Hi, we went to Disney World for the first time this past September and our room+tickets was $1871 (free dining included so charge for room would have been rack rate). I just priced it for the same week in 2010 and the price is $2316 (no discounts). Why is the same room at the same resort so much more in 2010? I just don't get it but I am sure there is a logical reason. Please help me understand. :confused3 TIA!

I could be totally wrong but could it be that the actual rates aren't out yet and they are pretty much just quoting the highest possible rate? That happened to me once when I booked in August for a January trip. They quoted me, like $159 a night for my value resort and I had to pay one night deposit. In the end the room was about $114 (preferred).

Here's hoping it's the same for you.

Is dining included in the $2316? What dates & resort? How many adults & children?

2010 room rates were released in August 2009.

Be sure to compare:

- room type
- ticket type
- insurance
- number of nights
- number and ages of travelers (someone being 10 vs being 9 will increase ticket price)

Feel free to post specifics and we can double-check for you.

Thanks for the offer to double check. I priced the exact same options - staying at Coronado Springs Sept 25-Oct 2, standard room 2 adults one child age 4, no dining, 8 day MYW tickets, no insurance, no flights. I priced again just now and I am still getting $2316. This past Sept we paid $1871. I am just not getting it. Thanks again for your help!

The $2316 includes the Park Hopper Option AND the Water Park Fun and More option - did you have both of them in 2009?

Removing water parks gives me $2150.49
Removing park hopper gives me $1984.35

With theme park ticket increases and room rate increases that seems more like it.

Some of the price difference is definitely in the room rate. It also seems that the water park option & park hopper option are added... they equal $300 alone on trip price. Running the numbers with a base 8 day ticket, in a standard view for the same dates, comes back with a total of $1984.35. Definitely closer to last year's rates even with the room increase.

You guys are great! I didn't even see those listed. We did not have those last time. Makes me almost think another trip is doable. Thanks!!

They should have comparable dates for free dining again next year, so I think the trip will be very doable for you guys! You can book now, and when FD is offered, call back and have it applied to your ressie. PLUS, you can just do the room & tics, put down the $200 deposit, and make periodic payments so the $2000 isn't quite as big of a slap in the face at the 45 day mark.
