Not to nick-pick, but...Actually, we considered that, but getting the 7-10 day tickets would only have saved us about $15 to $30 (can't remember the exact amount). I decided not to do it because we A) Didn't want to tie up the money up front just to get the savings later (i.e. you have to pay for those more expensive tickets when you pay the balance off) and B) I was a little nervous about being able to trade in the more expensive tickets for the AP since we haven't done it before. Just my own insecurity because many people have reported success. Anyway, yes, you could save a little more but to me it didn't seem worth it at the time.

Adding the no expiration option on a 7 day base ticket would save you $73.48 per adult ticket and a 10 day base ticket would save you $105.44 per adult ticket under the 4/3 deal. You get three days for free. You just need to make sure you use the ticket at least once first.
I certainly understand not wanting to invest the money upfront (still debating that one myself), but it is a good long-term savings. If you know it is just a few months (my case is over a year and I already am sitting on several tickets at a good value), it might really be worth it. Way over $15-$30. BTW, the difference between a 4-day and a 7-day base ticket is $9.58 per adult ticket without adding the no expiration option. I think you ran the wrong numbers.
Upgrades are common and very, very rarely have an issues. And most of those are cleared up instantly.
