4/24/2010 Med cruise: Friends, Romans, Countrymen lend me your Ears

Happy Final Payment Day!!!!:lmao:

I rebooked the cruise and gave up the blocked porthole room for a GTY cat 12 cabin. It was less than half by doing that and with the airfares not getting cheaper that seemed like a good option. Working in state government means figuring out how to trim the budget while I still have a job. Too bad I am not a politician and I can just vote to give myself a pay raise. Just glad to be on the ship and not really planning on spending any time in the cabin outside of sleeping any way.

Did people get a letter from Disney about a cabin credit? Just wondering if others got it as well.

Happy Holidays!! :santa::santa::santa:

I would have done the same thing. Actually we did just that last summer.

I will take CAT 12 GTY anyday! Especially for the price we got it at!!!! :thumbsup2

I know others mentioned getting the letter. We booked after Nov 27th so no extra credit for us. I can't complain though getting 4 people for $2200 with tax! :thumbsup2 So absolutly excited for this vacation!!!

Those 13 Cat 12 cabins are going to be pretty crowded with all of us who have switched into them.

Sounds like most of us who had booked early got the credit. Nice Christmas present.

Our cruise last summer there were over 100+ cabins booked at CAT 12 GTY. I guess it must be DCL's new way of getting people on board. It worked for us, LOL!

Now just waiting for cabin assignments!

I am still hoping we don't have to take all of our bags off in BCN for the B2B. The lady from DCL said it will be up to the officials in BCN. Keeping my fingers crossed!!!

I was wondering about the luggage in Barcelona.

I found a site for Go Cars in Barcelona and wanted to book one for Karen and me to go sightseeing around the city for a few hours but didn't know if I'd have to be hanging around the boat waiting to put the luggage back on. And I've already booked Friday morning 4/23 for a Segway ride, so I'm trying to fit it in to our schedule.

We did the same thing going from a cat 7 to a GTY 12 and saved a lot of money.

I will be out of commission the next few days with sick kids, and huge entertaining plans for the 25th-27th. I'm already cooking. It's crazy here.

Merry Christmas all -- it is Christmas eve here in Missouri. All of our plans have been cancelled due to the blizzard happening outside right now. We are expecting over a foot of snow. Kinda of wish we were back in Australia right now!

Since we are snowed in Chris and I will be trying to book hotels and deciding on shore excursions tomorrow! Can't wait for our cruise!!!

Hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday!

I'm also wondering about BTB luggage. Don't want to have to be stuck with that all morning and wish we had an answer.

Lynne, would love to hear about the Segway ride you have booked.

Up early it's booking time for Platinum and booking a bunch of excursions (couple of which I may cancel later) and of course DCL website is misbehaving :) No problems getting anything but very SLOW booking.

We are currently a cranky bunch, stuffed temporarily in two apartments here until our house is done in a month (maybe longer if I can't settle on a kitchen design).

Merry Christmas to all,

I agree the Cat 12 GTY price was such an incredibe deal.

We got a letter a few weeks ago from Disney giving us the $100 on board credit per person in our party. It was a very nice surprise and when I made my final payment the other day, confirmed with Disney on the phone they had this on our reservation. Though I've not been able to figure out how to find this credit online in our reservation.

Merry Christmas.

We just spent a couple of hours looking at all the info and pretty much decided Shussh had done a great job planning. Are there any families or individuals that would like to join us on private tours? We are a party of three, and would love to lower cost by sharing a car. Even though our son is 6 we still plan on making the most of our days. (Brooklyn - what does your party of 5 plan on doing?) If we have 8 in a vehicle, it comes down to approx. $100 pp, instead of over $700 for 3.

Naples - we want to see Pompeii, Amalfi Coast, Sorrento, and Positano

Rome - full day with all the main sites, and Vatican Tour

Florence Pisa Tour

Monaco & Nice tour from Villefranche, France

Let me know if any one is interested in joining any of these tours!

Lynne, would love to hear about the Segway ride you have booked....

kcashner PM'ed me and said that on a previous BTB TA/Med, she took her luggage to Customer Service, and they stored her bags. I'm hoping that will work if we don't end up in the same cabin for both cruises (and then we could leave it all in the cabin - but we're GTY, so who knows?)

...I booked the Segway tour in August (tho' I doubt it is full). I chose Barcelona Segway Glides - the first Segway tour offered there. We have a morning tour, 10 am, on the 23rd of April.

"Meeting point is Sant Jaume Square, the city hall square, right in the middle of the gothic quarter.

I will be waiting for you with a segway, next to the tourist information point and the taxi stop. It is very important you wait for me right there as on the 23rd of April we celebrate Sant jordi, which is a very big day in Barcelona, it is possible that the square is crowded. Do not worry we will not do the training in this square."

Minimum age: 15, so Kelsey & Nikolas are too young.

However, another company Barcelona Segway Fun allows:

What age do you have to be to drive one?
There is no age limit though we advise older than 16 years of age or accompanied by parents.

Is there a weight limit?
You must weigh between 45 and 100 Kg (99-220 lbs)

Can't imagine a 7 yo boy would be heavy enough?

Thanks for the info Lynne, I read good reviews for that company on trip advisor.

Looking at segway tour the afternoon of 23rd :) as I am thinking to do a DCL tour in the a.m.. It would just be me and Kelsey (she is the almost 16 year old). Emily 13 and Nick 7 would be happy to wait on the ship after doing a morning excursion. And yeah, you are right about the weight, poor Nick is like a bag of feathers. A peanut at about 35 pounds :) Long time til he gets a Segway ride! Gonna email them though, maybe I will end up on the morning one if there is any availability left.

Between the two meet threads I am getting myself totally confused and is there a list somewhere of everyone who is on the BTB doing both cruises?

What a weekend, visiting inlaws in South Carolina. Hoping everyone has a great weekend and enjoyed their Christmas.

Okay, this is the Med cruise thread - we are technically doing Barcelona on the TA cruise. It is very hard keeping them separate; I routinely have to look at the top of the page to remember where I'm going with this set of people - and add to that the Panama Canal cruise Jan 2011 (all three cruises have an overlapping of people).

If we could all be so lucky that this is the big problem of the day!

Lynne

My husband and I would be interested in sharing a van. All the areas are ones that we are interested in except maybe Pisa. We have already been there. He has a little problem walking long distances. He is tall and needs leg room.Disney said they would help us in this but I could not get them to quote a price. Let me know if you have additional information.thanks
