4 nights ASMv vs 1 night Yacht Club?

We have a trip planned the end of June/start of July for two weeks at Silver Lake Resort. Flights recently dropped so we are going down 4 nights early. The dilemma is do we stay at All Star Movies for the 4 nights or stay 3 nights off site in a condo and move to Yacht Club for a night for Stormalong Bay? There will be DH, DMIL, DSIL, two kids (12 & 11), and myself, and we will have a rental minivan. DH, kids, and myself have stayed at Beach Club before and loved Stormalong Bay! We also stayed at Pop twice before and did not love it so much, but it would be nice to have Magic Express handle the luggage from the airport plus the Pandora extra magic hours. DMIL and DSIL have never stayed on property. DMIL uses a scooter and has some mobility issues. Since it will be hot, we will be spending a lot of time in the afternoon in the pool. Both options are the same price roughly. Is Stormalong worth moving for a night to have access for two days? Or is All Star Movies not that bad to make the perks worth it?

All Star Movies will be much like staying at POP. If you didn't enjoy POP, i would be concerned about staying there.

I would rather stay at WDW then move the second time, however, for just one night at the YC.

Is there any chance that you could swing a moderate? POR is lovely, with a nice pool for the kids to enjoy. Obviously not as good as Storm Along Bay. You could ride the boat to DS while there as well. The AB section would be nicely shaded from the heat by the foliage. Apparently there is an Orbitz discount of an additional 15% that can be taken off at POR in June

Have a look at the June discounts under 'Disney Discounts Codes and rates' above here.

We will check out the Orbitz discount. We looked at POR, but it was double the cost. Is there a special code for the Orbitz discount?

I read that the code is EXPLOREMORE. If you read the posts in the June Discounts thread you will get lots more information. It is at the top of this Resorts forum here on the DIS.

Sorry, I am hopeless with computers and don't know how to post a link.

Good luck!

Thanks! I found it. It drops the price, but it's still quite a bit more than our other options. If we were only going a few days, we would pay it, but since this is an add on to a two week vacation, DH is pulling the purse strings lol.

So you are thinking 2 rooms at AsMO for 4 nights vs. 2 rooms YC for 1 night to, mainly, get onsite perks? Have you priced out an AoA or AsMu family suite or a Ft. W cabin to see if that helps with pricing at all? I don't think it's worth going to YC for 1 night and then moving again.

Fair enough.

Then i guess you have to decide between the offsite condo 3 nights + 1 night YC OR 4 nights at ASMo. Then move to Silver Lake resort for 2 weeks. Hmmm.

When you say you didn't love POP so much, was it just less than the BC? (perfectly understandable - deluxe vs value). Or did you just not like POP? Period.

You have a good idea yourself about what you are choosing between, because POP and ASMo are relatively comparable and the YC/BC are just two parts of essentially the same resort.

How do you feel about the extra move for one night? If you spend most of both arrival day and departure day at the YC, is it worth the time spent moving?

If it were me, I wouldn't feel very settled until I arrived at the Silver Lake resort. But then, that is how I handle moving, and I don't mind that at all.We could do the extra move, but it would mean having a bag prepacked just for the YC OR living out of our packing cubes/suitcases while at the condo. (for us, I mean)

My choice would be to stay at ASMo for the 4 nights then move to the Silver Lake resort. But my circumstances are very different from yours. I happen to like the value resorts just fine (POP is our favourite value). I prefer deluxe for obvious reasons, but we often choose to stay value or moderate for reasons just like yours.

I do like split stays very much. But i try to keep to a minimum of three nights per resort whenever possible.

Good luck choosing! Sorry that I couldn't be any more help.

Thanks for the input. We tried Pop in Sept 2012 and gave it a second shot in May 2013. Both times our rooms were dirty (not just a bit, but moldly food in the fridge, enough mold around the shower head that it could be wiped with a washcloth, used bathroom trash still in the room, etc) and we didn't find the staff very friendly. Walking through the resort, it was like they avoided eye contact and if we smiled and said good morning, they would just look at us and not say anything. It felt like a Motel 6 with Disney decor and disgruntled employees.

I realize the amenities will be different (we have stayed at AoA as well as other "values" off site), as long as the room is reasonably clean, I'm fine. Friends of ours have stayed at ASMv before and enjoyed it. Moving isn't a big deal as I won't be settled till we are at Silver Lake and will live out of a prepackaged bag.

But when really looking at the benefits, it seems like we will probably stay at ASMv due to the ease, Magic Express, and extra magic hours. The Expedia discount dropped the price about $100 so that helps with the choice too. Thanks for all the input!

We did price them out, and they were in the running initially, but they were tossed mainly due to the bed situation. The cabin has a queen, set of bunks, and a pullout. AoA and ASMu has the two double beds and pull out (and is more than the two rooms at ASMv). I don't feel right asking DMIL to sleep on a pullout and as we are footing most of the bill, I'm not sleeping on one lol. We found out on another trip that DSIL is a loud snorer and so sharing a bedroom is out. Thanks for the ideas though!

Wow, sorry to hear about your problems at POP. We have always had clean rooms and good service there. Lucky, I guess.

Sounds like you made a good choice for this trip! ASMo will get you all the onsite benefits and it is a nice resort. We have always enjoyed our stays there. Hope that you do as well.

Glad that the Expedia discount helped. Enjoy your extra 4 days!

Thanks! I went to book this evening (we have been on the road all day so I was going to book when I got home) and prices had went up quite a bit on Expedia and ASMo is now sold out through Disney. Lol such is the luck of the indecisive! But All Star Sports was still open, so I went ahead and booked that. No one is into sports, but hey, it will be fine, and we will keep our eye out for Movies to open up. Does that happen often? I didn't realize they would sell out in the few days the discount has been out.

Too bad you didn't get your first choice right away. However, on the up side...
People change/cancel reservations all the time. If you keep looking, you might get lucky and find an opening. Honestly, though, we have stayed at Sports and it is fine. The movies theme is just the icons around the resort. We are not Sports people either, but I like the Sports layout for the buildings and, if you share buses, Sports is the first on, first off stop.

So, if you do end up at Sports, it isn't all bad.

Enjoy your trip!

Honestly, Sports isn't looking that bad. I read that when they share buses, it's the first on and first off.
