$38.99 in 2007?

Well, if it's only going up $1 then I guess they definitely aren't losing huge amounts of money from people abusing the plan. It will be interesting to see if there's anything in writing giving more specific instructions on what can and can't be done with the dining credits.

or they were losing huge amounts of money from people abusing the plan and Disney can increase revenue/reduce costs by doing things like seperating credits rather than increasing the price.

or the truth is something in the middle.

Or...they've closed the holes to their satisfaction.

That would be helpful...

After just returning from the World, I can say that I thought the TS places we chose had very poor quality food. Most places gave you a special menu to order from with limited choices. After a week, I was really sick of sauteed green bean, mashed potatoes and carrots. Everything on the menus could be purchased in bulk so I am sure that Disney is still making mega-bucks, otherwise they would not be offering this plan! And, if they were really worried about people abusing the plan, they should have designed it to differentiate between child and adult credits. DH and I usually shared a CS because we weren't terribly hungry (after downing water all day!) and our DD and DS would each get one CS. Some days, my DK's shared but rarely. On our last day, we had 9 CS left. We all ate breakfast at Capt. Cooks then went back on the way to the car and got 3 flatbreads and 2 sandwiches to go. I wasn't going to leave any food uneated. We just weren't hungry during the day between breakfast and dinner. It works out differently for everyone, but I don't think that people sit down and plan out how they can screw Disney on the DDP.

Name one TS restaurant that has a special menu for MYW Dining guests?

I'll agree that the food in the buffets, family style and dinner shows isn't much better than your description but that's nothing new. The cost of the ingredients for many of the meals, particularly the character meals, is a fraction of the menu price.

All indications are Disney is in the process of separating adult and child credits because too many guests took advantage of the plan's flexibility.

:confused3 I guess it takes all types... I havent been to WDW in quite a long time, but I remember having lunch at the CP in MK, Dinners at the GG in EPCOT, and CMs at the CR. Never once was I disappointed in the food that was served. I happen to enjoy buffets because they allow me and my family to eat whatever we choose, in whatever amounts we deem appropriate. I tend to eat more beef and chicken than I'd be served as a traditional entree, and also eat more salad. But little else, untill I get to dessert :rolleyes1

There are no separate menus.....We have done the DDP many times and many of those times we dine with our WDW CM friends, our DDE friends and friend with no discounts (yikes) and never did anyone in our group get a different menu from the folks using the DDP to the folks not using the DDP.

The only time you will encounter a "different menu" is if you are using the fantasmic dinner package at the Brown Derby or Mam Melrose's (I think those are the only two that participate in addtion to HV). there you and everyone else who chose the Fantasmic Package will have a limited menu to chose from--so it isn't limited becasue you chose to use DDP it is limited because of the Fantasmic Package.

Whew! That post up there scared me. I know when we were there last Oct. we ordered off the same menu as everyone else. I've never heard of a "special" menu being offered for DDP guests....

I also think some menu choices are limited at Teppanyaki.

I also found out over on the DVC Boards that renters cannot call ME anymore and book the Dining Plan, nor can I check on my reservations-that is a whole other subject.

When I call next week to book my package, I am going ask her if I can extend my dining plan. I'm staying 4 days at POR, then 4 days at BWV. I will be getting my MYW tickets also with the dining plan.

Do you happen to know what or know where a post is stating this? I just did a search and couldn't find it. I am eating @ Teppanyaki my last night there and would hate to be limited. Especially since DH is very picky and it was hard enough trying to get him to agree on Japanese food.
Thanks in advance to anyone with the info ;) :thumbsup2

If everyone did/does this do you still think there's mega bucks to be made?

Or increase the room prices.

The great AP rates are a thing of the past and I would guess that is because of people purchasing just one for their families and using it for a discount as opposed to purchasing APs for everyone for the intended purpose of unlimited admission.

That was as strategy that many promoted on the boards and the result is AP room discounts that are soooo much smaller than they used to be. Call it abuse or not but if discounts are taken advantage of, it only makes sense that WDW will find some way to recoup the lost potential.

Another view of that is that the use of the Magical Express and the Dinning Plan have been successful in increasing occupancy so they don't need to offer as many or as great of AP discounts as they did in the past to achieve the same level of occupancy during slow times.

We ate there on DDP in May, and we found the limitations so minimal I can't remember them! I think they were that you could not add a lobster side to make surf & turf (several restaurants understandably have that limitation), and you couldn't order sushi as an appetizer. If you wanted either, they would be OOP.

I could be wrong, but I think that was it -- certainly nothing to keep you from enjoying a wide range of great choices.

That is a very good point.

However, the AP discounts became much less at least a year or two before the DDP and ME started. :confused3

Yes...
but occupancy was also going up at that time. Occupancy has gone up steadily since traveling picked up again following the down times after 9/11.
