 minutes to get from one end of the block to the other :teeth:

Well, yeah - we all know "Disney-time" is different from real-world time :)

I'd say that the 45 minutes from Epcot to MK is pretty accurate. It could take longer depending on the time of day. Remember that transit times include waiting for the monorail to arrive, twice in this case since you have to switch monorails at the TTC. Also on the MK resort loop, the monorail goes clockwise so you'll stop at the Polly, GF and MK before ariving at the Contemporary.

We've waited @ parking lot side at least 15 minutes for boat to sail, usually in mid-afternoon. DS always times it because he's anxious to get to the park. Personally, I like the boat rides @ WDW...time to de-compress.:thumbsup2
