Ok, so I realize I cannot make up my mind...
Originally booked a cabin (we are going 1st week of November), but hated that my daughter & son in law had to sleep on the pull out sofa.
then we switched to POR because of the 5th sleeper for my 3 yr old granddaughter. (cannot share a bed with her....she is all over the place! LOL)
Now we're thinking with 4 adults, 2 bathrooms are key! Was thinking AOA suites....but the reviews are so-so
We are staying 7 nights w/ 4 day passes, we want to have some down/pool time for the baby.

Would love to stay at a 1 bdrm at AK, but no luck on the DVR board :( ...

so, tell me your thoughts....should we stay put at POR, go with AOA suites or maybe do 2 adjoining rooms?

Seems like over the weekend/to today more rooms opened up???

I would go with two normal rooms at a Moderate resort. If I'm son-in-law, I do not want to share a single hotel room with grandma and grandpa, no matter how polite I'm pretending to be about it.

Five years ago, I would have said Port Orleans Riverside or French Quarter are easily the two best, but with the Skyliner addition at Caribbean Beach, that one gets the edge for me right now. Being on the Skyliner hub is absolutely fantastic. The rooms themselves aren't in the freshest condition, but the common areas of the resort are looking beautiful, and the pool is great.

It's also worth noting that you're currently paying an extra fee to put two extra adults in a moderate room. Stated prices are for a maximum of two adults, and each additional is costing you more per night. Adding a second room isn't going to double your cost, because that extra adult fee will go away.

With 4 adults, I would want real beds, 2 bathrooms and some privacy. You won't get 2 of those in one room at POR so it would be off the table for me.

You will get a small amount of privacy in an AOA family suite but someone's "bedroom" is still going to be everyone's living room.

I would go for two separate rooms and request connecting rooms if you want to have an interior door between the two rooms. Adjoining rooms are near each other but do not necessarily connect.

maybe do 2 adjoining rooms?

Obligatory reminder to make sure you are requesting what you want (either way it is only a request)…

Adjoining = close to each other - across the hall, around the corner, diagonally, next door but no internal door

Connecting = internal door between the 2 rooms

I feel like all of this goes back to like the Unofficial Guide 1996 edition where they gave this advice and it's survived on the Internet ever since.

The room assigners at Disney understand that if someone has never seen this particular advice and requests "adjoining" rooms, that they probably actually want connecting rooms.

I would absolutely find a way to do two separate rooms. 4 adults PLUS a kid in one room is going to get very tight, and you're there for a full week, not just a weekend or a few days. I'm not sure what your best arrangement would be, but I would 100% be looking for a suite or just booking two rooms. My family rents dvc when we go and there are enough of us (several separate households) that we could book a villa, but we always choose to go with entirely separate studios. It's not even about the number of bathrooms or whatever, it's just the ability to have actual space of our own to get away a little bit.

I never read the Unofficial Guide - or any guides.

I *did* however work as a reservations agent in a hotel, and no - we do not assume that if someone says "adjoining" they mean "connecting". A good reservations agent will clarify, but not all will. The bottom line is in the travel industry they do mean different things.

Every pair of connecting rooms are adjoining, but not every pair of adjoining rooms are connecting. Ergo, assume that everyone who says "adjoining" means "connecting" and nobody is disappointed. On the off-chance that somebody ACTUALLY meant "adjoining, but not connecting," they can just keep the interior doors closed. Win-win.

No. It is NOT the same. Some people do not want the door between, even - or especially - if they are traveling with family.

Why would anyone at all care if that door is there if it's closed?

I'd tend to agree, but there are MANY people who insist that they hear so much more with the door there.

We're clearly never going to agree between your opinion and my experience actually working in the travel industry. So you go ahead and keep requesting adjoining when you mean connecting - just don't complain when you're given adjoining - and NOT connecting - rooms sometimes.

I'm not arguing with what your experience is or what's technically correct. I'm telling you that, in real life, Disney room assigners treat the terms "adjoining" and "connecting" as interchangeable. Maybe they shouldn't, and maybe you didn't, but they do.

OP, I would look at 2 POP rooms with the skyliner, because even the AKV 1 Bdrm only comes with 1 real bed, unless they refurbed with the pull down bed.
For our family 1 room would work. I am glad we have no problems with staying in the same room with family. One of our most fun trips was at POP and it was DW, 9 month DD, older sister, 17 year old niece and myself, most people on this board would lose their mind. LOL We knew it was going to be tight but it's all about your attitude. There was sooo many times we all would bust out laughing, like when I knocked my sister onto the bed so I could get to the bathroom first and many more. Not to mention the great and funny discussions we had while laying in bed and talking. We would not have those memories if we were in separate rooms, but again that's just us:)

I would definitely do two rooms. There is no way I’m sharing a room with my in laws for a week. If price is an issue do Pop since you were willing to do AoA.

Two rooms (connecting request) at Pop. If you can swing preferred location, even better. The space is worth it! Of course, if your budget can accommodate 2 rooms at a moderate or deluxe, then that's great too, but 2 Pop rooms would suffice!
