What time does the ship start boarding, and what time can we get to the pier to check in?:happytv:

What time does everyone have for dinner?

What is your favorite character (include everyone in the family):confused3

Fish Extender
This is my 1st time also, but I've done a lot of reading on the boards. Some people put names of who the items came from, but I like the anonymous idea. So if you got Cinderella stickers for someones dd it would go in her pocket and fill everyone's pockets in one stop. Someone mentioned to pick a good time? Maybe right before dinner so won't be hanging all day for curious hands to get hold of. It hangs on decorative metal fish next to your cabin door. This space is about 8 inches wide and no more than 32 inches or it will cover your room number. Anyone please correct this info if I've got it wrong.

So -- let me get this straight -- once I find a fish extender - because I won't be sewing one - - it gets hung up on the cabin door. I'm assuming it has pockets? We put our name on each pocket? Then what - - -sometime during the cruise we put a little gift in the pocket? Is this done anonymously? I'm trying to understand the process.

Hi All,

Here's some info on how the FE work that we posted on another thread for those that are new to the FE exchange.

Here's some info on how the FE have worked on other cruises. Simply hang your FE on the metal fish outside your cabin door (the fish is usually used by DCL to leave envelopes, messages, etc.), a wire tie is helpful for attaching your FE to help keep it from "walking off" (use the wire tie to tighten the string loop that goes over the fish so the FE can't just be lifted off).

FE don't need to be elaborate, we've seen some that have been a bag labeled "FE" (maybe the original was lost with the luggage :confused3 ). Some are decorated for the ports or have names, be creative.

Those participating in the FE exchange bring along whatever gift, trinket, etc. they want. Some of the things we've received on past cruises include candy, postcards from home, a ziplock bag with paper clips, band aids, elastic bands, mini-post-its {all the little things you forget}, homemade luggage tags, little pirate rubber duckies, pirate eye patches, pirate tattos, glow stick necklaces, homemade magnets, bubbles, playing cards, etc. A lot of folks use Oriental Trading Co. or your local party supply store for ideas. Some of the best have been homemade.

Depending on what you give it can be one per cabin or one for each person in the cabin (especially candy); some give different things for adults and children. You don't need to make more than one delivery, i.e. you don't need a new thing each night (on some cruises there have been over a 100 cabins involved! )

When to delivery the FE gifts is up to those doing the giving. There is no assigned day or time, that is part of the fun - coming back to your cabin and seeing what has appeared in your FE. Some deliver early in the cruise, others later, some deliveries are timed to events like Pirate Night. We usually deliver ours on a sea day, it is fun to walk around the ship making the deliveries and seeing others FE and door decorations. (Hint: it is easier to start on the top deck and work your way down)

Some folks add their disboard name, or first names to the gift, others are left secretly.

FE are a fun way to do some more planning before and during the cruise. It started as another way for Disboarders to interact.

So have fun, be creative and remember the luggage weight limits if flying.

More snow tonight and tomorrow, so how soon is this cruise???

See you soon, Bob & Dale (DW) :wave2:

The port opens at 10:00am, looks like first groups on ship by 11:45am.

We have 2nd seating and wait listed for 1st. I can't see eating at 8pm with a 5yo. but have to rush back from excursions for 1st seating???

For those of you that don't sew, here's the fish extender I bought on eBay:

We're also in the second seating for dinner.

I don't know about what time the port opens as this is my first cruise but I can tell you my dinner seating is the 2nd dinner seating.

Favorite character: Me - Donald Duck, my mom Linda Tinker Bell

On our cruise last year our group met at 3:30 in the Promenade Lounge. This gave everyone enough time to get on the ship and get organized. We were done in plenty of time before the muster drill. This was also a good time and place to have a group picture taken.

I went through the thread and wrote down a list of who is joining us on the cruise :cheer2: (if I missed someone, please add your name)

nascar8820 - on the FE list

Please update for celebrations, adding your name, and room number.QUOTE]

We will be on our honeymoon!:cool1:

Just found this on the All Ears newsletter. I thought some of you might be interested.

Effective Sunday, February 1, 2009, Disney Cruise Line will operate a new storage facility that stores select items Guests have shipped prior to embarkation for delivery to the Disney Cruise Line terminal at Port Canaveral, Florida. Guests wishing to mail items prior to embarkation should direct their packages to the Disney Cruise Line Warehouse at 8633 Transport Drive, Orlando, FL 32832.

I'm hoping not to have so much stuff that I need to ship items down, but for those who may be doing that, it is good info to have!

Hi all -- I missed out on the weekend chatter - - it is funny, you miss a couple of days and lots gets talked about.
I noticed the fish extender list -- my name is Sandy and DH is Gary and we are room 7020.
So -- let me get this straight -- once I find a fish extender - because I won't be sewing one - - it gets hung up on the cabin door. I'm assuming it has pockets? We put our name on each pocket? Also, I am willing to get the bracelets but I'm very disorganized - I would be willing to pair up with someone to keep a list of people from allears and then figure out where to meet in the port before the cruise. I Like to get on the ship as early as possible so hopefully we can take turns handing out the bracelets. We also need to decide on a color. If someone else would rather do this that's fine. I offered because it was a fun way to meet right before the cruise. We didn't wear the bracelets all week but within a day or two we started recognizing each other around the ship and it was fun to say hi.

Looks like we will be almost neighbors..we are in 7010!

I think that would be a great idea!!

I actually considered having some of the FE gifts shipped ahead of time because I was worried about bringing them on the plane or getting through security (48 pirate swords anyone?) but DH convinced me to buy smaller, flatter, and security-friendly FE gifts. ::yes::

I'm a newbie and this will be our first Disney Cruise. We are very excited to find this message board. Not sure if we'll be able to do all the extras stuff you guys are talking about (I'm already a little overwhelmed, this being our first cruise), but it sure sounds fun.

Welcome! :wave2:

It is a bit overwhelming. It's my second cruise and I was overwhelmed a few weeks ago. These boards are wonderful though. I've been reading the main DCL forum every day and I've learned so much. After a couple of weeks, you'll be an expert! :)

Thank you. I sure hope so. This cruise was a Christmas gift from my DH. So I've had a little time to absorb the idea, but I'm a planner and I only have a few months to pull this off :crazy2: . But really, it sounds like Disney does a wonderful job.

Nicole

Hey there Trings - it does look like we are not far apart at all. :)

The meet in the Promenade Lounge at 3:30 does sound good. If everyone agrees then let's plan that. The group picture sounds great. I can bring the bracelets at that time -- what color? They are the rubbery kind that men and women wear for a cause or whatever so they aren't too feminine for the guys :). We obviously don't have to weqar them all the time but maybe the first and second day just to shout out to each other. It's fun to go to a club and see people you know. Also the kids can recognize each other too and I would think it would make them feel less shy about going up to andother kid who has one on. It's up to you parents out there.

I also don't want new people to the cruise to think that you are then obligated to get together with everyone throughout the cruise. We all want our alone time and family time - - but it is fun to get together with someone if you want to or to recognize the person sitting next to you by the pool or to just wave and say hi passing by.

So once this gets finalized I'll start taking names through March and even April and get them ordered. If someone else wants to volunteer to get to the PLounge 15 minutes early to help greet that would be nice too. I'm sure any and all ideas are welcomed by all. I just got on this board so I don't want to step on any toes . Sandy

WOW- busy thread!!!:thumbsup2
Sould be do lime green bracelets to be DIS correct????? Makes no deiffence to us- any color is good!:thumbsup2

We are all getting so excited here in the cold/snowy north:sad2:

Putting up pictures also helps us to get to know each other and to be able to recognize, put a name to a face. I think little kids get a charge out of having their name said when you pass them in the hallway or at a function just to say HI. And you can't help but to bump into each other during the evening show or dinner time. See not to mention swimming time, lunch time, fun time, lounge time:beach: :crowded:

hoosiercruiser, don't fret about planning other than getting yourself to the port and excursions and alas, home again. There is a planner/newsletter delivered each morning available with the itineraries (spelled wrong?) for the ship activites.

One of my favorite is family Bingo, but beware $$$, but fun. The last cruise that myself, trings, dadlvsdisney were on, seemed we were bumping into the same cast members that did the activities and they were a blast. They took our DISBOARD group picture with all available cameras and tehn took some of themselves - the close up kind. :rotfl2: We had the group photo about mid week, after early dinner and before late dinner, and it seemed everyone was comfortable enough with each other by that time. I am sure we can snag a cast member to take a grou picture before the start of the cruise.

I will have to post some on photobucket and put a link for you to see.

Ever watch LOVE BOAT (showing my age here a bit)? When ever someone came on board and was looking for someone else, Julie, the "cruise director" would always tell them she saw that person on the promenade lounge/deck.

sandyrella1010 I don't think you are stepping on anyone's toes.

OK, enough for me now.....
