Day 3: Shopping, afternoon tea and MNSSHP
We got a bit of a late start, because the gals like to sleep in I am now accustomed to waking early, thanks to my kids! We ate breakfast on Ms back patio, then headed for Target to get some shopping done. Everything is so expensive in Barbados, and we have such little variety compared to the U.S., so we were shopping for lots of pretty basic things.
We had PS at 2.10 at the Garden View Lounge at GF for afternoon tea - being from a British Colony, we all love tea! We parked at the TTC and took the monorail to the GF. We were running late, so had no time to explore any of the monorail hotels as we thought we might have done. We arrived at the tea around 2.30, and they had marked us down as no shows, but luckily they were still able to seat us.
Tea was divine! We each chose a different blend of tea, and we all enjoyed it. The sandwiches were yummy (if you like stuff like cucumber and watercress, soft cheese and nuts, egg salad etc., which we do). D was disappointed that there were no asparagus rolls. The scones were melt-in-your-mouth good, and the Devonshire Cream that they were served with is wonderfully rich and creamy, and perfect on scones! The jam tarts were nice, and the pastries they brought for dessert were terrific! M and I both had raspberry mousse in a choux pastry swan very fancy! I also had a great tiramisu mousse cup. D had a bowl of strawberries and cream the strawberries were sweet and juicy, nothing like what we get at home! We all got quite silly pretending to be hoity-toity it felt like we were schoolgirls again! We havent laughed like that together in a long time it was a definite highlight of the trip! The tea was really, really good, if youre into that sort of thing.
We monorailed it to MK and arrived shortly after 4 p.m., where we got our wristbands and bags for MNSSHP. We spent the rest of our daylight time exploring the scenery of the park, like the flowers around the castle, and Frontierland and Adventureland. We took the last train of the day around the MK to get a feel for it. While in Adventureland we saw that PoC had a short line when we passed by (10 min wait), so we rode that, even though we hadnt really planned to do the rides until later. I lined up for a short while to get a picture with Timon, my favourite character! He made kissing noises at me when he pulled me close for the photo! Rafiki was there too, and he stole my sunglasses off my face so I wouldnt have them on for the photo! Then he had to call me back for them cause I was so flustered Id forgotten hed nicked them! Gosh, you would think they were real movie stars or something!
At 6 p.m. when the park closed we were sipping coffee at a table near the bridge where Adventureland leads to the front of the castle. No-one came and herded us, and it was 6.15 when we got up and started walking. As we walked in front of the castle toward Tomorrowland we could see a CM pointing in that direction, but there was no real herding going on. We rode Buzz and SM (5 min waits), and at 7 we headed over to Fantasyland. We rode so much between 7 and 8 it was great! We popped over to Cosmic Rays to grab a quick bite, then went to see Mickeys Philharmagic (cute and funny) and ride Peter Pan. The wait at PP was 15 mins, but it seemed to take longer than that! I kept looking at my watch because I was sure wed miss the fireworks! We scrambled out of the ride into the little courtyard near the Carousel, and had 5 mins to spare before the fireworks started which were lovely, by the way! I loved when fireworks shot up from all around the edges of the park cool! Saw a quick green flash when the witch flew down, but thats all we could see from where we were. We found a couple of candy stops in this area and had dessert LOL!
After the fireworks we headed for Liberty Square to do HM, then found a spot for the 10 p.m. parade. Although it was the less crowded of the two, there were still a lot of people. Still, we got to see OK. The one part we didnt like was that we had to wait quite a while between the headless horseman and the actual parade Liberty Square and beyond (along the parade route) are not the places to be if you want to avoid this wait. More candy in LS - yum!
We followed the parade to Frontierland and did the mountains, which were surprisingly only 5 min waits each, considering the crowd heading that direction! D and K were a little afraid of the thrill rides, as they werent too accustomed to them. Splash had them freaking out because of the drop, but they were fine afterwards! They ribbed M and I incessantly about the fact that we closed our eyes after we started to drop (knowing that water would be splashing and that it was dark in the tunnel and therefore nothing to see anyway), but they had their eyes open the whole time and saw every bit of the huge drop! I guess that made it more scary for them, I dont know. We could have gone and done the rides again, and almost did in fact, but we had one more stop to make, and it was quickly approaching midnight. We needed to make it to Toontown, because Ds favourite character was Donald Duck, and she wanted to see him up close and personal! When we got to Donalds boat it was nearly midnight, and the line to greet him was very short (like 2 families!) we persuaded D and K to get their photo with Donald. One more candy stop and we were out of there! Exhausted but happy I think this was the favourite day for all of us! Didnt get home til nearly 1 a.m., then D and K were up for a while fiddling and fussing with their stuff, showers etc. etc. (they are a bit fussbudgety, truth be told, but I love them anyway
