We are currently holding a 40% Discount at the Pop if an offer comes up for Free Dining for our dates should we opt for the Free Dining.

There will be 4 of us travelling 2 Adults and 2 Children aged 14 and 12.

Thanks

Last year, when I pulled numbers for us as a family of three, the 40% off was a better deal. May I ask how many nights, etc, you'll be staying?

The dining plan is $39.99 per day, per person so it saves your family $160.00 per day, more than the 40% discount per day you are getting at the Pop.

If it comes out, go with that!

Sandisw, you're right. I was totally forgetting that the op's kids would be charged as adults.

For your fam. free dining is a much better deal.

It all depends on the amount of people, and the resort. I have a split ressie at POP and ALk so if free dining comes out I will apply it to my pop ressie ony and pay oop for the days I am at AKL.

If we decide to go for Free Dining then that means we will need to get atleast one day's worth of tickets? right??

:thumbsup2

Well, I am pretty sure you will have to get a Magic Your Way plus dining package for as many days you will want to have free dining. IE; you can not get a one day park pass and get 5 days of free dining because you are staying 5 nights at a resort. That defeats the whole purpose of what disney is doing. They want you to go to the park 5 days and then give you 5 days of free dining. I could be wrong, but I think Disney is smarter than that. I have never gotten free dining so I really am not 100% positive.:thumbsup2

Actually, I believe you're right. You only need to buy tickets for one day. At least that's how it worked a few years ago. Book within the time restriction at a Disney resort and you'll get the free dining for the length of your stay. Call to be sure, but that's how it used to be.

If you want to stay at POP go with free dining. If you're thinking of upgrading resorts the 40% will be a better option.

I asked this question about a week ago and stated that I didn't know what free dining entails so please give details - wasn't offered much back. Nobody said it was for $40 a day per adult. Would have been nice to have known that. I also asked if there was a FAQ for free dining..nobody posted :-( One nice person posted a good deal of info about the points - but I also wanted to know the daily value..so if it's just me and DH, we'd be allowed $80 a day total?

First let me say that in the past you only need one day park tickets for everyone in the room over 3 and if you already have a annual pass or something you can always save that one day ticket and use it towards another one.

Now the dining plan is about 39.99 per day per adult, and I think around 11.99for children. So for just you and your DH you would be paying about $80 for the plan per night. You get one table service, one counter service and one snack each per day. You can spend more than $80, just depends on how much your meals come out to be.

In the past me and my DH have spent aound $100 for dinner alone, not including our lunch wich averaged around $25, and snacks about $7, so its a great deal.

Now in the OPs case pop only costs about $80 per night and with the 40% off it comes to be about $49 or so. Because her kids all need the adult plan it would cost about $160 per day. Now a $160 savings from the dining plan is far better than a 30-40$ savings per night with the 40% code at a value.

We're staying at CSR and with the 40% off, it comes to about $100 a night for each 7 nights and we're paying regular value for the other 3 ($170 per night).

I'm assuming based on what you guys have said, that the free dining for me and DH for 9 nights would be a savings of approx. $766 when you add the 6.5% FL food tax. With the 40% Pin rate, we're saving $490 for the base resort rate - plus saving the tax on top of that for a total savings right now of $551 *since hotel rates are at the 12.5 percent tax rate* Does that look correct?

Hope to see free dining. If we have the 40% pin rate, can you get free dining if they offer it to Disney Visa card holders added. I read that only one discount, but it would be a Disney Visa discount so I hoped it could be added to a Pin discount.

If I can get a free dining plan of over $550 it would be better - but only if it's more than what I'm saving for the 40% pin rate. I guess it's unlikely that a 9 day free dining plan for two adults would come to that amount, right?

Free dining for 8 nights (it goes by night not day)would save you $640 for the two of you, so its a better deal.

For 10 nights it would save you $800

Yep, see my corrected post..I was figuring up for one person I guess = Oh, and I added a question about the Disney Visa free dining as well.

There is no daily value placed on the dining plan. $39.99 per adult per night is what disney charges you to participate in the DDP. This entitles you to one snack, one counter service and one table service per night.
Snack= one individual serving of an item. (ice cream bar, popcorn etc....)
CS= 1 drink, 1 burger/fries, 1 dessert
TS= 1 drink, 1 entree, 1 dessert
Depending on what you order will decide on whether or not you actually spend the $40.00 you shelled out for the DDP. In most cases you at least break even.
So for example:

Snack= 1 mickey head ice cream $2.50

1 CS= Cosmic Rays -1 bottle water $2.50, Burger w/fries 7.59, choc cake $3.59. Total Approx $13.00

1 TS=Tony Town Square- 1 drink $2.50, Pork Tenderloin Entree $18.99, Lemon Cake $5.49. Total Approx $27.00

Total for Day approx= $2.50+ 13.00+ 27.00= $43.00

Hopes this helps a little.:thumbsup2

I used it with our airline employee discount earlier this week for 2 weeks in August.

No, you can still only use one or the other. That would be nice if they would let us do that.
