Are 4 adults in a category 6 outside stateroom going to be cramped? Can someone explain to me where this fourth bed comes from? The travel agent was trying to explain is and I just wasn't able to picture it. Would an adult be able to sleep comfortably on this fourth bed? Thanks for all you help!

In the category 5 & 6 rooms, the fourth berth comes out of the ceiling above the sofa. The sofa converts to a bed, and the fourth berth makes a sort of bunk bed with it. I think I remember someone posting a link to a picture of this. Anyone?

It might be kind of cramped with 4 adults, but it's probably doable, especially if you don't plan on spending a lot of time in the cabin. The biggest problems that I could forsee would be drawer and closet space, and where to store your luggage.

We stayed in a Cat. 6 last year, 2 adults, 2 kids. The lower bunk is in the back of the sofa; our room steward flipped it forward. The upper bunk somehow flips down from the ceiling, and there is a small ladder that is stowed in the closet during the day. There is a small light available for the upper bunk. The lower bunk shared a bedside light with the queen bed when the room divider draperies were arranged just right. My son is 5'2" and weighs 130 lbs. He took the upper bunk and was quite comfortable. I don't know the exact dimensions of these bunks, but they SEEM a little smaller than a twin bed.

I would be more concerned with 4 adults and the bathroom facilities. I never did get the hang of the split bath -- it seemed that what I needed at any given time was in the other half!

I would share this cabin with three other VERY good friends, realizing that not a lot of time is spent there. Too much to do on the ship!!

4 adults in a category 6 room will be a little crowded and as was stated above the bathroom situation will be tight. Another suggestion would be to get a category 6 and a category 11 right across the hall. This way you will still have the verandah (a very nice addition to the cruise), have 2 bathrooms and everyone can be in a bed. The additional cost for the entire party will be about $600 - $800 (this is assuming a 7 day cruise) and split 4 ways makes it a good option.

Thanks for the quick replies but I am still unsure of what to expect.

The back of the sofa flips down to make it into a bed? So it does not unfold like a traditional sleep sofa? Would the coffee table still stay where it is? I was wondering how someone who got up early would be able to go out onto the verandah if the sofa was unfolded but it doesn't seem like that would be a problem now.

Then the fourth bed comes down from the ceiling and almost makes bunk beds with the sofa? This is what I am picturing. Is this correct?

Also, are the category 6 private verandahs? Thanks again!!!

... you've got a double bed then you've got the sofa which makes up into a single then you've got the bunk that comes down from the ceiling above the sofa (bunk beds effectively). The coffee table doesn't move. You can get out onto the verandah without kicking anyone out of bed! (There were only 3 of us on our last cruise and we got a "sleep 4" room - DD mostly slept on the upper bunk but both DH and I had a "turn" on the top bunk and both were quite comfortable so an adult on the bottom bunk and another on the top bunk shouldn't have a problem unless there're very tall). In Cat 6 you've definitely got a private verandah but there's only two chairs and a table so you'll have to fight for who get's the chairs ! LOL!!!!!!!!

Hope this makes things clearer!

Rooms that sleep three utilize a single, convertible sofa for the third person. The back of the sofa folds over to form a single bed, approximately 32 x 72 inches (81 x 183 cm).

Rooms that sleep four utilize a ceiling pull-down berth for the fourth person. The pull-down berth sets up over the sofa berth. I have some photos of Jeff, our cabin host, demonstrating how the upper berth folds down from the ceiling.

The pull-down berth is approximately 32 x 72 inches (81 x 183 cm) and has a weight restriction of 220 pounds (100 kg). The clearance from the upper berth to the ceiling is 35 inches (89 cm). The upper berth is fitted with safety rails and a ladder when it is made up by your stateroom host.

Thank you din and Dave_from_Marietta for the great pictures. I guess a picture truly is worth a thousand words because all of a sudden I get it!!! LOL!!!

I took howardk613 suggestion and booked the inside stateroom directly across the hall. It is well worth the $200 per person extra just to have some sanity!!! The room is actually for my Mom, Dad, Sister and Brother and my sister said that by the third night she was sure she would be sleeping in a lounge chair on the deck after putting up with my father for a few days!!!!! :D

If 8 people can't get along in 3 rooms then I feel very sorry for us!!!!:D

Thanks to everyone for their help, descriptions and suggestions.
