It is my 40th birthday when we are there on July 5. What would you do to make it memorable?
We are there a few days before and leave 2 days after.
We will have probably already done WOC, Fireworks, etc..
I know it will be crazy busy there too, being a Saturday after the 4th!

Where would you celebrate?
A nice dinner?
A tour?
Fantasmic dessert?
Medieval Times?

There will be 8 of us. 4 adults and 4 teens aged 14-19.

Now that you've mentioned it, I want to go to Medieval Times. But, since it's a Disney trip, if you can get tickets, the 4th or 5th are excellent nights for the Fantasmic dessert seating. If you get the first seating you can stay for fireworks. Do all 8 members of your party want to go to a nice dinner? Would you be comfortable sending the teens to the parks or to a movie in DTD and then going out with the adults? It's already a Disney trip on your birthday, so it will be memorable.

My first thought from your subject line was: Dinner at Napa Rose

After reading your post, a few questions:
Could the adults do a very nice, adults-only dinner at Napa Rose while the teens enjoy the Park on their own? If yes, that would be my plan.

If not, are the kids mature enough to include in a very nice, classy dinner? If so, Napa Rose :)

Another "different" thing would be a tour, like "Walk in Walt's Footsteps" for example.

Happy Birthday. I too will be celebrating my 40th the week before with a quick trip to my happy place. I have always told the kids we will not go to Disneyland in the summer. However, we have celebrated my husband's 40th, Mom's 70th, and our 10 year anniversary in past years. I decided that it would not feel right not to go to Disneyland for my 40th.

I have some tips that I have used in years past to celebrate an occasion:

1. First off, don't be shy about it. From the minute you arrive, let it be known that it is your birthday. If you are staying at a resort hotel, let them know upon check-in. We have gotten autographed pics of characters, & balloons.

Wear your Birthday Pin, Birthday Ears, and sash with pride. Disneyland is infamous for its magic and you never know what they will have in store for you once they know you are celebrating an occasion. My mom said that one of her highlights of her 70th trip was all of the Happy Birthdays she got while wearing her birthday ears. I also made my husband 40th birthday shirts to wear each day. We have received hotel upgrades, restaurant discounts, & a serenade from Sligo Rags (the Irish band that sometimes plays in CA). Stitch even got everyone to sing Happy Birthday to my mom at our character meet and greet.

2. If you want to try out some of the fancier restaurants, go for just dessert. We had never done the Blue Bayou. For my Mom's 70th, I booked a late lunch time around 3:45pm. We were seated right by the water which was fun. We ordered off of the dessert menu bringing my mom a Mickey's Pirate Boat Birthday cake. It was fun and a fraction of what a dinner or lunch would have cost us.

3. If money were no object, or if I had started this plan earlier, do a VIP tour. The tour costs roughly $355/hour for a group up to 10 people. You get the VIP Tour Guide for at least 6 hours. You get immediate access to some rides, fast pass lines for others, special seating for parades and shows. Ah, how to come up with magic money. This is definitely on my bucket list!

4. PhotoPass+. I recently gave a a friend of mine a PhotoPass+ for her recent trip to Disneyland. Her husband has cancer and thought they would take a great Disney trip to perk up family spirits. I wanted to do something for her and thought this would be ideal especially since she is a "phone photographer". Their family now has all of those magic memories. I am debating this one for my trip. I am only going to be in the parks 2 days. I don't know if it will be worth it to me. 3+ days and I would totally buy photopass+. If you preorder it online it is cheaper too! I think I paid around $70 for hers.

5. Commemorate your trip with a cute Christmas ornament. Such an inexpensive way to remind you of an amazing trip each time you decorate your Christmas tree.

Have a wonderful trip!

LOL, Dreams beat me too it and she echoed my first thoughts.

Thinking a little more, how about...

- A massage at Mandara Spa at the GCH.

- if you are super adventurous, a marathon DL day where you ride every single ride in the same day.

- buying a hidden Mickey book and have a hidden Mickey search contest.

I always thought it would be fun to have dinner in that restaurant in Pirates. I was going to do that in WDW last year for my 40th, assuming it was the same. To my surprise, they didn't have the same restaurant. (We ended up having dinner at the Mexican restaurant in Epcot instead).

Happy Birthday!!! I am also going to Disneyland in July to celebrate my 40th!!! I am going to eat at the Blue Bayou for my birthday. I have only been one time to the Blue Bayou and I was a little girl at the time. It is something I have wanted to do every trip but I just can never justify the cost. I figured I would splurge for my 40th! I can't wait to eat in Pirates and watch the boats go by. Have a wonderful birthday whatever you decide to do!

A cute little thing to do in Disneyland on your birthday is to ride the Birthday Rides: Haunted Mansion, Winnie the Pooh and Alice in Wonderland (that one may still be down for refurb). All of those rides have scenes that depict a birthday!

That's so cute! We are going on my 45th b day this July and I'm definitely writing these three down for that day! :)

I've spent my 40th and 42nd birthdays at DL, it is a wonderful place to celebrate!

If you can arrange it, I would ditch the kids and absolutely go to Napa Rose! :)

I too celebrated my 40th at DLR. We made the entire 5 days there a celebration, but on my actual birthday we dropped the kids at Pinocchio's Workshop and the adults enjoyed a fantastic meal at Napa Rose. Just an idea for your party - perhaps the adults can enjoy the restaurant section of Napa Rose and the Teenagers can eat in the lounge section? I seem to remember them having some items on the menu that should appeal to teens.

I can also recommend a visit to Blue Bayou, the meal was only slightly above average but the ambience was worth it.

We also got cupcakes from Downtown Disney to mark the occasion with the kids, very yummy and easier to organize than a big cake.

Have fun and enjoy your 40th :dance3:
