The next/last Star Wars trailer will be released Monday, 10/19 at 8 pm est.

A big moment for the rodent empire is coming soon thereafter.

There's more at stake here than iron man or the avengers...they can't release a transformers/fast and the furious style popcorn flick and get what they are looking for and frankly need in the longterm...

This just in: ESPN still sucks

I noticed Luke Skywalkers' picture is absent from the movie poster. Could this be a sign that Luke has turned to the dark side and is the villain in the mask with the red light saber? Who else would keep Vaders' helmet and state that he would finish what was started be Vader? Yes, I am stretching it quite a bit, but quite a number of years ago I heard and read rumors that Luke would turn in the 3rd trilogy.

Well in the old expanded Universe Luke turned a few times, but the only screen shot we got of Mark Hamill from production was in Jedi robes. The two prevailing rumors are one that Luke is dead or dies off pretty quickly (why did Leia look so sad?) or that he shows up in the last few minutes of this movie to play a bigger part in 8 and 9.

EU is completely rejected...thank god

Only the September released book "aftermath" has been given Disney/lucasfilm backing

That's the elephant in the room.

I haven't been trolling rumors...but came across a few intrigue theories...

1. Luke is the bad guy...
2. Luke's kid/niece/nephew is the bad guy
3. The force "awakens" at the end and the second film is the Luke movie...the first is dominated/showcased by another character...which seems likely at this point

You can probably guess what that could mean...

I also think that the scene in last nights trailer with the lightsaber is important...think about what's going on and try to guess how it could turn out...

Aftermath is the first in a trilogy that is set between Episode 6 and 7, but don't think it's the only accepted cannon. Besides Clone Wars and Rebels which are accepted. They have numerous comic book series (I think we are up to 6-7 now), one which introduced Han's first wife, supposedly. We also have a few books that came out after the "reboot" (Tarkin, New Dawn, Lost Stars, 3 teen books)

No no...all the previous, non- Disney stuff was ruled out by lucasfilm awhile back.

Anything new or in production would be fair game...you're right there

This is correct. Sadly those two crappy shows and those novels belong in the shared universe. I'm actually a little nervous that they're already making it complicated again. They cut off EU to make things simple.

Going down the same path seems stupid.

Are midichlorians ruled out as the defining and unifying force of the entire universe? 'Cause it would be really bad if they weren't.

Nope, since they were in the Prequels they are still officially canon unless something on-screen overturns them.

Or you could do what I do and simply deny the existence of any prequels. Problem solved.

Should be easy to ignore their existence and act as if Obi Wan's and Yoda's descriptions of the force in IV and V are still in effect. My canon's bigger than yours!

I think even the prequels ignored them after that horrible scene where Qui Gon introduced the concept.

LIAM NEESON

George, I'm not sure where this biological thing came from but it completely undermines the idea of the Force as a kind of meditative spirituality. Are you sure that's what you want to go for?

GEORGE LUCAS

Yeah. Just the read the lines and hurry up because we have three more green screens to do before lunch. Remember you have to keep inside these taped marks so we can digitally add Jar-Jar's tongue when you grab it.

LIAM NEESON

I'm a great warrior, a spiritual master and an important diplomat, but I have to grab the giant frog-man's disgusting tongue ... at the dinner table?

GEORGE LUCAS

Yeah. The kids will love it. And ... ACTION !

Lol...well played...as always.

I think if there's ANY reference to "prequel" material...it will be limited to this:

1. Emperor was evil and took over/ruined the Galaxy
2. Vader was once in a lifetime being that failed to control himself...leading to intergalactic suffering
3. Jedi were purged because they were ultimately stupid (thanks, George...for making them ridiculously stupid. Four words: Jedi master sipha dyas)

I highly doubt anything remotely related to those green screen nightmares will be referenced beyond those key points...the entire back story in 30 seconds or less.

You know...it's ironic how sir Alex Guinness...famous for going on bbc and calling Star Wars "rubbish" in 1978...still managed to explain all we ever needed to know about the core religion in three clips: in his hut to Luke (it's an energy field that surrounds us and penetrates us...it binds the universe together), when he appears with Yoda in empire to warn Luke of the dangers of Vader and the choices he was about to make, and when he appears in Jedi after Yoda and explains the ENTIRE prequel story in 30 seconds...1000% better than Lucas did in 7 hours of brutal wooden stories.

...at least Hayden Christiansen will never work again...positive.

I think Abrams will take the "less is best" approach when it comes the force in this movie...a little mystery is a good thing.

What was your problem with Clone Wars? It got off to a weak start, but it got much better as it went along.

I like clone wars a lot...it's far more believable than the dumb prequels...

But the whole EU is pretty awful...clone wars tends to get thrown out with the bath water

Having watched all 6 seasons of Clone Wars and the first season of Rebels, I know where you're coming from. I just honestly don't believe that they should be anywhere near canon. They both are plagued with terrible dialogue, more often then not painful storylines, and movement around the galaxy at too fast a pace.

Take for example the inspiration for the Clone Wars series, the (now non-canon) shorts that aired before episode 3. While obviously cheaply put together, they correctly displayed conflicts that would months to break through. They showed accurate troop counts. They also showed a more diverse set of generals. In clone wars they suffer from a common temptation in TV shows, that Anakin and his group are just in the right place at the right time over and over and over again. That they can resolve a conflict in a matter of hours. That him and his group of like 100 soldiers can liberate an entire planet. In the battle of Kamino, you saw hundreds of thousands of troops move into action. That's what it should be like all the time. That's what Episode 3 battles are like. Clone Wars you have only a handful doing impossible feats.

Now with all my criticisms above, through in a whole ton of mediocre story development and awkward character interaction you get the mess that is Clone Wars. I was distraught when I found out that they were letting Filoni stay on...

This is not to say that Clone Wars doesn't work, it generally does. Does it work for a kids show to have to suspend disbelief? Yes. But should it stand up alongside the likes of a New Hope? Empire Strikes Back? No. I think it's kind of like SW stripped of all the maturity and deeper messages. Kind of like if a super fan (which Filoni is) made a SW TV show, but missed the point about what made SW so great.

I do agree it improved by the end, and I actually did end up wanting some true conclusion for some characters, but for the majority it was just forgettable.

Indeed, and it makes me kind of worried that they're going to return to that direction. They've just released a ton of novels. The barrier of entry is going to be huge. If you want to understand SW you're going to have to have watched 12 movies, 150 kids television episodes, read ten books, read 50 comic books, and who knows what else.

Oh, and visited a SW at Disney Park near you!
