4 year old and TOT

Thanks for everyone's advice!! It was really helpful. I will definatly bring him on the other rides first (Splash, Thunder, etc) before even going near ToT.
I will report how it went when we get back... Another ?--Does anyone know the height requirement for Space Mountain? I have seen both 40" and 44", so I am a bit confused, since this does make a difference if DS can get on it.

Thanks!

Jen

I'm pretty sure that it is 44" because our DD who was 40" could not ride Space Mountain but our DS who was 44 1/2" rode it twice in the very front car and LOVED it.

Yes, Space Mountain is 44". DD4 was very disappointed that she was too short for that one and RnRC. She's got a long way to go for that one - 48".

My ds rode it for the first time at 3 yrs (2 months shy of his 4th b-day). He wasnt scared. You really dont know how the kid will like it til they give it a try. If you child wants to ride then let them and if not maybe sometime in the future they will be ready.

My son rode this at age 4 and LOVED it----DH, on the other hand, was GREEN.

I would be sure he knows what to expect, and work your way up to that ride. Our DS had already done two days at MK, including POC, HM, BTMRR, and SM.

Our 5 yr old son was curious, but didn't really want to ride. We described it as a larger, dark "frog hopper" ride. The frog hopper is a a kiddy ride that he loves to ride with the same motions as the TOT. He went all the way through the pre show and then started to get upset and just about cry.

If I was in the original posters shoes, I would ask my child about 3 or 4 times during the pre show and waiting time, if he was completely sure that he wanted to ride. If so, then let him ride!

When it comes to any ride, for me, the big key is if the child wants to ride, and height restrictions allow for it, then by all means let the child ride. And more importantly, if the child obviously doesn't want to ride something (even a kiddy ride), don't try to force the issue or convince the child to ride! A little gentle re-assurance is OK, but beyond that, it is should be child's choice!
