Let me first say how much I appreciate everyone's insight into Disney and the information shared here is wonderful. I gained quite a bit of knowledge by lurking here for awhile, but it is time to jump in and ask a question...

My family and I (9 total) are in need of a 4-6 bedroom home near Disney. We are in favor of Windsor Hills due to the high rates many of you have given, and the proximity to Disney and such.

Any recommendations for which home to stay in? Any recomendations for which home to avoid?

Private pool, game room, theme rooms are all a plus...

Thanks!!!!

If you have any questions let me know, the owner was easy and wonderful to work with and we had a great time. Very clean, all the amenities, and access to everything at Windsor Hills.

Good luck house hunting, hope you have a great trip! :goodvibes

I certainly appreciate the referral. That house is very nice.

We have stayed off site before in 2009 over Tahnksgiving and it was great. We stayed in Solana, which was very nice, but we would like to be a tad closer this time.

Does anyone have an alternate community that trumps Windsor Hills?

Thanks again!

You are welcome! :)

Well, Windsor Hills is very popular for a reason--not only is it super close to WDW, but it has resort-like amenities--large commmunity pool, playground, movie theater, etc. If those amenities don't appeal to you, you could save a few $$ trying Windsor Palms or Acadia Estates.

I don't have specific recommendations, but you'll probably do best, price-wise, visiting vrbo.com. All-Star Resorts is pricier, but has the benefit of having a management company, rather than (potentially) and out-of -state owner.

We're a family of 6 and stay in a 4BR/4BA home. I think with 9 people, I would opt for a 5-6 BR, just for the extra space. My family values the time we spend at the house. Also understand that most "game rooms" are really the garage--not that you need a garage much, but you should just know that. We didn't have a game room, but still parked outside, no big deal.

Good luck finding a nice house--there are plenty out there.

Thanks!

I appreciate this review. I do believe we are leaning towards a 5-6 room home for the space.

I just posted a more specific thread regarding a place called Storytime I believe...any concerns there?

We are staying in Windsor Palms in a 3 bedroom town home but this person has a 6 bedroom house as well. Here is the website. www.orlandosecret.com
The owners have been nice to work with, liked the pictures of the home, and good rates. Best of luck.

Staying here:

http://www.romancingthemouse.com/id32.html

Their quoted price includes everything so no need to figure in pool heat, cleaning fee, bbq, etc. We have the 4-bed/4-bath house and the owners live right there in case of problems.

We didn't need the highly themed Disney house so this is perfect for us.

If you are looking for a pool home in Windsor Hills or Windsor palms, and you should be! Give a look at Romancing The Mouse.
http://www.romancingthemouse.com/

They have a nice "pay one price" payment structure. EVERYTHING is included in the price........tax, pool heat, paper products, even laundry soap.....everything! They are family owned and operated, and give nice personal attn. NO maintanance co. to deal with.
Cant recommend them enough! We stayed in the 5 bdrm home in Windsor hills for 2 weeks, and just booked the 4 bdrm Windsor hills home this time.
Mark and/or Holly (the owners) will meet you at the home when you "check in", and go through the home with you. Its at that time, after you are satisfied with the home, do you pay for it ! Kind of a nice way to operate. It really helps familys who have never rented a vacation home feel secure. They also brought fresh baked muffins, fresh flowers, fresh juices, chocolate covered strawberrys, fresh baked cookies........ REALLY !
Dont think we would ever consider renting any other pool homes.

When you add up all the "extras" the other homes charge for, Romancing the Mouse is a bargain.
Oh yea, you want to book as early as you can, just look at the calender page, and you will see how fast and far in advance they fill up.

Good luck.......

For all those reasons, that's why we booked there. Can't wait! :thumbsup2

We stay at Romancing the Mouse, too. We absolutely love the 4BR house.

The only reason I didn't recommend it for this poster is, they mentioned game rooms. RtM doesn't have one. I've never stayed in the 5BR (I'm sure it's nice, just never been there). Also, some people really like the "over the top" theming, especially for children's bedrooms. Nothing wrong with that, but it's not what RtM does. OTOH, they have free DVD and PS2 game rentals and free wifi, so my gang is perfectly happy with that stuff.

Wow! Romancing teh Mouse sounds excellent. We went with Storytime this go around due to great communication with the owners, great reviews, and the themed rooms.

We will definitely look into RtM next time down, which will hopefully be sooner rather than later!

This thread has been extremely helpful, and I just want to tell everyone thank you!

We have stayed in both of their villa's on separate occassions and were very happy both times.

I had previously considered Romancing the Mouse until I went to the website and saw that they do not have game rooms. The game room is a MUST for our kids! On our last trip, they couldn't wait to go back to the house every afternoon to use the pool table and PS2.

My DH insisted for our last trip that we continue to go through a management company due to the continued high rate of foreclosures and homes for sale.

We've rented through Florida Sun Vacation Homes twice and have been very pleased. The home we rent is a 4 BR called Hi Tech Heaven (very heavily booked)! Florida Sun offers a 15% discount on stays longer than 7 nights and we normally go for 10 days. The also have free pool heat and free WiFi. Most of the homes have game rooms and look exactly as pictured on the website.

Two other management companies that have been highly recommended here are All Star Vacation Homes and Oasis.

Good luck with your home search! :goodvibes

4forme--you make some good points. My gang initially wanted a place with a game room. Then we booked once through RtM, and now the kids consider their 4BR to be "our house" and wouldn't consider anywhere else. But, I do like the idea of a game room. If we ever run into an issue with them, I'll have to look at Florida Sun, since we typically go every other year, for 2 weeks.

I don't think the foreclosure issue is as big in Windsor Hills as it is in other areas--DH had actually discussed this with Mark when we were down there last, and he said home prices maintained in WH, despite everything. But certainly, if it's a concern, the few extra $$ for a management company rental are worth the peace of mind.
