We're planning on cruising mid-June to early-July 2005. We've only ever previously been on a 4 night cruise (DCL Wonder). My parents are thinking we should just go on a 4 night, incase the weather is bad, they won't be stuck on the ship too long. But, I'd really love a 7 night. What are the advantages and disadvantages? Anyway to 'talk the 7 day up'? What do you think?

We've done both the 4 night in July and the 7 night this past June. I love the 7 night, just because it's longer! Both are great though. I wouldn't worry about the weather as much during June and early July. Even though it's hurricane season, it's not the height of the season yet. The weather is hot on both of the cruises. Hey, you can't go wrong picking any DCL cruise!

We are DVC members with our home being Vero Beach. Will NEVER NEVER go back there. We're spoiled living on the Gulf side of Florida and would pick a 7 day cruise which is inclusive of all meals.

I think the reason your parents mentioned is the precise reason to do the 7 day cruise. If the weather is bad one day, you will be in a different location the next day. The ship can manuver better than a hotel.
I have not done the shorter cruise on Disney, just the 7 day, but I have done a shorter cruise on another line and just as you get to know your way around the ship, it's time to come home. Since you have already experienced the 4 day, why not try out the 7 to experience different things.
Personally, I like the eastern over the western. I love St. Maarten and St. Thomas for the beaches and snorkeling. My DW tells me the shopping is great. I don't know.
Have a great trip whatever you decide.:earsboy:

The question is 7 day Eastern or Western? Do you prefer days at sea, or exploring the ports/beaches. DW prefers cruises with more ports, I prefer sea days...We're doing the Western again (with more ports).

I voted for 7-day Eastern. I have done both 7-days and prefer the Eastern for the extra day at sea. Whatever you choose you'll have a great time! :D

Would pick 7 days over 4 any time of the year. Its more relaxing. And if you have bad weather, there is much more to do inside on a ship than most resorts.

I like the longer trip because you never want to leave but at least on the 7 day you have more time to explore everything on the ship. Western wins over the Eastern because even though you have an extra day at sea, the weather for us wasn't too good ( too windy, then too rainy) so we only really had one good day at sea. Our Western cruise was like traveling through bath water it was so calm.
