4/3 with AP

Yes...You are right.... I was so excited about that $569.00....Now, I'll be paying out about that much, when I get there...won't I?

No, it shouldn't be that much. Don't forget, you already have the price of a one day base ticket paid for. Both your DH and grandson will have adult tickets, so that price is $79.88 each. The cost of a 7 day ticket is $242.82, + $53.25 for park hopping. So each ticket is $296.07. BUT, you subtract the $79.88 you alread paid... So you will owe an additional $216.19 for each. Total is $432.38. You said you saved $569? $569-$432.38= $136.62. So not too bad. I think I would rather save that much than buy a ticket I don't need.

For us it was definitely better! Last year I had already booked a 7-night reservation at Pop for the end of January 2009. I got the AP rate which was $385.91 for the 7 nights ($55.13 per night - a steal to begin with!). Then the 4/3 came out and we switched because we haven't bought our APs yet so we can apply the one day non-park hopper ticket that we had to buy per person to buying the AP when we go. The new price is $532.78. We get the $200 gift card which is then like we spent $332.78 AND we get $75 each (or whatever the going rate is for a 1-day ticket) towards our annual passes so it's like we're spending $182.78 for the 7 nights for our room. A little over $26 per night. If we had the time we would live there on this deal for a few months! :lmao:

I'm just starting out on this thread, so it might have been mentioned already, but you will get a much better deal buying a 7-10 day ticket with no expiration (hopper optional) and then upgrading those tickets to APs, if that is what you are planning on getting.

Not unless ticket prices go up between the time you book the deal and the time you redeem them.

We got our AP's in December 2008, but I booked the deal in January 2008, so the ticket prices had increased. We booked 8 day, nonexpiring park hoppers. So to get current gate price for those tickets we needed to use them once. We walked in, saw a few things and walked out and upgraded the same day.

I am honestly not sure how the using once part works if it is only a 1 day pass though...

Next time, to save time, you do not need to walk out to upgrade. You may upgrade your tickets inside the park at guest relations office.

Any ticket, even if it is "used up" can be upgraded until 14 days after first use.

?
So when we go in late Sept and our AP are expired we should all get the 7 days with hopper, use them and on the last day upgrade to our AP's? That would save the most money?

I have (here at home)...One ten day non expiring park hopper ticket...(bought a couple of years ago and was never used) and one five day non expiring park hopper ticket (never used)...Can't I just use those for my grandson and husband...(husband could use the ten day one so he could use the remaining days on it) (grandson could use the five day one that I have, along with the base ticket I have to purchase) I guess I'd save my one day ticket for somebody else at a different time... Since I already have those tickets...I think I'd be saving even more money...:thumbsup2

Look at the thread I posted. The math is posted there; it gives a good amount on the breakdown of savings up to the 7 day mark. Days after the 10 day mark are not posted.

But, if you want the best deal long run, get a 7-10 day ticket with *no expiration*. If you want the least amount of money, short term, stick to a one-day base ticket. Hopping is the same cost if you purchase a 1 day ticket or a 10 day ticket. In other words, hopping won't save you a dime either way, just give you a credit.

You only need to use a ticket once. You do not need to wait until the last day to upgrade. Just get in the gate and walk over to the guest relations office. Or, you can use it all (forgoing any AP discounts and having a harder time if there are problems--again, look at the thread I posted) and then upgrade as late as two weeks after first use.

We were on our way out of the park anyway, but thanks for the tip! :thumbsup2

Yup, that would work! Nice job! :thumbsup2

In theory, yes. But I guess it would depend on how many people are in your party and where you are staying. For me it is 1A1C, so that adds $138 to my price (the cost of the 2 1 day passes), which is a lot since I am staying at a value resort.

Full price for my 7 nights at Pop is $825 (pre tax). I am paying $471 (pre tax) plus $138 for those tickets. That's a savings of $216. Add the free $200gift card and it would be like a $416 savings.

However, a 40% room discount, where I don't need to get the 1 day passes, would save me $330. Therefore the 4/3 with the gift card would be a better deal.

HTH!

Nice, a very great deal... Hopefully we can get a better deal for this year. We have still many more months to really compute what would be the bext deal. :lmao:

Have a nice day. :)

It would have been if I was eligible for the gift card!! I am not in June. I am still hopeful for an AP rate so I can drop those tickets! pixiedust:

We have AP's and I booked a room-only with the 40% code for 6 nights at ASMovies in March at a cost of $576. I was happy with the price, but then realized that I could book with the 4/3 offer and get 7 nights w/ 1-day tickets for $794.

Deducting the value of the $200 gift card, that made it only $18 more for the extra night and allows me to use the value of the 1-day ticket toward our AP renewal in October. Those 1-day tickets, plus the 1-day tickets I had to purchase when I booked our bounceback trip for late September will really help defray the cost of our AP renewal this year.

It would, except you can't use multiple tickets towards an AP renewal. You are essentially "upgrading" your 1 day ticket to an AP, so Disney will not allow you to put 2 one day tickets towards 1 AP. That is why it doesn't make sense for AP holders to keep booking packages with one day tickets, because what are you going to do with a pile of 1 day tickets??

Wow, guess I really should asked about that. They let me do it last year. When did they change it?

Not sure, but when I was at Disney last month I asked at guest relations b/c we got one day tickets for that trip, and were considering coming back in late summer if "free dining" is offered again. So then we'd have 2 one day tickets each to put towards our AP renewals. When I asked, the guest relations CM said no, it was strict policy to only allow 1 ticket per upgrade. Although on another discussion board I visit, members there say they have been allowed to do it, as have you. We decided it wasn't worth the chance of being told no, so we'll take advantage of other discounts that don't involve buying a one day ticket. I would rather not get the "best deal", but rather the deal that works best for us. :confused3

This is all very confusing! We are going in April on the 4/3. We got 9 day tickets. When we get there, can I use the price differenct of those 9 day tickets and upgrade to an AP and still benefit from the room 4/3??

Yes. See THIS thread.

It's been a very long standing policy. You just got some extra pixie dust from a CM who did something they shouldn't have. I think it's great that worked for you, but don't expect a repeat performance.

Here is why it does make sense for us AP holders to keep getting packages with one-day base tickets:

  • It lowers our bottom line to get a package with a great discount. We might be gaining one-day tickets we really don’t need, but we are paying less than without the package. Those one-day tickets are basically a “gift” or a “freebie”. They save us money. They don’t cost us money.
  • Those good package deals aren’t always there, but our need for an AP is. The tickets can continuously be use for new AP purchases/renewals.
  • The prices of tickets keep going up. Those one day tickets, as long as they are used, give us a discount on our APs—which otherwise aren’t available for an AP.
  • Tickets, as long as they aren’t used, are fully transferable. They can be use for children turning three. They can be given (or sold for no profit) to friends or family.
  • If taking a short trip between APs, they come in handy. If you go in February 2009 and again in January 2010, you’ve made your money off your AP. Then your next trip might not be until 2011. Obviously you wouldn’t be getting a new AP. But maybe your job sends you to Orlando for a convention and you have a free day. You now have a ticket to visit to WDW.

I have unused one day tickets from December. We are going in APril on a 9 day ticket 4/3 purchase. So, I couldn't use the 4/3 ticket package AND the one day unused tickets to purchase AP's? I could only use one or the other?

Actually, we considered that, but getting the 7-10 day tickets would only have saved us about $15 to $30 (can't remember the exact amount). I decided not to do it because we A) Didn't want to tie up the money up front just to get the savings later (i.e. you have to pay for those more expensive tickets when you pay the balance off) and B) I was a little nervous about being able to trade in the more expensive tickets for the AP since we haven't done it before. Just my own insecurity because many people have reported success. Anyway, yes, you could save a little more but to me it didn't seem worth it at the time.
