4/24/2010 Med cruise: Friends, Romans, Countrymen lend me your Ears

no packing/unpacking for all those different places, yeah! :cool1:
Hellelujah!!! :cool1:

Already trying to figure out how to make the port days mixes of long and short excursions so we won't be too exhausted.
We too had to keep this in mind when organising ourselves, seeing as we've got an 18 month as well. Its hard not to get over-excited and try to do/see everything! We're just preparing ourselves for an exhausting but rewarding and fun trip.
We are also booked on the PC for 2011
Hurray! Is the whole family going?

I want to get one of those xyron magnet laminating machine things some of you guys have.

Problem is current location, no Michaels, no newspaper, no coupons. Literally current location is in the middle of nowhere. One stop light and 30 miles to a retail store (i.e. Walmart or McDs).

Ooh, that sounds interesting. Please expand. I wonder if its available in Australia. Is it cheaper than buying magnetic paper?

30 miles to a McDonalds in America! That can't be right...It seems like even the tiniest of tiny town here in Australia has a McDonalds. Jeanne, is this a permanent relocation?

You know, I don't even know which Aladdin it is. I'll just go find one.

We return from Morocco March 27th, and leave for Barcelona on April 20. I'm going to be so tired of flying.

I would love to do the PC cruise with you guys, but we're not cruising again until 2011 in August, when we cruise to celebrate Sadie's high school graduation, on either the Dream or the other new ship.

I finally got two slideshows of our first trip to China together on my blog, which is in our signature. Maybe someday I'll figure out this technology thing.

Panama Canal Cruise is currently booked for just me, dd8, dd9 and dd14 (ages at sailing) but with my family anything can change :)

Yes it's right, no McDonalds (we don't really eat it but miss seeing the golden arches as a mark of civilization). We have a barbeque place and a place for sandwiches but that is it. No movies, no shopping, nothing. Some peanut farms and cattle ranches. Very rural but very nice and friendly.

The Xyron 900 cool laminator looks interesting there are some posts about it somewhere but looks to be better and cheaper than the magnet paper I have used. Lynne provided me some more info on it via private message so I'm gonna order one. All I know is if the graphics experts are using it, I want one too :)

Can't wait to look at your slideshows!

IMHO - It is much better then magnetic paper. The magnet itself is much stronger, it won't ruin your printer bc you use your own paper and you the print quality is so much better! The machine is great too because it can be used for more then just magnets! :thumbsup2

NOTE ON XYRON
When you first start a new cartridge of the magnet roll...roll a little bit out on either a test paper or just on its own (with no paper loaded). Sometimes it takes an inch or two for the laminate and the magnet to line up perfect. It is not a big deal, I am just a perfectionist, LOL

Thanks for that piece of advice - I want everything lined up perfectly.

Mine arrived today (Wed). That was pretty fast shipping, since I used std delivery and ordered it Saturday.

[I bought from stickermaker.com - this is not a recommendation for a business - I have no vested interest in this company (disclaimer, since we are not supposed to put business stuff on the boards)]

Oh no, no craft stores within reach; i don't think i could survive very long. :rotfl::rotfl: I just went to my local scrapbook store today and scored some major Bunko paper for a layout of sorts. OR trying to come up with another idea..........Also found some stickers of Rome attractions that I know I will be seeing.:cool1:

It's taking some getting used to, mapquested a Michaels 40 miles from here so maybe a road trip is in order :) I like to scrap too, but lately been more on a sewing kick. Glad you found some vaca scrapping stuff!

On a positive note, nowhere to shop means more money for vacation souvenirs and excursions :cool1:

For the xyron experts, when looking at pictures of these things is there a newer model and an older one or are both the same?

There is really no difference in the new one to the old. I think they just updated the look. I have had mine for a few years and it take the same cartridges at the new one. I think the trimming bar may be a little bit different but I don't notice. So either one you can find will have the same result. :thumbsup2

Here is a page that I merged information on. I kept having to go back and forth between DCL website or my confirmations so I thought it was easier to have it all in one place.

That BTB itinerary sure does look nice!

Just quickly dropping in to wish everyone a Happy New Year!

POLL IS OPEN for voting on the 11-Night Med cruise.

You can vote for up to 3 of your favorite logos. That'll help narrow selection; if necessary, we'll vote among the top 2-3 favorites.

The program only allows one voting session per screen.

Someone on the EB TA came up with this idea; I put it in the voting for that cruise, but I thought it was a fun idea, so I included it in our poll.

Happy New Year everyone!!

Well, my DH has decided that he does not want to dress for formal night on this cruise. Due to his position we have to attend formal affairs more often than we would like and he wants to be casual and relaxed on this vacation. I talked him into it for our November cruise, but he is not going for it in April.

DH thought we would try the Topsider buffet that night. I enjoyed the Golden Mickeys but I do not want to attend if we are not dressed in formal attire. I thought I would ask if there are any others who have not dressed for a formal night and how they felt about their decision?

You can attend the shows dressed or not. One cruise we did main dining so we changed before the show. Since then we have done late dining and DD's have always been dressed for the shows but I usually am not. I am usually too busy getting them ready!

No need to worry about GOlden Mickeys as it will not be on our cruise! :sad1: Still so frustrated that DCL chose to take away Golden Mickeys and replace it with a Villians show. I know there are those super excited about villians but come on did they really have to take away Golden Mickeys?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

I have seen many people in the dining rooms who do not dress formal on formal night. It is not something that is required. I think it is fine to still go into the dining room if you are not formally dressed. It is your vacation, you get to do whatever you want!!! :thumbsup2

My guess is that your server upon hearing you are going to skip and go to Topsiders will strongly encourage you to come to the dining room anyway!

So much controvery on the dress code, but it is "suggested" attire.

We have seen alot less formal attire on our recent cruises and DH said for 7 night cruises he will no longer do a tux as there just aren't very many of them being worn. He hasn't even brought a jacket last two times. If he were going on a longer cruise he would rent the tux for convenience of not packing.

I wonder if with so many long port days and excursions there will be increased numbers of people in cruise casual clothing in the dining rooms with just getting back and being tired, etc.

Thanks for all of the replies. Wow, I have been looking forward to seeing the Villians Tonight show, but I didn't know that they were replacing the Golden Mickeys. Bummer.

That's a really good point about the long port days, maybe some people will just be too tired to worry about dressing up.

Well we had a great start to the new year. My daughter woke up at 2am vomiting, my father-in-law developed a DVT and hubby worked all New Years Eve. The worst thing though is that the Sydney cricket test match is currently washed out...LOL!

We're planning to take formal gear with us, although I don't if hubby will bring a tux or just a suit. Its nice to know that it will be more relaxed with dress codes so that if we don't feel like changing into our formal attire after a busy day at port, we won't look so out of place.

We're trying to organise all our belongings (ie throwing stuff out!) so our house doesn't always look like the site of a bomb explosion. Can't believe how much "stuff" we have.
