Yes, we would still go without a discount code. Already have POR booked for 8 nights in Aug. and then 5 nights at AKL at rack rates. Hoping for a code, if not we are still going already have the money saved for the resorts. Can't wait.

We wouldn't go if we couldn't stay at a WDW resort. While we stay at the more expensive resorts on occasion, our favorite times are always at the CBR. We stayed there for several years befoe we even found out about the discounts!!! I wrote to Disney years ago and asked them to consider letting their guests earn points for staying at their resorts and now they are going to do it. I plan to earn a whole bunch of them in the years to come. We have never had a bad experience at any of the Disney resorts and I am often astounded to read some of the complaints folks post. But everyone I know that has stayed off site after staying at a Disney resort regrets it.

I would go to Disney even if I have to stay off site. I enjoy the parks to much to sit and say I can only go if it were onsite. I didn't know about codes until last year when I opened my travel section of the paper. I had already booked CBR at rack rates. What the code did enable me to do was to stay for a 10 day trip instead of a shorter time. This year it is the WL for 12. I wouldn't be able to do that without the codes.

I wouldn't stay onsite if there wasn't a discount code. I simply don't believe in paying $120 a night for the PO resort. Its not worth it to me. I am lucky if I am in the room or enjoying the theming at the resort for 8 hours a day. I spend most of mine time in the parks, eating, running around Orlando, shopping, etc. The hotel room is just a necessity. I have stayed offsite more than on and mainly for the above reason. We did an extended stay back in Dec. and I bid for an offsite on priceline. I got a nice hotel with plenty of amenities which was 1 mile from AK with a back access road to the property. I preferred this hotel to the Disney moderate as I did have more amenities (nice size refrig, coffee maker, iron/iboard, hair dryer, plenty of bath&body works products, safe) and the hotel had 2 pools (heated) hot tub, tennis court and basketball court. What I saved allowed me to eat better meals (LeCellier, GG, LTT, TTS, RFC and some dinner shows) in all the parks and DTD instead of junk food for the entire length of stay. Disney still got my money both ways but at least I got better food. Next stay, will be for just a few days which I will probably stay in a DVC just to experience it once. Of course, it will be back to really bad overly priced junk food. Its sad to pay $ for what they charge for McDonalds fries.

No, I wouldn't. No matter how wonderfully themed the rooms are and how much I love being at WDW, the place is over priced. I would be staying at the places like the Hawthorne Suites etc. I can't see paying over 200.00 to stay any where that isn't a suite.

That is a tough call. I live in south FL, where tourism (as in all of FL) is it!!!! I don't see the discounts going away any time soon. Obviously people are still getting rooms and not having to compete for them by booking a year out. I was able to get a room at CSR for a Saturday night (1 week before) for the FL Resident rate and not have to do a minimum of nights (as was advertised). The resort did not seem full at all! It was soooo quiet around our section and the Ranchos was like a ghost town!

I would probably still on onsite, but since we have a car when we are there, it really doesn't matter that much. The Country Inn and suites at Calypso Cay is real close (3 minutes by car) and has a lot of amenities. I woudl like to try it one day.

What about the fact that Pop Century is sitting there empty? How does that factor in?

Being a DVC member, if the discounts went away, it wouldn't affect me too much, although I do book a short trip or two a year using either a code, or an AP discount, in order to save DVC points. That being said, if I didn't own DVC or there weren't any codes, I would still stay on property, I just wouldn't go as often, like we use to do pre 1998. Years ago, when I first was introduced to WDW by my Disney-loving uncle, who had been 14 times between 1971-1985, by himself, always staying at the Poly at rack rates, you had to book your ressie between one and two years out, as you COULD NOT get a room sooner than that. Remember, initially there were only two resorts, and then just a few more after that in the following years. Although, if the ONLY way I could go to Disney was to stay off-site, then I definitely would.

I have been going since 92, and I have always managed to find some sort of discount since my stay at the beach club.

If you were to have asked me this questions 6 years ago I would have told you I would pay rack to stay at Disney Resort because Disney is the best.

After going there 2 times last year, It is in my honest opinion that the magic is not as strong as it used to be.

With that said I would not pay rack rates to stay on-site.
As a matter of fact my husband was so fed up when we went for xmas in 02' that he said we could not stay on-site the next time we go.

1. cbr - they were refurbishing - we were the only people in the building. All the bldgs around us were covered in blue plastic. Wet paint all arround. Unknowingly we walked on a sidewalk with wet paint and tracked it all over. We asked for another room. No other rooms available. (by the way we always make our reservations 9 months in advance).
2. csr - just did not like the layout or the food court - ate there one meal. Service was not up to what we feel Disney should be.
3. cbr - as always paid in advance - Dis changed us to pos riverside - changed the date on us and we had a hard time getting it change to coinside with our airline res. - finally corrected - checked in. Clerk needed our credit card-even though we were prepaid. Ran it through and took a $1000 authorization on our cc and then told us we had already checked in. She had applied our cc to someone else. In order to get a reversal of the cc authorization we had to get a supervisor - who then checked us in. We had a great corner room. Next day the cheerleaders checked in. We had them over us, and beside us. They were cheering in the room @ midnight - where were the chaperones? At 2 am they were outside our room banging on the windows and they would run and hide. Where were the chaperones? We asked the desk why we were not notified that we would be in the middle of cheerleaders 11-14 years old. There reply - not there problem - it was the problem of Disney Club because we booked through them.

This will be our last trip for a while. We are plannig on having another baby next year.

I doubt we could go if it wasn't for the discounts. We have three children and stayed at the WL this past February. It was great. We are currently booked at POR for next Feb. and I am hoping for a great code later this fall. Staying off site was a possibility before we stayed at WL. With three small kids, I really don't think it would be worth the extra hassle. However, once the kids are older and we no longer need a stroller/diaper bag etc., I do believe that off site will be a possiblity for us. Just my two cents.

We would go back to making one trip every calendar year for an eight day trip. Instead of doing two trips within a rolling twelve month period totaling 15 to 16days.

I've been to WDW 15 times in the past 9 years (7 were DVC) and never once paid full price. I wonder how many people pay full price? On my first trips before DVC, I got 20% Magic Kingdom Club. Last year, I got a 40% off Boardwalk Inn AP rate. Once nice thing about DVC is you don't have to play the discount game, unless you addon weekend nights with cash, which I'm doing in May. Right now I've got Friday & Saturday at OKW with 25% DVC member discount but I hoping for more if AP rates come out.

Unfortunatley for us, we did pay rack rate with no discounts of any kind on our first trip to WDW with the kids. It makes me cringe just to think about what we spent Thank goodness my neighbors told me about the DIS, Mousesavers etc. Now instead of going once every 2 years for a week, we can afford to go every year. Thanks to our AP's and the discounts, this year we our making 2 trips to the world

While I love the theming at all the Disney resorts, I would probably be forced to stay off-site without the discounts. As it is we're waiting for codes to come out for our Aug stay at WL. Without it we wouldn't be able to afford it. I have stayed at POR twice and loved it, but I'm not so sure that it is worth the exhorbitant rates that we pay, compared to off-site hotels. Even with the lower rate of $120 a night, it's still at least twice what some off-site places charge. Yes, the Disney transportation system is nice. But, it really is almost worthless if you are traveling from resort to resort. So a car makes those treks easier. And if you have to rent a car anyway, why not just stay off-site to begin with. Just me humble opinion.

We'd still go, just not as often. We'd probably stay in a value resort or even offsite. Part of the decision would also be based on how well the economy is doing.

I would probably stay offsite rather than pay the astronomical prices without discounts. I didn't care for the Allstars so it's the moderates for us unless we stay offsite which we do every other trip or so. We've stayed offsite in some really nice places for very little thanks to Priceline and Expedia. It's a bit of a hassle to deal with driving every day but it's also nice to be able to see other parts of Florida too.

I doubt I would stay on-site and pay rack rates. The rooms just aren't worth it.

We paid $286 to stay at the Polynesian Concierge Lagoon-view last year. Rack rates for that room this year are $470 - $675 a night. (depending on season) There is no way IMO the rooms are worth that much money!

We have a set amount of money we spend on vacations and we vacation for as many days as DH can take off of work. I would never shorten my vacation just to afford to stay on-site, nor would I extend my budget just to stay on-site.

Probably not. We stayed concierge on the last visit, and for us that is the way to go. Many offsite deluxe hotels have concierge service for a fraction of the cost. The discounts make the resorts 20% higher, instead of 80% higher or so.
