We would love to stay 7 days at a Deluxe resort this May, but cannot afford it this trip. Should we stay 7 days at a Value resort or 4/5 (depends on rates) at a Deluxe resort ??? It will be my mother and I (we are going for Mother's Day).

Well, Mom & I are DVCers, and prior to that stayed at Deluxes. But, we drove down and arrived a day early, so we go an AP Rate at POP, and were both perfectly satisfied...so if I had to make a choice in your situation...I'd choose 7 days at POP, and request (assuming your Mom is "of a certain age") a room as close to the food court and bus stop as possible.

LOL, I'm not going to tell my mom that comment. :earseek: She's in her 40's so not THAT old yet. Thanks for your input. :D

ROFL, well see, I didn't check your profile for your age...my Mom is 80.

I think it depends on your mother. Is she someone who would appreciate the deluxe enviroment more than a value? Or is she someone who would want to be out doing things all the time and wouldn't really care one way or another where she slept?

I'll tell you one thing. Speaking as a mother with a daugher, she will be SO HAPPY to be with you at WDW, she probably wouldn't care if you stayed in a Motel 6! ::yes::

I'm with Jovidan.

Although to each his own, I'd stay for three extra days in a heartbeat.

The deluxe resorts are great and all if money isn't an issue, but for me I'm at WDW to experience the attractions and fun OUTSIDE of the resorts. If I just wanted to stay at a fancy hotel there are plenty near my home that make even the most beautiful WDW property look like a shanty town. ;)

And think of the money you will save - if you get a discount code, you can book Pop Century for like $55/night. You'd pay for 7 days what you'd likely pay for only two nights at a deluxe. I'd much rather have that cash to actively spend on fancy meals (Brown Derby, World Showcase, etc.) and stuff in the parks than a room that will remain empty unless I'm asleep.

It really comes down to where your priorities lie - yes, deluxes have bigger rooms and more "services", but are you really going to use it? Especially with the new "Magic Your Way" pricing plan for admission, the difference between a 4-day pass and a 7-day pass is minimal. Heck, go for an 8-day pass and use it on your first or last day - at that point, it literally is only a couple of dollars more.

Use your best judgement - and decide what's more important to you and your mom. It would be a no-brainer for me, but everyone is different, as we wll know. :earboy2:

Good luck!

I guess I'm in the minority, but I would rather stay 4/5 days at a deluxe. I have stayed 4 and 5 days at trips to the Swan/Dolphin. We found that we could get a lot done because we didn't spend much time on park transportation. We like to do 2 parks a day, and it was so easy to take a hotel break in between trips. It sounds like you will be going to WDW in the future, so you don't have to get everything done on this trip.

For a mom/daughter trip, I would choose Boardwalk, GF or Poly. S/D may have some good discounts then, but who knows. You might be able to rent points for Sun-Thurs. at BW or BC at pretty good rates during that time. Good luck!

I'm just curious, but have you ever stayed at Pop? The transportation is wonderful...5 mins or less to Epcot and MGM, 5-7 mins for AK, and 10-12 for MK. No, it's not smack dab next to Epcot as Swolphin is, but I visited 2-3 parks a day, with breaks in between, easily. It's much better than the All-Stars where they share a bus among several resorts - Pop has it's own dedicated line.

Again, it really depends on what you are looking for - but the transportation at Pop was excellent, IMHO. If you are a huge Epcot person I can see staying at Swolphin for that access, but if budget is a consideration as it is for OP then I'll have to stay with my reccomendation of Pop - 'cause you'd have a lot more money to spend on other things you'd be awake to enjoy. :)

We've stayed at all levels. We actually enjoyed AllStarMusic last year. It was just my dd and myself. I would go for the longer stay. But, as someone else asked...can you grab a moderate at a good rate? POR would be nice. You can sometimes get that for less than $100 a night with a good code.

I am taking my dd on a surprise girls only trip in June. We are staying at BWV (we own there) from Sat thru Friday, then moving over to AllStarMovies for Fri and Sat nights. Obviously we have no problem with those value resorts. If you are going to be in the parks for the majority of the time, then go for it. I actually find the food courts to be very convenient. I miss them when I stay at BWV!!! They are nice for a quick bite.

I've stayed at all levels and I would choose 5 days at a deluxe. It is definitely long enough, as it's the longest I've ever stayed at Disney and we were ready to go home. I guess you would save money at a value, but you still have to eat those days and will still be spending $$$, so it won't save that much more. WL is my fav deluxe. Have fun deciding!!!

I'll be going for 8 days in June and staying at POP, it was either that or 5 days at POLY...........I rather have the extra time........

Enjoy...........

I've done all configurations - my wish for May would be the short stay in a Deluxe or a bit longer in a moderate, ESPECially a deluxe in the Epcot resort area for it's proximity to the flower and garden show! I would avoid the MK resort area if my stay was over a weekend due to the noise of grad nights from the magic kingdom.

*I* personally would do the value and stay the extra days. My mom is high maintenance though (in her forties) and wouldn't go for a value, so deluxe it would be :D

I would go for the deluxe resort by far! I stayed in the All Star Movie Resort about a year or two ago and was not too impressed. We went in Aug. and could hardly ever get a bus. Everyone lined up in the blazing heat to get on and when the bus finally got there, it was standing room only because we were the last stop (they pick up Sports and Music first). However, it was very crowded when I went so that could be why I had such a bad experience. It is a nice resort, but seems to have a theme small children would like better than adults. If you don't want to spend the big bucks on a deluxe room, go for the moderate resorts. They are wonderful and there isn't much difference in the price. I guess it really depends on how much time you want to spend at your resort.
