Up early to get ready for debarking. Our continental breakfast arrived. Really like this new perk for concierge. Much easier with kids. After everyone grabbed a bite and one last look off the verandah we headed down to the lobby. DD, Braelynn, ran into her friends and got one last pic with them. Then it was off the boat and down to baggage. DH handled the bags and I watched the kids. After counting the bags, we had 10 for the two rooms, (we do have 10 right? Right!) we were out of customs and in our car by 8:05am. Wow! Time for the 5 hour drive to Hilton Head. Everyone shared their favorite moments and we chatted awhile. Then we each settled in to read or listen to music. BriarPatch got a little fussy so I decided to grab the Fig Newtons I had packed in the black....uh, where is the black duffle? Don't recall it going in the back, must be up top. "Hey,how many bags are up in the carrier?" 4. Is one of them the all black duffle bag? NO. OK, are we stopping for gas soon, I need to check something. You counted 10 bags, right? Yeah." Well, let's sum this up as we did NOT have the black duffle. As bags go, it was the best to forget as it had nothing valuable- except for all of our pictures!
Quick call to DCL got me the Lost and Found Dept. Explained the situation and that we were nearly in Georgia, etc... Called me back 10 minutes later, they had the bag and would UPS it home to me. Very impressive, they made what could have been a bag situation, quite painless. So we continue on. A 5 hour drive became nearly 8 because Georgia was non-stop construction cones. Strange, but I never saw any actual construction- but it sure caused some traffic.
But when we took the turn off for Disney's Hilton Head, we felt like we were "Home". What a lovely resort. I wish we had longer than a night here. Our 2 BR villa was HUGE. Kids and I went straight to the pool. Had some ice cream and talked to some other DVC members. We were told a lot of people had just gotten off the boat that day, but we didn't meet any of them. Too bad.
But we are soooooo coming back! Too lovely.
The drive home would prove to be a battle of wills. My will not to jump out of the car, my will not to lose my mind, you get the idea. We left Hilton Head about noon, stopped to get reading material, and DH bought ear plugs. I kid you not. And he used them.
We arrived home at about 9pm. I now had the posture of a question mark. Grandma loaded up her car and went home. We tucked the kids in bed, it was back to school tomorrow.
I wish we could have done back to back cruises, that is my ultimate goal at some point. We had such a great time. Can't wait to go back. We rebooked the Nov. 19, 2005! Now the wait begins.
Here are some additional thoughts or tips:
You may have noticed that I never made it to the Rainforest Room, I intend to rectify that on my next cruise. Ironic, huh? That was my mantra the entire trip down the coast and then I don't even get there. Oh well, that's why we have to go back!
I am still using my products from the Ionthermie treatment, I do see a change, my skin is much nicer. One tip, do not leave your body brush where kids can find it and get it wet. It is meant to be dry. However if you do find one of your kids playing with it and they won't put it down until you tell them what its for, here's tip two.....just tell them you brush your butt with it...Let me tell you, they can't drop it fast enough! Just make sure there isn't a sink full of water next to them or else see tip one.
We loved the Romantic Escape at Sea package, worth every penny. No ressie rush and nice to have alone time.
Wine Tasting was a lot of fun. Do it!
Palos is NOT to be missed, brunch especially.
Our forgotten bag did arrive just 2 days after we got home! Everything was in it and I got our pics developed. They turned out great!
And if you can meet up with your DIS travel mates, DO IT! Meeting my DIS friends on board was one of the things that made the trip so special. Thank you to the DIS boards and all the DIS members for the great info and stories. Thanks to all my cruise buddies, can't wait to cruise with you again. And thank you to everyone who read my trip reports. I know they were long, but they helped me to relive my Magic-al journey and I hope they made some of you smile.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it!
