4/24/2010 Med cruise: Friends, Romans, Countrymen lend me your Ears

Hi everyone! We just joined booked your cruise!:cool1:

It's me, dd12, a friend and her dd14.

I'm a travel agent and we got a deal too awesome to pass up!! Hubby and ds couldn't go, so it's a girl's trip!

We can't wait! I've got so much reading to do now!!

Well, we'll almost ready for the Morocco trip, meaning we're not ready at all.

I've been trying to practice Arabic dialogues on the blog, but my Arabic teacher won't correct them. I guess they're just that bad.

Julie

Maybe he isn't correcting them because he is super impressed :)

I am planning to also do the train, metro, foot tour too. But its familiar to me and I have done it before, so I go for the chipper chicken. :)

Perhaps you will be helping my crew with the train, metro, foot tour lol.

Welcome!! I love your photographs!!

Thank you, both!!:)

I can't wait for Mediterranean photographs!!:banana::banana::banana:

Me too! You have a very good eye. I would love to see your shots of the Med .

My niece is in the Air Force. Right now she is in San Antonio, but was in England for 2 years, just outside of London. That was a great trip! She went from there to Guam, but the airfare was too much. I should have gone!

You should have! That would have been awesome! My dad was in the Air Force and we actually lived in Guam when I was young.:)

Does anyone know if they play more current Disney movies on the cruise ship? Just wondering if there is something my kids haven't seen that has been in theaters that could be playing on board the ship.

I just checked the Navigator from the Feb 11-13 cruise; in the Buena Vista Theatre, they were showing: Old Dogs, When in Rome, Princess & the Frog, G Force and Up (in 3-D).

If you click on Disney Cruise Line Info (top of the page under the red stripe), you can find Navigators and other useful stuff.

This is my 1,000th post!

Welcome aboard. My 13 year old son will be thrilled to learn that there are more kids in his age group onboard. See you in 2 months.

Hey guys, I've been wondering this for a while now. I know we have info on what occured on the 2007 cruise, as regards what theme for which night, however I've not seen anything as regards our cruise in particular. I know other Med sailing meets seem to have this information, but I'm not sure how they've obtained it or whether it's a "best guess" based on 2007 sailings. Can anyone enlighten me?

I believe it was Belinda (Shushh) who got the information from DCL at some point -- but what we have is -- Day 2 Formal night, Day 7 Semi Formal, Day 8 Pirate Night, Day 10 Semi Formal. So, with that information...
  • 4/25 Sea Day - Formal Night
  • 4/30 La Spezia - Semi Formal
  • 5/1 Sea Day - Pirate Night
  • 5/3 Villefranche - Semi Formal

Hope that helps :thumbsup2

Welcome Disneyfalcon!

We're doing this as a mom and big kids only trip, leaving the two little ones home with dad.

We're also doing train-foot-metro in Rome. We have a list of sites to see- St Paul Outside the Walls, a quick trip to the Forum, then Vatican, and the kids wanted to see the Capuchin Ossuary, but it's closed on Thursdays.

In two weeks, we'll be in Fes (if all goes well). If things go less than well, we'll be lost in Casablanca, or on the wrong train headed somewhere other than Fes (most likely).

Hi we are joining you on this cruise, booked cat 12s with kids sail free so taking kids out of school (educational trip). Two children - 8 years girl and 6 years boy. Wondered if anyone else had children of this age travelling and whether anyone has done Rome on their own with this age of children before. Cant decide between DCL tour or on our own - huge price difference but do want to see the vatican and colliseum at least.

Also if anyones done the disney or other tour how long do you spend in the vatican as really only want to see the sistine chapel and dont know if the kids will be able to bear hours in the museums.

Cant wait fourth disney cruise but rest have been caribean 7 days

I was not going to post until I am fully caught up reading the thread, but I am only on page 31 and nearly bursting with excitement.

We are going to join you on this cruise. We are Corinna (35) and Graham (51). This will be our 4th cruise on DCL and the 3rd time on the Magic. We have booked a category 12 GTY and I can't wait to find out our room assignment. We have late dinner.

We are flying into Barcelona on April 22nd (early morning) and we have a lunchtime flight back on May 5th. The flights are all booked, but we still need to book a hotel.

We have not really made any plans for the cruise yet it was such an impulse decision. I would love to see the Chagall Museum in Nice and I am considering an Angels and Demons walking tour in Rome, but no firm plans have been made. We managed to get dinner at Palo, which quite surprised me.

I am so looking forward to this cruise.

Corinna

Welcome Lynne & Family-

We booked the same way, and our DS just turned 6 in January. There seem to be alot of kids between 6 & 8 joining us, so I am sure they will all have fun at the kids club's. From our research on your own in Rome is easy to do, and several families are doing it. You might join us with someone more experience, but since this is our first time in Rome, and we love to travel, so we don't know when we will be back. We decided to join up with another family, and pay for a private tour. We wanted to get as much information and see as many sights as possible.

There are still people searching for "private tour" partners, if you decide to go that route. Welcome Aboard.

:welcome:

We have two daughters, 8 & 4. We plan on doing Rome on our own. We are buying all of the exntrance tickets ahead of time and looking forward to doing things at our pace. We originally booked through DCL but we are now going to do it on our own. The cost savings is HUGE. We chose not to do a guided tour bc of 1 the cost the 2 the trouble driving in the city. Most of everything is done through walking. I have read lots of stories of people sitting in lots of traffic. Even the hop on and off bus can sometimes take a lot longer to get to one place to the other bc of traffic. I am figuring it is ike NYC and the last thing I would want is a driver through that city! :lmao: Even the tour with DCL is mostly walking (besides the train to get there and bus to the colliseum) bc it just seems easier to walk.

We are buying tickets and tours at both the vatican and the colliseum. They are both must see's on our list!

I bought our DD 8 a kids guide book on Rome. It is wonderful. She reads it every night and is learning so many interesting facts and things to see. She is so excited to share with us all she is learning from the book.

Welcome to all the new cruisers!!

Lynne we have a 7 and a 5 year old. Lara is right, there are few kids around the same ages. We also have an 18 months old so we're doing a private tour in Rome. Looking forward to meet up on the cruise!

Brooklyn, do you mind sharing the title of the book you got your DD? Was planning to get one for DS but haven't found anything that was quite right.

Thanks - will look out for any private tours to share on the boards. have got loads of guide books for each port but not sure thats helping me - lots to see and little time to see it. Dont want to spend all day on excursions as children love the boat.

looks good that there are children close to mines ages *** was a bit worried there would be few given its not school holiday time. Also on the lookout for books particularly for my daughter so she can read before we go. Got a wii game for my son - ruthless romans and a Cows in Action book which takes place in ancient Rome.

Was anyone on the 2007 med cruise - *** just wondered if they heat the pools. Never been to med outwith Summer months so not sure how warm it will be
