I've been going round and round on this one.
2 of us are first time cruisers, 2 of us are not. However this would be first time on DCL for everyone. Looking at 4-day Cruise.

Party is 3 adults, 1 child

My questions are:

1. Which cruising time do you prefer first 2 weeks in Dec or 1st week in March and why?

2. Which Category choices would you pick?

a. book cat 2
b. book cat 3
c. book 2 cat 6's
d. book 1 cat 6 and 1 cat 11
e. use DVC points for cat 6/11, cat 6/6 or cat 3
f. use DVC points and cash

Need more info....

Is this two couples?
Or a couple with two teen children?

A Cat 6 will hold 4 people but if all 4 are adults I would probably get two cabins.

Give me more info and I'll try to respond better

Regarding the timeframe, I'd prefer December over March.

We cruised in March several years ago (not Disney) and got stuck in Florida for 2 days waiting for a flight because of a blizzard!

We cruised the first week of December in 2001 and it was perfect weather and Christmas decorations to boot! NO Snow either!

3 adults and 1 child (4yrs old). MIL, Husband, daughter, me.

Well....If it was MY MIL, I would definitely get ONE cat 6 room and we would all stay together. Of course, I get along fabulously with my MIL and she would be thrilled to come along and wouldn't mind at all to share with us. She'd probably prefer it and I know we would too. That said, I guess I can understand why you might want two cabins. I'd go for the Cat 6 with the 11 across the hall for her.

As far as time frame, we've cruised in March and in September. I'd have to pick December given your two choices because I think the water temps would be warmer in Dec and that's kind of important to our family. It would probably be pretty cool to see the Christmas decorations too.

Points vs Cash....I don't know the answer. I've heard people say it's not a good value to use points to cruise. I probably would do it with points if I was a DVC owner though. Another option I've heard people mention is to rent out your points and get the cash for them and use the cash to cruise. Maybe some DVCer can help with this part.

Well I'm leaning toward Dec almost 85% sure that's the month. It's also MIL's bday week. Re sharing the room with MIL - too much togetherness for me. She's great and all but they (DH and his family) are also tv people and they go to sleep with it on and the volume is LOUD (very annoying) and they also go to sleep late - or rather early. It worked well on our last WDW trip to get two rooms that connected as DH would go next door and watch the boob tube and they could hang out late. That's is why I was going two rooms or 1 or 2 bedroom stateroom.

For what it is worth, we received a quote from Dreams Unlimited for the Feb 1/04 4 night sail and then compared to points and it worked out to about $6.75 a point - we were looking at one Cat 7 and 2 Cat 10's

thanks

Cat 2 and cat6/11 combination running neck and neck - 4 each with 2- cat 6s third. I'm curious of people who voted for either - why? Also with cat6/11 combination was is due to price etc? I know that the price just rises from 2500. to 5400. I waver between going 'all out' for what may be our first and last cruise. I do know that I want the space which I can get with one suite or 2 staterooms. Is space worth the 2900 difference? Concierge is nice but from what I've read the service is so good in general that concierge level doesn't appear to make any appreciable difference. So that isn't really a consideration. I must say that we did like the full breakfast option with room service for the suite. Other pluses of suite is ability for us to have family space in one unit but to also allow separate space to have personal time. Then again 2 connected cat 6's may also do this and cat 6/11 would be potentially across the hall from each other.

I just heard from MIL's sister that she mentioned loving a "view" which may mean cat 6/11 combo is moot as I don't plan on giving her our room and taking the inside stateroom as I've never cruised and we are paying :p

My vote is 2 cabins a cat. 6 and cat 11

Privacy is precious, no matter who it is. 2 bathrooms, are also a plus when showering or getting ready in a.m. for excursions.

March was great - low 80's gentle breezes water temp was fine. Plan to travel the day before in case of weather related issues. I know someone earlier said they were stranded with snow in March, I was stranded in December too a couple years ago. That's why I now allow a day for snow to be safe.

The double bathroom is excellent when it comes time for primping before dinner. We had 3 adults in one cabin and 4 (2 tweens and 2 adults) in another and we were able to work in half the time with the double bathroom. That was the only time though that we ever noticed everyone in the cabin at once. I agree though, it depends on the age of the occupants.

My vote is for Cat. 2. We've had the Cat. 2 twice and have it booked for June 2004 7-day Western. Is space worth the difference? Yes, yes, yes!!! Having 2-1/2 baths is great. Cat. 2 is definitely worth it if you really want to go "all out"!! You won't be disappointed. Well, you might be if you decide to cruise again, then you'll only want a Cat. 2!!!
