73 million Americans tuned in to watch the Ed Sullivan Show when the Beatles performed All My Loving, Till There Was You, She Loves You, I Saw Her Standing There and I Want To Hold Your Hand, and, as they say, the rest is history.

I was one of the 73 million, then only 19 years old, and looking at them in wonderment, such long hair, such strange clothes, what a weird sound. I 'knew' they would be a passing fancy, our home-grown Fabians, Del Shannons, Bobby Rydells, Paul Ankas, Ronettes, Frankie Avalons and Beach Boys would hold them off, LOL. My, how times have changed, how docile and school-boy like they look today in retrospect. An historical day indeed.

A short video clip

Thanks, Dan. I was a 15 year old madly in love with Paul McCartney!

Let's see............39 years ago... I would have been 17....yikes.. and I was watching too.....

Just this past year, I finally got to see a real live Beatle.. I saw Paul McCartney in concert... you know what, he was incredible.........I could not have been more excited, I felt 17 again..

I remember!!:D My father couldn't believe we (my brother and I) were watching and enjoying them. Kept commenting on their hair!! "Help" was the very first album I bought with my own money.

I well remember that night - never missed Ed Sullivan anyway. I was a 10 year-old Beatles fan. I also saw Paul in concert for the first time last September and got all choked up when he sang the old Beatles songs! (I won the tix & took my DH - but was sad I couldn't take my Dear Sister too, who is 18 months older than me - what Beatles fans we were!)

Same here........I vividly remember my dad commenting about their hair!

1 of the 73 million. :)

I was 6 and I remember it!;) My Mom hated thier Hair! LOL!

I was 10.

Cheesh - was it THAT long ago??!!!!

Soon enough we were all collecting Beatles cards and singing their songs on the playground. :)

Who could forget that? I was glued to the TV....

And shortly thereafter...... in love with John......

I was 4 and I remember it very well. I thought they were ok enough then... but at the time I would rather have seen Topogigio :p :p ;)

The aftermath of that night has affected every day of my life for the past 39 years. Fun fact: Davy Jones of the Monkees was on that same Sullivan show as part of the Broadway cast of Oliver.

LOL!! I was a week from being delivered.

My twin sis and I were only 8 years old at the time, watching them on our old black and white TV with the rabbit ears! And my Dad was also making comments about the hair, and how they'd never last! He never dreamed how big they were about to become!

I was 3 at the time, but I'm sure my 10 year old sister was glued to the TV. She saw them at Shea Stadium when she was 13. :teeth:
