40% or Free Dining... which is a better deal?

We have a 40% off PIN but understand that free dining should be annouced Monday.

If we stay at a deluxe, what ends up being a better deal? The 40% PIN or free dining?

Anyone know?

We are using the 40% PIN for our deluxe stay. With the 40% off, we're saving just over $200 a night. That is way more than free dining for 2 adults and 2 children. You just have to price out a room only stay at the hotel (and room category) you want, and figure out with the rate would be with 40% off. Then compare if it is more or less than the cost of the dining plan for all the members of your family.

Would you get the dining plan if you did the 40% off? How many people are going? If you would get the dining plan then it's pretty easy to calculate if 40% off the nightly room rate is more or less than the nightly cost of the dining plan.

40% off is a better deal for DELUXE resorts........FREE DINING is a better deal at the VALUE RESORTS (in most cases)!

Probably. The dining plan is $37.99 per adult and $9.99 per child 3-9. Assuming the kids are 9 and under that's $95.96 per night. If the pre-discount room rate is more than $240 per night (40% of $240 is $96) then the 40% discount is the better deal.

Oh to get a 40% PIN. I have signed up for every Disney email you can, did a survey in the park last time we were there, and even did a few surveys on line, but just can't seem to get one of these.

If it applies to everything in your package it is definitely a fabulous deal. Oh well, I can survive with just getting Free Dining.

Unfortunately, the 40% only applies to the room rate, not your tickets or dining if you make it a package. Still a great deal though.

At a deluxe, the 40% off pin works out to a better deal most of the time, but run the numbers for your situation, just to make sure. It's 40% off only the room, but that's a substantial savings on a deluxe

Here's our situation for comparison:

~ 2 adults, 1 junior (10yo) and 1 child (7yo)
~ staying at ASMu (value) for 7 nights

With our 40% off pin, we'd save about US$300 for the whole stay
With FD, we'd save about US$130 PER DAY for our family (3 x $39.99/day + 1 x $9.99/day). No brainer decision for us

I don't know about your 40% pin, but my 40% pin has an expiry date of the end of March for booking. If you're going to use it, use it before it expires!
