This was a trip for my 40th Birthday on the 3rd January 2006. OMG…am I really that old…..surely not….I demand a recount.

Day 2 was our first full hit at the parks and **cough cough** it was my birthday!!! I will get over the fact I am 40 one day, but I am not sure. After opening a collection of cards and pressies, we headed down to the Captain’s Quarters for breakfast.

This room is a bar in the evenings, but they turn it into a breakfast room in the morning for people who are using suites or staying a very long time!!! You get much more personal service than in the main breakfast room, but the fare is exactly the same. It’s much quieter too, only 2 other groups in there.

The morning looked quite foggy and misty and it was only after heading outside that we realized how cold it was. Now I’m a Northerner, but even considering that and an enormous ‘orange’ anorak type the cold really cut through your face.

We got to the Magic Kingdom before opening time and the crowds looked very light. Last year I bought a minimum shareholding in DLP, which means as well as getting discounts in the shops and restaurants, we could also use Salon Mickey to enter the park. This is a small room tucked away in the far right hand corner of the entrance. You knock on the door and show your shareholders card and you are ushered in. They take your entrance tickets from you and sort out getting them validated, whilst you are shown into a room with chairs and sofas, a bust of Walt on the fireplace

and lots of cookies, muffins and drinks to help yourself to. It was lovely and warm too…….much better than waiting in the cold outside. Topped up with hot chocolate and muffins and took a few bottles of drink for later.

You leave Salon Mickey through another door and you are straight into the park.

We have learnt from experience that if you want to do certain rides you have to do them first. So because DS still loves it we headed straight for Dumbo. We didn’t need to worry about any of the bigger rides, as we had our VIP Fast Pass.

We were on the first ride on Dumbo and managed to ride it twice, before any kind of queue built up. But….OMG…….it gets even colder when spinning round on an elephant through the biting Parisian mist.

We then proceeded to do everything in Fantasyland, including Peter Pan, Snow White, Pinocchio, Tea Cups and It’s a Small World!!!!

I do have to say that we have done DLP so many times that novelty of any of these rides has well and truly worn off.

Spent the rest of the day going from ride to ride. Took my brother on Space Mountain Mission 2……which although has a faster launch, I didn’t think the effects inside were better than the first version. Still one of my favorite roller coasters and soooooo much better than the WDW version.

Had hot dogs for lunch as Casey’s Corner (almost a tradition for us). I think we rode every ride that day and managed to catch some of the parade. Now DLP has fake snow at set times on Main Street….but we didn’t need it as the real stuff as starting to fall.

Headed back to the Newport Bay for my birthday meal in the Yacht Club restaurant. Had some lovely seafood and steak and the kids enjoyed the special kids buffet. Now….its not my fault, but for some reason, nobody took any photos that evening…..Hey Ho……but I did get an ice cream Birthday Cake at the end of the meal with everyone singing Happy Birthday to me. (Shame I had to remind DW to organize it in the first place ;) )

We headed back to the Fisherman’s Wharf bar for a few more drinks and the kids did the make your own cocktail. DS didn’t quite get the top on right and we had to move places when most of his cocktail went all over the seats… Whoops.

Headed back to the room, only to find a bottle of Champagne on ice, with a note from the hotel manager, wishing me a Happy Birthday. Polished off the champers and headed off to bed.

Tomorrow…..Disney Studios, Buffalo Bills and Spectromagic.

What a fabulous birthday. A very very belated :bday: to you!!! And I can't believe you don't have any photos of your birthday meal but sometimes that happens, you are so busy enjoying yourselves that you forget!

What a lovely surprise, a bottle of champers in your room! :)

But….OMG…….it gets even colder when spinning round on an elephant through the biting Parisian mist.

:rotfl:

Ain't that the truth!!! Sounds like a great birthday apart from that!!

Even in spite of the cold you did great in the park.
Great photos even if you did not make the line up ;)

.... and a lovely surprise from the manager :)
