A friend and I spent 5 nights in WDW (4 nights at ASSports, 1 night at BC). Another friend of mine is in the WDW College Program, so some of our meals were discounted. I'm also including descriptions of off-site restaurants that are worth mentioning. Also, we didn't have any PS's.

Day 1, arrival day:
We arrived late in the afternoon (and had a major glitch with Budget Car Rental, which I will rant about in the Trans board later!), so after checking in, we drove to Crossroads to get some water at Goodings. We noticed an Italian restaurant next door, Paesano's. They weren't very crowded, so we decided to give it a try, and it did not disappoint! The service and food were both very good. The garlic rolls are to die for! All entrees come with a salad. We both opted for the House vinaigarette which was great, almost like a lite Caesar dressing. My friend had the spaghetti with meat sauce, I had the veal picatta. There were 3 pieces of veal, and on the side was a bowl of bow tie pasta in marinara sauce. The veal was either $11.95 or $13.95 (can't remember) and the spaghetti was under $10. I would definitely return!

Day 2, shopping day at Florida Mall, Belz, Premium Outlet:
Breakfast -- we had breakfast at the ASSp food court. We both had the Mickey waffle with bacon. It was just under $6, and a small bottle of orange juice was around $1.69. They make the waffles fresh, and I thought the CMs here were just great, from the lady making the waffles, to the cashier. All very polite and friendly.

Dinner -- another off-site meal. We first went to the Red Lobster in Crossroads. They seated us and gave us menus, and that was it. No water, no "I'll be right with you", nothing. A large party seated after us was served immediately. So, we walked out. We instead went to TGIFridays. Now, I know that there are TGIFs everywhere, we have them in Hawaii too, but I thought this place was worth mentioning because the service here was great! Everyone here was very attentive, and the prime rib I ordered was just about the best I've ever had!

Day 3, MK and EPCOT:
Breakfast -- ASSp food court. I ordered the chocolate chip pancakes with bacon. Again, great servers here. They even asked if I wanted the child's portion, which was great, because I didn't really want 3 pancakes. A child's portion has 2, which was just right for me. It was also cheaper, less than $4. I didn't think they'd let an adult order a child's portion! My friend ordered the regular pancakes, which were premade and in a warmer. The chocolate chip pancakes are made as they're ordered.

Lunch -- France pavillion, Patisserie. I ordered the ham and cheese croissant, a Napoleon (a pastry puff with custard), and a bottled water, and it came out to almost $9 (the water alone was over $2, the pastries under $4 each). The croissant was great! I loved the cheese in it. The Napoleon was good, but a little too rich for my taste. The custard was VERY thick.

Dinner -- Norway pavillion, Akershus buffet. I've had lunch here twice, this was the first time I've had dinner, and it was great! $18.99 per person, desserts and drinks are ala carte. My CM friend ordered a drink called the Oslo, which was excellent!! We ordered two desserts, one was a Mickey sorcerer's hat with chocolate mousse, and the other was a pastry topped with fruits, both were excellent, and large enough to share (we couldn't finish!). I really love this buffet. I had tossed salad, rock shrimp salad (really good!), a couple different types of curred salmon, smoked fish, cold meats and cheeses, chicken and what I think was some kind of pasta, meatballs, venison (a little too gamey for me), potatoes (excellent!), and a bunch of other things I can't remember.

Day 4, relaxation day:
Lunch -- GF Cafe. We decided to sleep in and skip breakfast. We had an appointment for facials at the GF spa, so we decided to eat lunch at the GF Cafe, which was very good. However, we were in a rush to make our appointment, so we couldn't soak it in as much as we would've liked. My friend had the Caesar salad, and I had the Cobb salad, which I thought was excellent. It was served with avocado, bacon, ham, blue cheese, egg, and green onion. The cobb was $10.99, I think the Caesar was around $8.99. Very large, neither of us could finish.

Dinner -- ASSp Pizza Delivery. This was a plesant surprise. We decided to be lazy and stay in, plus we heard a crack of thunder and didn't feel like going out. We ordered the family pack #1 which consisted of a large (and boy is it large!) 4-topping pizza, 2 salads, and 2 drinks for $25.99. Including tax and delivery it was a little over $32. We thought it was a great deal, but we could've probably shared it with 1-2 more people! The pizza was humongous, and my friend only ate 1 slice (they slice it in 8ths), and I ate 1 1/2. The salads were very large and normally cost $2.49 (I think they're the same as in the food court). I asked for a coke and my friend ordered orange juice for the drink. I think the coke was a can, and the OJ was the same as the one in the food court. The only thing is when they delivered it, they wouldn't come in, so I had to try to hold the door open while he handed me the food and I had to stretch to put it down. I think they do this for safety reasons, and I guess a normal pizza delivery guy wouldn't step foot in your home, so this was a minor detail. I thought the pizza was pretty tasty.

Day 5, AK and MGM:
We checked out of ASSp and into BC, so we didn't really have breakfast. I ate a leftover slice of pizza, and my friend ordered a muffin in AK. We also got soft serve cones in AK and thought they were quite good!

Lunch -- Tusker House, AK. They are still offering the $10.99 coupons (3 coupons, 1 for a lunch entree and drink, 1 for a bottled water, and 1 for either popcorn or ice cream). At Tusker House, I ordered the peanut crusted chicken (2 skewers), served with a sauce, rice, and green beans, which was quite good! My friends ordered the chicken fried steak sandwich which was great, and very large! We redeemed our other coupons just before leaving the park for water and popcorn.

Dinner -- Beaches and Cream, BC. I had heard great things about this place, and I wasn't disappointed. I ordered a burger and fries and thought that this was one of the best burgers I've ever had! I think it was around $8 and included the fries. Something cute happened here too...there was a couple with a little boy, I'd guess around 3 years old. The waitress bought them a HUGE bowl, shaped like a kitchen sink, that had 8 scoops of ice cream and an entire can of whipped cream! The look on the little boy's face was priceless!

All really great meals!

Thanks for the great food report! My question is ...Was it worth going to th BC resort for 1 night. We're going in Jan. '03 and are staying at All-Star Sports and thought about moving over to the Beach Club or Yacht for 2 nights. I just wasn't sure if it's worth the extra $$. I loved to hear your opinion.

Thanks!
Kimbra :)

Kimbra,

I've done split stays with one night at a deluxe several times, mainly to experience a deluxe but to also save some $$. While it was nice for 1 night, I really would've liked to have stayed there at least 2 nights. (My travel partner is very budget conscious, which is why we only did one night.)

However, for us, even one night was great. What we did was we checked in first thing in the morning (this was 9/11, so occupancy was very low and we got in our room right away, and got upgraded to a nice courtyard view), then caught the bus to AK. We caught the bus back to the resort to relax for a little while, then went to MGM via boat and back, then ate at Beaches and Cream after MGM closed.

The convenience to EPCOT and MGM can't be beat, so if you decide to stay there, I would go to those parks on those days. Also, it's nice to stay at AS first, then "move up" to a deluxe, then you really feel like you're living in luxury!

A disclaimer: this trip we stayed at both ASSp and BC with a CM discount (50%) thanks to a friend in the college program. If it weren't for that, I think I would only stay at BC/YC with a good code rate or maybe a DC/AAA discount, since rack rate is close to $300. I really enjoyed WL, not as convenient, but a great atmosphere, and not as pricey.

Thanks LuvTigger!

We do belong to the Disney Club and we are going in January which will help on the cost a little. My husband is running in the WDW Marathon and it starts at Epoct. We thought it would be nice to be closer to the action plus treating ourselves to a deluxe resort.

Which do you prefer Yacht or Beach Club?

Thanks Again!
Kimbra :)

I only stayed at the Beach Club. I chose it because of it's proximity to EPCOT (it's closer in walking distance), but we ended up not going there on that day anyway!

I think they're essentially the same, except for the decor and coloring. I liked our room, seafoam green with little seahorses on the bedspreads. The staff was very nice too.

However, I have to tell you about what I read in the Passporter...it said that all rooms at YC have a decent view, but if you're really hoping for a great view at BC, you should pay for it and not just request a standard view. It said there are some rooms that have views of rooftops and not all of the rooms have full balconies. (I think it said YC had all full balconies.)

Our view was fine though, we got there on Sept. 11th, and the person who checked us in was really nice, and I could tell she was looking for a room with a nice view and balcony for us. (I think my room number was 4622.) I don't think the balcony was as big as some of the others, but it still had room for chairs and a small table. We had a view of the BC Villas and a nice couryard below.

Thanks for the reviews!!

Glad to hear about Tusker House, I am thinking of giving it a try in a few weeks, where do you get those coupons, and they are good for any entree there?? Sorry, I have not been able to find any posts on them anywhere, so if you could give some details that would be great!!

Wow, glad to hear about the pizza at All Star, Im thinking we will go get one from there and bring it back to BW since someone mentioned the BW pizza is kinda blah.

What a great idea about staying at the Deluxe for a night at the end of your trip, a great wa to try someplace new without spending a ton of $!!

Those are great tips about the chocolate chip pancakes and ordering pizza delivery. Thanks. (Your post was fun to read, too!)

Does anyone know if that pizza deal is available at Port Orleans Riverside?

what's the deal with Budget????? We have a car booked with them in a few weeks. Should I change????

dvcfamily,

On the resorts board, I responded to the Spa thread again...just that they have a sauna and jacuzzi to use, and you might want to get there early to use those (for facials, they recommend you don't use them right after the treatment). They also have shower facilities, complete with disposable razors and such!

As far as the coupons go, when we got to the cashier at Tusker House (you pay first and pick up your order at the counter), there was a sign explaining the coupons. Although I knew about the coupons, I only ordered the entree and drink since I couldn't decide. The cashier said, "for only a dollar more you get..." and explained it, and it made sense, so I got the coupons right there at the cashier. She kept the coupon for the entree and drink and gave me the other coupons for the water and ice cream or popcorn. And yes, I believe they are good for any entree. Most entrees cost around $6.99 or $7.99 (I think the chicken fried steak sandwich was $6.99 and the peanut crusted chicken was $7.99).

kdibattista,

I have to admit that I've used Budget quite a few times before and have never had a problem (in fact, I've never had a problem with any car rental agency at all). Hopefully my problem was an isolated incident, but this is basically what happened...we booked a reservation online on the Budget site about 2 months ahead of our trip. (We arrived on a Saturday afternoon.)

Upon arrival, we went to the line, and there were about 3 agents helping people (and a couple on the phone and doing other things) and they all seemed to be taking a long time (I was 2nd in line after a couple who had 2 separate reservations). I try to be patient though, because I understand that glitches can happen. I was waiting for over 20 minutes before I got an agent.

While I was waiting, I watched one man angrily come to the counter and tell one of the agents to cancel his reservation. Another person angrily asked one of the agents who the manager was. Another man had apparently walked to the parking lot where the cars were thinking an agent there was going to give him keys (there was no agent out there) and he had to walk all the way back to get his keys.

I finally get to an agent, and I tried to be pleasant, and the guy was just arrogant and did not even apologize for the wait in line. This guy also tried to pull a fast one with the insurance, like, "Did you want all the coverage or just liability?" And I said, "None," then he starts saying all this stuff about how my personal insurance won't cover the costs if the car goes in the shop, etc. which I have never had anyone tell me before. Then, after all this and me signing the paperwork, he says to have a seat and they'll call me when the keys are ready. WHAT??? I didn't say that, but I politely asked how long that would be, and he said 15-20 minutes. Apparently, at least 3 other people/families were waiting too.

After 30 minutes, we were the only ones still sitting there. I was getting pretty upset, and I went up to the man that another agent earlier pointed out as the manager, and he told me to see my agent, but that he'd call and check to see if my car was ready. I went to the agent and was very upset, and I asked if I was going to be waiting hours, and why he didn't say something before making me fill out all the paperwork, and wasn't there anything they could do, and he was speechless. (Btw, it is VERY rare that I get so angry that I actually say what I am thinking to the person I am thinking it about!)

I went back to my friend, and she went to another rental agency to find out how much they charged. We waited a few more minutes, and decided that even if it costs more, we'd rather get a car NOW, than wait any longer. So I went back to the counter to the agent and said I wanted to cancel my reservation, that I wasn't going to pay any penalty, and I wanted a copy of my contract with the word "void" written across it. Then a woman (the only saving grace in this whole situation) came up and asked what the situation was, so I explained how I'd been waiting for almost 45 minutes to get keys and I wasn't willing to wait any longer. This woman was VERY apologetic and pulled out keys from a box right in front of her and said they were giving me a free upgrade (I went from a compact to a full-size).

So, it worked out, but we waited much longer than we should have. Also, the car we had didn't seem to run that well even though it only had 6,000 miles on it, and the gas tank was not full. While I wouldn't swear of Budget forever, the experience in Orlando really left a sour taste and set our vacation off on a bad foot. It appears that they overbooked and that many of us had to wait.

I think I will post this on the Trans board, and maybe others can shed some light on whether this happens a lot in Orlando, but I'm hoping it's just an isolated incident. Like I said, I've never ever had problems before with any agency, and I've used Budget quite a bit.

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience but it does make me feel better that it was an isolated incident. Thanks for the post!!!
