Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberte is paying $35 million dollars to go to space to raise awareness for water? I was definitely thinking the same thing as John, and wouldn't the money be better spent by donating directly to the charity. I kept thinking how many water filters that would purchase for developing countries, etc. Although, in all fairness I do see that Guy Laliberte is also the founder of the One Drop Foundation. Still... if you want to go to space, go to space, but the tie in to the One Drop Foundation seems to be a bit of a stretch.

I am not sure how much space travel will raise awareness for water. This kind of thing tends to be 15 minutes of fame and then the media moves on. Awareness campaigns need to have more of a public presence. For $35 million you could buy a lot more media coverage.

What a butthead. He wants to go to outer space and is willing to spend $35 million to do it.

If he has the money and wants the experience, I'm all for it. But saying that he's doing it to help the environment...give me a break.

No, wait. I change my mind.

I'm not going to Disney to indulge myself. I'm going to draw awareness to Feline Leukemia!

When I tell people about my upcoming trip, I'll talk about cats. Disney had that Aristocats movie. It's all about helping to save animals!

Yeah, that's the ticket. ::yes::

Bravo, Mr. Butthead.

If I had a bunch of extra money sitting around I would definitely go to space for the experience. I like Charles Simonyi's take on it (he was one of the early Microsoft engineers), he made a billion dollars and plans on spending it before he dies. He went to the international space station twice. NASA uses at least part of the money to fund programs, so it is one way they can make money other than taxing us.

I have no idea how this will raise awareness for anything other than space tourism though.

I want to go on a space trip. I find out it's $35 million to go. Mmmmmmmmm, I have a charity, but it has nothing to do with space travel, what to do? I know! I'll say I'm going to bring awareness to it! Yea, that's the ticket! $35 million tax write off.

I have decided to start my own charity. I'm calling it Give Kids a Slap!!

Parents with children who act out at Disney can call me and I will come and slap your child for a small fee. All proceeds to go me which I will use to go to the moon and raise awareness for child slapping.

<Disclaimer - this is just a joke. Please don't write to me that slapping kids is wrong or that it's not a real charity if I keep the money. Please also don't send me any money or really call me if you have a child you need slapped. While I would love to help I would get into big trouble. Please also don't write to me telling me that D23 is just as good as slapping your child and everyone should join>

Darn! Until I got to the disclaimer, I was going to hire you for my 15 year old. You would be well on your way to the moon.

I would totally go into space if I had a bunch of extra money sitting around too. Maybe I would send my father up first though. It just seems so self-righteous though to say your doing it to raise-awareness for charity. (I know you weren't really argueing that point Frank.)

If I had a spare $35 million sitting around I would want to go into space. I don't think that will ever happen though.

I would love to take pictures in outer space.

How many DU trips would you have to book to make $35 million in commissions. I'm betting at least like, what, 100?

I think I might like going into space. But I am sure I will neer have enough money.

I will have to satisfy myself with Space Mountain, Mission Space and Star Wars.

And would love to look at Kathy's photos from space!

As I havent been to Paris yet.....I'm going there first.

And then England.

Then Germany.

The Japan.

Then China

Then Italy again.

Then Scandanavia

Ok....I can come up with a bazillion places I'd rather go than into space.

I am with you, though my order would be different. However, I think if you are in the financial position to contemplate going to space you would have already been anywhere you want on Earth.

If you are scraping together $35 million for a space trip perhaps a rethink of priorities is needed.

What is the Carbon Footprint for a trip into space?

Save the Water, Trash the ozone layer!!

Somethin' about that just don't seem right!

I was thinking the perfect solution for my 12 year old. We are at the stage of attitude included no tip necessary.

When this first came out in the media here in Canada he said he was going up there to tickle the astronauts in their sleep and give them all clown noses. Not one word of raising awareness. I suspect he's now back peddling so he doesn't look like such an.....insert filtered out word here.

Just another case of how some people have more money then brains........
