1. how soon after down payment can i attempt to book a trip?
2. how much of a down pament do you have to put down? 10% i thought i read somewhere? (i am planning on purchasing the minimum 160 pts with the added bonus of 100 developer points).
3. can i use all 160 points and 100 developer points on my first trip?
4. what are the financing options?

When they have all of your paperwork and contract signed you should be able to book within a day or so.

Well it depends on your credit but 10% is the least

Yes you can but your 100 developer points can only be booked 7 months out

I know you can finance 1 year with 50% down
We did 10 year with 10% down when we purchased.

Congrats on your decision DVC is a Wonderful thing.

Actually if you finance for one year (50% down) you get 4.95%.

Your incentive count toward your downpayment so if you buy AKV @ $104 and you wanted to put down 50% the $8 incentive is put toward your downpayment so $52 - $8 = $44 you would need to put down.

We just bought 225 points on February 7 and my mom added another 75 point into our account last Friday.

You have to put at least 10% down, but you can put down more than that if you want.

You can use all points on your first trip as long as it is at the 7 month window. The 160 can be booked 11 months in advance (they also could be banked into 2008 if you needed them to be). However, the 100 Developer's points cannot be booked more than 7 months out. But if booking at 7 months or less, you can use them all at once.

I was told by MS that Developer's points can't be waitlisted. They also can't be banked.

We booked a 3 night cruise with our Developer's Points.

We paid about 40% down and finance the rest with DVC at 10.??? interest for 10 years. I don't know the other options.

Good luck. We love it and haven't even been yet!!

I was able to access my account and book/bank shortly after giving my initial $500 "get things rolling" deposit. I paid the rest at closing a couple months later. DVC and my guide were completely accomodating and flexible.

I don't know why anyone would ever do this, but...

You can actually sign up with less than 10% down, you can do as little as $500. The balance of the 10% is then due within thirty days. At least for add-ons, anyway.

The reason why I don't see anyone doing it is, you don't get the incentives unless you put at least 10% down right away, so the thirty day thing seems kind of useless to me.

thanks for the replies. i was under the impression that if i bought today and then tried to book a trip, i would have to wait 7 months to use the developer points but now i'm not so sure by a couple of the posts.

i have a trip planned for july 2008 that i wished i had discovered DVC for before. is it too late to buy now and book for july? in know that there may not be anything available but am i able to book for 4-5 months away?

Well we booked just this week for June and got SSR.
You would be able to use your developer points now if you are wanting to use them for July.I would just tell the guide you are talking to that you want a ressie for July and I bet they can make it happen.
Also the developer points can only be booked 7 months out not you have to wait 7 months to book with them then.

1 - ask your guide - sometimes immediately.
2 - put down 20% because got better interest rates
3 - you can definitely use your 160 & 100 Dp on your first trip if you want too
4 - don't know the current interest rates - but you can pay for 1, 3, 5, 7 or 10 years.

If you got, for example, developer's points today, then you could use those points right away to book a vacation from 0 to 7 months out from today.

Hi, Candice - When people talk about "7 months", they mean 7 months in advance of your vacation, not that you must wait 7 months from the day you receive the developer points to use them. If you are planning a July 2008 trip, you can book it beginning December 1, 2007 (last December) for a reservation the night of July 1, because December 1 is 7 months in advance of your first check in day. So now, in late February/early March, you can book any vacation you want to take in the next 7 months, and your July trip falls into that timeframe, so you can book it as soon as you are in the system. You can use all the points you have plus the developer's points.

If you want to book a vacation at your home resort, you can do that 11 months in advance. At 7 months, you can book at any DVC resort.

I made a reservation the minute I was done signing my papers.
Booked and had a confirmation #
