That was the pharmacy's charge for 10, yes 10, nausea tablets for my ds. He has been sick the past couple of days with stomach cramps and nausea. Thank God we have decent insurance and our copay for the medicine was $80. I cant imagine if we had to pay the whole $365 :faint:

Was it Zofran? My mom had to take them during chemo and the price was ridiculous. Luckily on her next round the hospital gave her some samples.

Phenergan is cheap and works really well for nausea.

Deena- That's horrible! I'm so sorry one of your sons is sick :(

Sickening, isn't it!! I just paid $30 for a 3 day supply of a med. Can't imagine without insurance.

Sounds like Zofran. That stuff is insanely expensive! I had to take it every single day of my pregnancy and a 3-month supply ran $4900. Thank God my copay was only $8 for every 3 months, because I basically went thru $10,000 worth of medicine.

It is Zofran. Im not sure why they didnt call in Compazine or Phenergan?? I have had those before and they worked fine.

BAck when my kids were one, they needed RSV shots. Each shot was $4500!

Fortunately I think we only had to pay $25 per shot, but each of my daughters needed 3 shots each. Can you imagine?

That is outrageous!! Even your co-payment seems high to me. People can't even afford to get sick. What if someone did not have the money? What about the people who make too much for government assistance, but live paycheck to paycheck. This is what happens to a lot of the middle clas. It's wrong.

Sorry to hear your son is sick. I hope he is feeling better.

They probably gave you Zofran because it doesn't make you sleepy where Compazine and Phenergan usually knock you out. That, or the doc has stock in whichever money hungry company makes Zofran. I agree, even with insurance, you paid an exhorbrant price. God help the elderly.

Wow that's amazingly high. It must be considered a non prefered drug on your insurance plan. I can't believe the pharmacist didn't suggest a cheaper alternative and call the Dr. I work with someone who is on that and she pays $300 because she's not covered yet by insurance.

I don't want to insult your physician. Maybe there is something going on here I don't know about.
But that is plan silly! I am a nurse married to a physician
Part of being a good doctor is prescribing drugs that are afforable and reasonable for the condition
You are exactly right Phenergan should do fine
When a doc does this kind of thing it raises health care costs for ALL of us

Wow! :earseek: I'm sure glad that we don't have to pay for prescription charges for children. I just picked up 5 different lots of meds for my DD!

BTW what happens if you get sick and you can't afford the prescription charge?

When I hurt my ankle 18 months ago, I had to take a blood thinner for 3 weeks post surgery to prevent clots. Those 21 shots cost a total of $700. Talk about sticker shock.

My wife's migraine medication used to only be available in injectible form and it was $50 a shot. But worth every penny if you ask me. I was glad that there was something available to take away her pain.

Every time I go to the pharmacy, I feel like I am playing Russian roulette with my wallet. :earseek:

Since we retired we don't have prescription insurance. Our meds are upwards of $400 a month and we get them from Canada - except for one which is the same price at Costco. You can't get the Canadian drugs in a hurry though. I did speak to the doctor and he prescribed some of the pills in double strength - the price is the same and the pills can be split in half. That helps a lot. That's perhaps a thought for some of you.

Oh my goodness..that is insane. I hope he feels better soon.
