We are taking our DD in May for 10 days. She is quite a little thrill seeker and is just threads below 40 inches and in the midst of a growth spurt. She is determined to ride splash mountain. As much as she loves speed, she is terribly afraid of "bad guys". Can someone help me out with what rides to let her try and what to avoid with that temperment? Thanks

Big Thunder Mountain. It will keep the blood pumping without anyone getting hurt.

Yes, Thunder Mountain is all ride....no bad guys. Splash Mountain is pretty tame. The only part she may get a little scared is the last few feet before you go up for the big drop. It shows Briar Rabbit caught by the Fox and some "scary" looking birds looking at you. But its really not bad at all.

I have a 4 year old 41 inch thrill seeker myself who is afraid of scary things. She LOVED Big Thunder Mt. She did ride Splash Mountain. She was a little scared of all of the darkness. She made it through and wanted to ride again. She also loved Test Track in Epcot. I couldn't drag her on Tower of Terror even if I bribed her! The name and theme scares her to death! Actually, my DD loves the Barnstormer. It's short and zippy, but enough speed that she is happy. We were a bit nervous with her riding Big Thunder Mt. My DH had a steel grip on her the entire time!

My DD 3 is also a thrill seeker and this year really wants to ride Splash Mountain. However, without shoes she is right at 39 inches. With just 3 months to go I'm not sure she'll make it. Are the height requirements adjusted for shoes? I would never try to "cheat" the height requirements with shoes but since we are so borderline I was just wondering. Thanks!

My daughter is a big time thrill seeker.....she loves Big Thunder Mtn. (rode it 3 times in a row last time), Goofy's barnstormer is a great ride too! She would do TOT if we let her. She also cried because she could not go on EE, was 1 inch too short. She is tall enough for space mtn, but we don't let her go because she can't sit next either me or my DH.

What is the seating like on the Space Mtn ride? I'm bringing my grandchildren in May and the 8, 5, & 4 year old all have talked about wanting to ride that one. I wouldn't be comfortable if they couldn't ride next to one of the adults in our group. :scared1:

To the OP- I would probably skip pirates since it has a small drop but lots of "bad" pirates- this ride was not one of my middle sons favorates because he thought the priates were trying to "shoot" our boat.

My oldest has been a speed demon since he found out how to crawl! He rode Space Mtn. when he was 4 years old- I don't know what weight he was then but he was tall enough- he's always been small for his age- he only weighs in at 74 lbs at 12 years old now. I don't let him ride some rides yet because even though he is plenty tall enough, he weighs so little that I'm worried that he may slip out from under the restraints like on floor less coasters for example.

In the SM "rockets/cars" each person has their own seat- you can't ride together side by side but sit one behind the other but each person has their own seat and lap bar- it closes very snug-I put my DS in the seat in front of me and I made sure that ***"I"*** was satisfied with the bar fit- he was as snug as a bug in a rug :grouphug:

He loved it and still does- I on the other hand, tried to hold onto him ( I know that I couldn't hold him in if there was a problem but it just made me feel better to touch him :rolleyes1 ) by placing my hand on his shoulder over the seat top- bad choice- I came up a bit on a drop and came down on my ribs some how- I still can't figure it out yet today, and I was bruised for days- it hurt to breath. He had a blast. :thumbsup2 :woohoo:

AVOID The Great Movie Ride, my DD6 (almost 7 at the time) loves thrills, did her first FIG coaster summer of 2005 and couldn't get enough...loved the thrill rides (the ones we let her on, not TestTRack yet) at WDW. I never thought about the Great MOvie Ride being a bad idea for her, but she was shaking, terrified actually of the "bad" guy---he was right in front of us in the car and saw how terrified she was he "broke" his character and said quietly in a nice voice to her that is was only pretend....she was still shaking but not so badly.
Have a great time!

My DD will be 4 by the time we go and she's a thrill seeker too. I think she'll hit 40" by then.

Anyhow does anyone have suggestions as to which ride to go on first? Is there a smaller roller coaster to get her on before Thunder Mountain? She does the carnival rides with no problems or fear, but we all know Disney is so much different!

Starting with Goofy's Barnstormer for a 4 yr old is a good idea....I took DD6 on it AFTER she had already done Big Thunder and Space Mtn.....she called it "lame"....but still wanted to go around again, "since it was so short". I think she'd have appreciated it more if she had done it first!

I'm also the mom of a now 4 year old thrill seeker. She was 40" on our first trip at not quite 3. She rode Splash Mountain 3 times in a row and loved it! She did the Barnstormer for 45 minutes straight with her brother and cousin, they'd get off and run back on.

She also loves Test Track, Big Thunder Mountain Rail Road, Soarin'(at Disneyland), if she's big enough she'll go on it at least once!

She was beyond mad when she couldn't go on some of the bigger coasters, we'll see how she feels about it next year!
