I have read that I can get both the 40% discount on the room (I have my ressies for December) AND still get the DP. :scratchin

Is that true? I am assuming that I also have to buy a one day ticket for each of us for over $70 apiece to make this a 'package". It would be $142.72 for the tickets and then about $789.00 for the DP for us both. Is there any cheaper way to do this? I know I can apply the one day tickets toward an AP but we have 4 from other trips and have been told that you can only use one ticket toward each upgrade. :confused3

If this is true can one of you DP experts explain to me why this would or would not be a good deal for us? :teacher:

The free dining last summer was too much food for us but hot weather does not make me hungry while the cooler temps just might.:santa: '

You can't get the package with dining without buying at least a one day base ticket. Last summer we rented DVC points and had the owner add the dining plan. We paid for the plan on check in. We were traveling with 6 adults so plan for the week cost somewhere around 1000. We ended up paying a little more than 2 rooms at a mod with free dining and had a 2 bedroom villa at the Boardwalk:)

I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will respond, but I am pretty sure that you can't add on the dining plan if you've gotten the 40% discount. If you decide to convert your reservation to Disney package, and add DDP, you will be paying the normal cost for the rooms. Basically when you add on DDP, you are getting your food at a pretty significant discount and I can't see them letting you keep your 40% discount AND have the DDP all at the same time.

Sometimes discount codes will come out for packages and some of those you CAN apply.

There are 2 different discounts, one is 40%off room only, the other is a package that gives you 40% off the room but you pay the regular price for the dining and ticket part. They have 2 different codes.

Does anyone know if I can wait until closer to time to add the DP IF it is allowed?

With a room only it is a liberal cancellation period but a package is a lot more complicated. We have health issues and do not want to add insurance to our costs.

We are retired and must stretch each penny to its utmost as we have more time than money and it costs a lot of money to have so much fun. :joker:

Thanks for all the opinions. I learn so much here and try to share the magic where I can too.

room only disc, have 5 days out. Package 6-45 days out is 100.00 cancellation fee. Less than 5 days 200.00. I don't know how close you can wait to add plan, this is my strategy also.

Not sure what you mean by the comment I put in bold. I booked the 40% discount off my room and purchased 5MYW base tickets as part of the package (regular rate). I didn't add dining but was told I could by 3/15 (please keep in mind, people are being told all sorts of things by the CM's, so don't take anything I'm saying as gospel). If I added dining, I would be getting 40% off room, full price tickets and full price dining for each member of my party.

Packages include room plus tickets and possibly dining and have a 45 day cancellation policy.

Free dining would have been a better deal for us by about $350.00, but we can't go during what would be the free dining promotion time this year...We are 2A 3C - 15,14,10 - the amount of kids (WDW Adults) makes a big difference!

Hope this helps!

5DisneyNuts,we went for 3 weeks for the free dining in Sept/Oct and had to buy 4 one day tickets, 2 each for each ten day ressie for the deal to count as a 'package' and I will be using two of those tickets toward our next AP's but at this rate, if I have to buy more one day tickets we will be a 100 years old before we use all of them and the one day tickets are kind of expensive. ::yes:: It is accepted that you can only turn in one ticket toward each upgrade.

bonzarella, I am thinking that our strategy might not work this time as we have to book by March 15th. What do you think since you seem to know more about this than I? The only time we ever had the DP was the free one this past year. Kind of spoiled us though. Disney knows what it is doing. :rotfl: Maybe we could share a ride as I note that you are from IN also. I live near Columbus. :cool1:

Hi Slightly Goofy:wave2: I agree 100%, disney knows exactly what they are doing:laughing: . I'd have to think your party would eat at least one 70.00 TS everyday. You know your lifestyle the best though. I've done the #'s game and it is still a benefit to us to use DDP. Only scenario I could think of was to buy multi day(4/5/4 etc..) using upgrade from the 1 day. We are AP holders so I've never really looked at day by day ticket cost. We are taking a short trip on Feb 28-Mar 4. I did room only-40% & not sure about package. It works out in the end but I can't get past those tickets laying around:confused3
BWT-we are in Starke County. Nice to meet you fellow Hoosier & Disser:hyper:

Yup, now I understand...I still have old park hoppers laying around with water parks on them and that makes me crazy enough!

Hello Hoosiers!!!! Just saying hi from Elkhart County!

I lived in Elkhart Co almost my entire life. :wave2: (My mother lives in the town you are in.)
The DDP can be added to a package within 3 days of check in. popcorn::

Go Colts!!!! Heck, I am not even a sports fan but gotta root for the 'home' team even if they do pack up a moving van right afterward. (grin)

bonzarella, I am not sure I understand what you mean by the multi day tickets if you already have AP's? I just got the one day ticket as it was the easiest and cheapest and I am just going to upgrade it this year anyway. Would not have been so bad but I had to do 4 tickets as we had to have TWO ressies for the 20 days. My brain does not work well mornings. (or any other time but we shall not get into that right now). :dance3:

5DisneyNuts, Disney knows that those old tickets will call to us late at night and make us feel that we MUST get back ASAP, even if we buy new tickets instead of using the old ones. Of course then we usually end up with more 'voices' if we end up with more days remaining. That is why they will not allow us to use more than one old ticket to 'upgrade". :cool1:

Am I the only one to think that all these phone calls, several from each person often, are driving the CRO crazy and they well may melt down and lose ALL our ressies? WE blame them and they blame US and it is all Disney's fault for making it too darned complicated in the first place. I think CRO all deserve a paid vacation day to rest up and we all deserve Free Dining. JMO.

What impact do you think the 40% code is having on the chances of Disney offering the free dining this fall? I am afraid that this is in place of free dining.

Any thoughts??

As I mentioned in the FAQ thread, my guess is that free dining will be offered to the public in a more limited way this year, if at all.

Hey Goof! It's cold here too :cold: At least you have the Colts to take your mind off things...Giants = :crazy2:

:lmao: :lmao:
Yes, the hoppers are talking! That's why I keep going back!! This should be a Twlight Zone eposide..

Take a look at the codes and rates boards..I'm sure the CM are as :dance3:
as we are...

Would love to see Free Dining - much less controversy - and that's sayin something :scratchin

5DisneyNuts, I hear you!! We have so much fun on the Boards most of the time and it is getting a little bit wild around here now.

It reminds me of when ALL my grandkids are here at the same time and there is only one toy that they ALL want to play with. :rotfl2:

My heart :flower3: goes out to the poor CM's who have to reassure people over and over again because they have been scared to death by some reports.

I never believe anything I read and only half of what I personally see myself. :scratchin

This too shall pass and PLEASE may it be soon!! :grouphug:

Keep warm, spring is coming (no matter what some people might say). :cheer2:

I would never purchase tickets on eBay. There is no way to verify that they are still valid (still have any days left of them) until you're physically at WDW.
