So last year DH turned 40 and I took him to WDW. In a couple of weeks it is my turn but there will be no trip! No matter, but I can't decide what to do. I kind of want something I will remember, and help me ease into this new decade but I can't think what. Anyone have any good, not too over the top ideas?

DW and I,when we hit the BIG 40,started to take on a new challenge.

Alittle history 1'st would help.We have been married for over 20yrs,all but 1 child is home.He is 17 so not much longer before he leaves the nest. But alot changes in 20yrs,so I convinced DW to start a martial art form we can do toghether. We started a class of Tai-Chi.It is a beautiful.Mind, body and self wrapped in one.Since we are closer, healthier and love each other more then ever!!

It might be over the top for some, yes. But the rewards are great I promise.

Well, I was going to suggest WDW but I see that is already done. I'm doing just that for my 40th in a few weeks. :rotfl:

I hope you get some better ideas.

We are going in MAy for DH's 40th (although his Birthday is in Feb) I always do really fun things with my girlfriends. I have a group of friends that we always take eachother out for dinner on our birthdays and special occassions.. how about making a girls night out plan.. plan your party yourself, that could be really fun!

I turn 40 in May, DBF turns 35 this Friday. :) For my 40th I want to go on a wine tasting tour with friends, complete with a limo so no one has to worry about driving. :) Seriously, that's what I want to do. It helps that Napa is 20 minutes away and our timeshare now has a property there (we bought for the Anaheim property but there is property in SF & Napa as well), so in theory we can stay at our timeshare over my bday and have the limo pick us up there. :) I really WANT to do that but it comes down to money. I still don't have a job so I'm not sure we can afford it but we are going to see if we can do it.
For DBF's we aren't doing a big deal, I'm taking him to Hooters for dinner and planning on having a bunch of friends meet us there, he isn't aware of the friends part but he will love it. I'm also thinking of taking him to the indoor cart racing place in town and we might make a run to Napa, we are out of some of our favorite wines so it might be fun to go get some more. :)

Do you have a Benihana or a similar restaurant in your area? Why not plan a fun day of shopping (all for you, obviously!!!), and then end the day at Benihana with a delicious meal and dessert!

Or maybe you can have a bunch of your friends and family over for a party? Get it catered, and end the night with a fancy cake and a champagne toast to your new decade?

I'm turning 40 in a few weeks and i'm sort of dreading it. A few years ago my girlfriend and I planned on taking a WDW trip for our mutual 40th birthdays, but my DH will be in Asia and my girlfriend is getting married, so no trip. January is a hard time to plan birthday parties since the weather can be so unpredictable, I certainly don't want to shell out $ if we're going to have a snowstorm.

I think a few of us, friends and family, will go out somewhere nice for dinner, and then in March for our anniversary DH and I may go to Miami for a weekend. I would love to go to NYC to Buddakan or Carmine's, but Benihana would be lots of fun too.

Happy Birthday fellow "child of the 80's".... :lmao: :goodvibes

For my 40th birthday (almost 6 years ago) :) I told DH I wanted a party with all my friends & family. It was great! I made the invites (used a picture of me at age 2 blowing out a birthday candle). We had lots of food and drinks. Several of my high school pals (that I hadn't seen since HS) came which was really cool! We had about 40 people at our house that day. We even wore party hats! It was a blast.

I told DH for my 50th I wanted a party and a new car. :) We'll see! :rotfl:

I had my 40th birthday last month. My hubby and bff conspired to throw me an amazing surprise party complete with live band. Maybe your DH is planning a surprise?

We don't have one but I like your idea! I would just need to find a restaurant that could take a large, crazy group!

I'm not much help for my 40th DH got me a man.
Okay I didn't get to keep him, he is a guitar player / singer friend of ours who performs in Hilton Head DH hired him to come play at my party. When I walked in he was playing one of my favorite songs which he had just learned for me that afternoon !

For DH's 40 I rented a cottage in Key West for two weeks, along with a scooter, we didn't even have a car. It's been our best vacation ever !

I like the idea a pp had about having people over and having the meal catered, catering might be cheaper than you think, with a fancy cake and champagne after dinner. You could do a fun theme, you know going back to your childhood, do a Disney theme, or Birthday hats, and games. OR since it's winter go totally out of season and do a Luau theme.
This year I did an unBirthday Tea Party with odd foods, a mixtue of regular and vinegar potato chips in a hat box, animal cackers in a dog food bowl, a big punch bowl full of cheese balls..... you get the idea. It was a ton of fun to come up with.
