$445 A NIGHT for GCH!! Are they serious?

We're headed back to the land for Spring Break and I thought maybe we should spend a few nights at the GCH for a change. Well I just checked online and the price for one night was $445!!!!!!!!!!! Is this still a family park? I'm wondering because how many families could justify paying that price per night? I get that I'm not forced to pay that and there are other choices but geez that is still nuts! I paid $99 a night about 4 years ago to stay there, and now in the midst of an easing recession the price is ridiculous. So sad.

Just thought I'd vent.

They are very serious, try a suite. You are also going during good markup time. Is that an AP price or just RR. You will also find that the place will be most likely booked to the gills.

Yeah I could never afford to go up until recently (when I got a pin). Not sure when you have spring break but they are running some spring offers- a stay three nights get the fourth free package offer through 4/11 and then a tiered savings offer (25, 30 or 35% off depending on the hotel) for room only ressies through 4/13

I felt this way exactly. However, there must be a lot of people who aren't feeling the same pain because it was super crowded this week. I am surprised that this economy is still struggling because when I was there (the last few days)- I was astounded that it was so full.

Must be nice to have that much extra money.

See, this is really weird--because I would be more like 99.00 a night are you serious? Because I stayed there 4 years ago and paid 350.00 +

So I get what you are saying (it is expensive!) but I cannot imagine paying 99.00 a night for it. That is less than the Best Western across the street on Harbor charged me for the flea bag we stayed in last summer!

What does a "family park" have to do with price at the nicest of its hotels? I'm not sure I understand. Disneyland is absolutely a family park. There are 3 hotels on site that families can pick from, depending upon their budgets.

I am surprised that you got $99/night a few years ago. I don't think we have ever seen a rate that low for the GCH. (DH and I like to take a "local escape" every now and then!)

As for the midst of a recession... There are lots of families (and probably couples) who are either doing well still or budget accordingly for a vacation. Plus, you have to remember that cost is all relative. What I can afford may be exorbitant for someone else. What is crazy expensive for me, may not be for someone else. Also, the GCH gets visitors from all over the world, not just those dealing with the US economy.

If you want to stay at the GCH, I suggest looking for promotions like the one mentioned above which brings it to $300-something a night or saving up so you can splurge. Remember, it's not only what you pay, but what you get for it. It's more than HoJos because (in my opinion) it is BEYOND worth it.

Last trip we looked at the DVC and for Disneyland its GCH and while I will admit the suites are awsome. They are serious what anybody could dream of. But the cost is so much that our every 2-4 year trip would definetly be in the 4 year end of the spectrum.


We are the kind of travelers that just use a hotel to sleep in so the GCH is not for us. Now if at some point we become the kind of folks that take a day off and spend it at the pool or in our room then maybe.

Now if you think thats $$$ try a suite have seen some post 2 yers old and they where around $4,000 a night

I love staying at the GCH. Would I pay $445 a night for a standard room, no. I have stayed in way nicer hotels here in Hawaii than GCH and have paid way less then that and got way more. But you are at Disneyland and the location can't be beat. Honestly I didn't think our room was that over the top, there wasn't even robes in our room, and we didn't get turn our down every night with our little chocolates, but I love how they do the towel service, and I really I loved the lobby and the atmosphere the most, that was incredible. I agree that the $445 for a regular room is too much. I hope when we go back that isn't the going rate at the time, I'll be so depressed that we'd be unable to stay there

Are you sure if was the GCH? I've never even heard of $99/night, even at PPH. There is no way I would pay $445/night. We will probably never stay there. I just can't justify it when there are perfectly nice/clean hotels right across the street.

Yes, it was absolutely 100% the GCH and it was $99 a night. I mentioned it today when I called Disney reservations and the operator said she remembered selling some of those rooms back then. It was an airline employee rate which is at 30% off the regular rate but even if you add on the 30% we are still a LOOOONNNG way from $445 a night.

The GCH is a spectacular hotel, with a gorgeous lobby but I don't think the rooms warrant that kind of price... however, they wouldn't charge that if people didn't pay it. So, here we have the law of supply and demand. I'd just hate to see Disney become like major sporting events where your average family becomes totally priced out.

All of that being said, these are only my opinions and my values in terms of what I think is reasonable. I have NO judgement towards anyone else if they want to pay that for their family. I absolutely believe in to each his own. We travel to Disney, alot and I mean alot, so if I were to pay that price we would only be able to visit once in a blue moon. That's not worth it to me.

P.S. I checked the offers that were suggested and they were cheaper but still $315 a night and that was still too high for my taste. Thank you though for suggesting them.

Exactly why we bought DVC. We are staying in a 1 bedroom villa at VGC in July for a getaway weekend. Totally unplanned until 2 days ago.

We are doing the 4th night free deal during our 6 night stay in March. Yeah we are paying a lot to stay there. But it's an experience of a lifetime, and you can't beat the location. We won't always stay there. We love the Park Vue across the street too.

We are staying at GCH at the end of March and it works out to approx $335 per night ... yes that is on the pricey side, however this is probably a "once in a lifetime" holiday and we are paying for the position of the hotel . And the Aussie dollar is at an all time high so that helps Anyway we can't wait for this trip!

I really thought I noticed a downward trend of the room rates after the extra hotel rooms built when they built the DVC wing came online. Those kinds of rates are what convinced me to buy DVC as soon as the villas went on sale. I had payed for three rooms for my kids and families for a celebration trip and the room cost (before tax and resort fee) was $354 per room per night... I know that some hotels on Harbor are pretty darn close but I never want to leave the property once there and I just love the whole atmosphere..no regrets at owning DVC just to call that place 'home'. I really like the new wing..even though it is kind of further away it seems like the rooms are closer for some reason...out the lobby, down the little walkway by the pools, up the elevator and no super long twisty hallways to deal with. All I miss is that wonderful DTD view and hearing the music at night..or course now I hear WOC a night, so that's not so bad either

The lowest we ever paid was $199 a night several years ago. We only want to stay at GC and the best way for us to afford to do that was buy DVC.

If you are going to Disney a lot...you may want to consider looking at DVC. It took us 11 trips before we bought resale and I only wish we would have purchased sooner.

I agree, and anyone can visit the lobby *one needs not be a hotel guest to do that - just don't linger too long* we've spent 1 night at the Grand 9/09 ~ I got a discounted rate of around $200 (incl. taxes/fees) ~ we moved across the street on Harbor to the Anaheim Plaza for $54 per night for our last 2 nights!! Our room at the Grand was dark - I prefer bright/fresh rooms. *The kids thought the bunk beds were cool though

I couldn't imagine paying that much for a place that all I'm going to do there is sleep. I get that it's fancy and all but I'd rather extend my Disneyland trip by 3 days than to stay in a fancy Hotel. That's just me though.

Anything over 250 a night at the GCH is pretty tough for me to justify. It would have to involve a once every 4 years or so trip with the family. I am paying the equivalent of $220 per night, but I rented DVC points to do so, so I did save a bit of money through that process. However, the location and room are a bit more useful this time around because it is not just a place to crash during naps or at the end of a long day with the kids. Since I am going with just my wife, and the park hours are shorter for this trip, we can actually relax in the room, and (gasp!) sleep in a bit before going to the parks.

I can say that having little kids on the trips does help me justify the rates at the GCH just because of the proximity and the ability to go back to the room at a moments notice (wet clothes, melt downs, etc.). I'll bet as our kids get older, we dont mind staying off-property because the need to be closer will have diminished some.
