On the advice of many, last year we took 301 to avoid 95 in DC area and it worked out well. We sailed through.

This year, it was a nightmare. Tons of construction and congestion. We arrived in Richmond Hill, GA an hour later than last year's time (we use our GPS to track actual driving time, so it was not a question of making more or longer stops).

We stuck with 95 for the return trip and made much better time.

Having grown up in that area...I would never switch 95 for 301.. traffic will almost always travel faster on 95 vs 301....

After the Delaware Memorial Bridge. Worst of it was through Maryland.

We prefer 301 in MD from US 50 south to the Potomac River Bridge. For us it sure beats the Washington Beltway & the Springfield mixing bowl. We pick up I95 just north of Kings Dominion north of Richmond.

Maryland is where we had all the trouble. We picked up 95 again just north of King's Dominion too.

We're in Annapolis, MD and we always use 301 instead of the Washington beltway. There are lots of lights on 301 but we'd rather go that way and avoid the mixing bowl.

We have used 301 from the Delaware Memoral Bridge thru to Annapolis Bridge then on to Rt50 to the Beltway, never had trouble this way. We did take 301 once to Richmond this was very slow with a lot of lights, will not take this route again!
